The methodologies for achieving these goals include: immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, FISH, PCR in situ hybridization, and RT in situ PCR.

The author of this PCR ISH website, Gerard Nuovo, MD, is recognized as the pioneer in the in situ PCR methodology. His textbook: PCR in situ Hybridization: Protocols and Applications, 1997, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Press, is now in its 3rd edition.

Dr. Nuovo owns a patent for his work with PCR in situ (patent #5,538,871 - issued 6/23/96).
