June's Young People's LP#1 - Mountain Survival

Mountain Survival was a mini series on the local PBS channel and covered a five week span, from Thursday, April 24th to Thursday, May 29th. The show is about six boy scouts who spend five weeks in the mountains alone except for a Thursday of each week (the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th of May) when a counselor arrives to see how Austin and the other five boys are doing. At that time, one boy was to be voted out of the show - or that was how it was suppose to be. However, it appears with one thing and another, each week a different boy voted himself out of the survival series. At the end, only Aaron Rhoades was left and walked away with the $5,000 prize! Can you determine the date each month that each of the other five boys voted themselves out of the series, his first and last name (one surname is Warnken), and each boys reason for doing so?

1. Ryan voted himself out of the show the Thursday immediately following the week that Tristan Caldwell voted himself out.

2. The boy who encountered poison ivy with dreadful results voted himself out of the series sometime earlier in the week than did Cody, who left the series after developing some huge blisters on his feet and was barely able to walk.

3. The boy surnamed Canning didn't vote himself out on May 29th, but he left the group sometime after the Hawkinson boy..

4. Anthony isn't the boy surnamed Martinez, who left the series on his own on Thursday, May 15th.

5. The boy is terrified of snakes and found a small garter snake wrapped up in his sleeping bag voted himself out of the series sometime before the Hawkinson boy, who broke out in a rash from chigger bites.

6. On May 29th, with just two boys left, the one who voted himself out had to do so due to an unexpected encounter with a skunk!

June's Young People's LP#2 - Child Stars

Recently, four siblings surnamed Crosse appeared as guest on the Davey Latterman show. Each child, including two boys - Boyd and Tyler, and two girls - Glynis and Monica, had started out making commercials and in the past year each had appeared in a new box office hit movie, one of which was the newest sci-fi thriller, Is Anyone There?. Their parents are, naturally, very proud of all four of them! From the clues, determine each child's age (no child is less than 5 years old or older than 15 years old), the type of commercial each child appeared in (one was a credit card commercial), and the movie each played a major part in and which has made him or her a child star!

1. The four children are Boyd, the ten-year old, the child who first appeared in a commercial advertising tennis shoes, and the child who appeared in the new adventure movie Climb Every Mountain .

2. Tyler Crosse is eight years older than his sister or brother who appeared in the new drama movie, Secret Admirer.

3. The child who appeared in a cereal commercial is eight-years old, exactly two years older than his or her sibling, Monica.

4. The difference in ages between the child who appeared in a commercial advertising a popular amusement park and the child who had a part in the comedy Now You See Me, Now You Don't is more than five years.

June's Young People's LP#3 - Breakfast of Champions

The Champion sisters lead rather hectic lives but try and get together at least once a month at their favorite restaurant to catch up on news and get their breakfast just the way they like it and have since they were children growing up in the neighborhood. When they entered the restaurant all the waitress asked is if they’d like their usual, and Vicky and her four sisters all laughingly called out, “Yes!” From the clues determine how each woman likes her eggs fixed, the type of meat each likes (one sister prefers link sausage), and the kind of juice each enjoys the most.

1. Lisa always orders steak and eggs, but her favorite juice is neither apple juice nor grapefruit juice.

2. One sister, but not Irene, always orders her favorite breakfast which is crispy bacon strips, poached eggs, and orange juice.

3. The Champion sister whose favorite juice is grapefruit juice doesn’t like her eggs over medium or scrambled.

4. Dawn likes her eggs sunny side up, but not accompanied by ham or Canadian bacon.

5. Rosie (who isn’t the sister who orders Canadian bacon and grape juice) always orders her eggs over medium.

6. The sister who prefers pineapple juice with her breakfast isn’t the one who likes her eggs scrambled.

7. The Champion sister who likes her eggs over easy doesn’t drink grapefruit juice.

June's Young People's LP#4 - Double Scoops

After the game Friday night, six friends stopped at The Scoop Stoop for some ice cream. Although they usually order the usual - either chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry ice cream, they decided that evening to try a couple different flavors. Each had two scoops of ice cream, and no person had two scoops of the same kind of ice cream - Black Walnut, Butter Brickle, Pistachio, or Rocky Road. In fact, no two people ordered the same two scoops of the same two types of ice cream! From the clues determine the two types of ice cream each individual selected.

1. Rachael didn’t have a scoop of Butter Brickle ice cream.

2. Between Stan and Tonya, only one of them decided on a scoop of Black Walnut ice cream.

3. Quinton didn’t have a scoop of Black Walnut ice cream.

4. Trixie and Rachel either both ordered a scoop of Pistachio ice cream or neither of them did.

5. After getting their orders, Tonya and Paul found that they had ordered all four flavors between them, as did Rachael and one other individual.

6. Between Stan and Rachael, either they both ordered a scoop of Rocky Road ice cream, or else neither one of them did.

7. Between Trixie and Quinton, only one of them decided on a scoop of Butter Brickle ice cream.
