Judy's Logic Problems

February's Young People's LP#1 - At the Candy Shoppe

Recently, four neighborhood children visited the Candy Shoppe at the corner store and bought some candy. Each child bought a different number of pieces (6, 7, 10, or 12) of candy. No child bought the same kind of candy - cinnamon, peppermint, root beer, or tootsie rolls. From the clues, determine each child’s first name (one girl is named Breanne and one boy is named Wesley), each child’s last name, and the kind of candy and number of pieces of each kind of candy each child bought.

1. The Losew child (who isn’t Denise) got twice as many pieces of candy as did Jason.

2. The child surnamed Oswald bought some pieces of root beer flavored candy.

3. Denise isn’t the child surnamed Van Pelt nor the child who bought the pepperminit flavored candy.

4. The child surnamed Nannei purchased exactly three more pieces of candy than did the girl who bought some cinnamon flavored candy.

February's Young People's LP#2 - A Guy Named Joe

Recently, Amber invited four friends over in the hopes that one would catch her brother’s eye. Amber had asked each one to be there at 2:00 PM, and each arrived at a different time - 10 minutes early, 5 minutes early, 5 minutes late, or 10 minutes late. Upon each friends’ arrival, Amber introduced her friend to her brother, Joe. Much to her chargrin, each friend immediately recounted how she had just recently met a guy named Joe at a different place - book store, bowling alley, minature golf course, or the park. Each of the “Joe’s” each girl met was tall and handsome (of course!), and each had a different hair color - black, blonde, brown, or red.

As it ended up, after all four friends had arrived, a stunning chick in a red Mazda drove up and Amber’s brother jumped into the car, waved bye to all, and took off for the beach! From the clues, determine when each of Amber’s friends arrived, the place where each friend had met a guy named Joe, and the color of hair of each of the guys named Joe.

1. Amber’s four friends are Barb, the girl who met a guy named Joe who had black hair, the girl who met a guy named Joe at the miniature golf course, and the girl who arrived at 2:05 PM.

2. The girl who met a guy named Joe while jogging in the park and the girl who met a guy named Joe who has red hair didn’t arrive consecutively.

3. Diane arrived at five minutes before two o’clock.

4. Three of Ambers friends to arrive consecutively, from first to last, were Carla, the friend who met a guy named Joe at the bowling alley, and the friend who met a guy named Joe who has blonde hair.

5. Ellie isn’t the girl who met a guy named Joe at the book store.

February's Young People's LP#3 - In Days of Old

In days of old, each of four young adventurers (Gustave, Joachim, Roderick, and Valdemar) saved the life of a different maiden (Apollina, Grendel, Leilana, and Natasha) by a different method by slaying a fierce dragon. The four dragons were a different color - blue, green, red, or yellow, and no adventure used the same method to slay the dragon who threatened the maiden in each circumstance (one adventurere used a magic sword). From the clues, determine each adventurers name, the name of the maiden he saved, the color of the dragon which threatened each maiden, and the mens by which each dragon was dispatched into obliviation.

1. Either Valdemar or Joachim saved the life of the maiden Grendel from the blue dragon. Neither man used the golden lance.

2. Natasha was saved from a fire-breathing red dragon.

3. Gustave isn’t the young hero who slew the green dragon (who wasn’t slain by the golden lance).

4. It wasn’t the maiden Leilana whom was saved by a poisoned apple (which wasn’t the means by which Joachim saved one maiden from the horrid dragon she faced.

5. Neither Roderick nor Gustave was the man who used a mysterious chant to make the yellow dragon he faced simply disappear.

6. Apollina wasn’t the maiden saved by the young adventurer named Roderick.

From the clues, determine the time of each patients’ appointment, the dentist he or she had an appointment with, and the work each was having done (one patient was having his or her teeth cleaned).
