Judy's Logic Problems

March's Young People's LP#1 - Pajama Party

Recently, Amber had four friends over for a sleep over. Each child, including Lily, wore a pair of pajamas with a different design - checks, plaid, polk-a-dots, or stripes. In the wee hours when they finally fell asleep, each girl was curled up with her favorite stuffed animals she had brought along - a monkey, puppy, teddy bear, or tiger. From the clues, determine each child’s first name, last name (one is Yingling), pajama design, and stuffed animal.

1. The child whose pajamas had stripes wasn’t the child whose favorite stuffed animal was a puppy.

2. The teddy bear was the stuffed animal brought by the child surnamed Obi, whose pajamas had checks.

3. Diane isn’t the child who wore pajamas with stripes.

4. Esther (whose surname is either Obi or Reddy) wore plaid pajamas.

5. Neither Diane or Bianca (whose surname isn’t Mansfield) is the girl who wore the polk-a-dot pajamas and slept with her stuffed monkey.

March's Young People's LP#2 - The Snip-N-Clip Salon

This morning, bright and early, the first four customers who had 8:00 AM appointments arrived at the Clip & Snip Salon and were given over to the care of one of the salon’s cosmetologists (two of whom are females - Debbie and Tasha, and two of whom are males - Edward and Von). Each woman, including Ms. Caldwell, was there for a different purpose - a cut and style, highlighting, manicure, or permanent. During the various conversations which went on between each woman and her stylist or manicurist, each revealed that she was getting ready to attend a different function (one was a graduation). From the clues, determine the name of each woman, which employee was assigned to each woman, what each woman was having done that day, and the occasion for the visit to the salon.

1. Debbie isn’t the one who was assigned the woman who was planning on attending a retirement dinner.

2. One of the males gave a permanent to the woman who was planning on attending a wedding.

3. One woman got her hair cut and style under the capable hands of Von.

4. Ms. Stucky (who wasn’t assigned to Tasha) and her husband had restaurant reservations later that day to celebrate their anniversary.

5. Ms. Cutting, who was assigned to Debbie, was not the woman who was getting her hair highlighted.

6. Tasha was surprised at the generosity of the tip she received from her client, who wasn’t Ms. Rhoades.

March's Young People's LP#3 - An Heir is Born

Old King Fadinkydust of Mensah, a somewhat short, fat, and grumpy man, married the young and beautiful Marybella of Yipple in the year 1965. It was love at first sight for both of them, which amazed the people of both Mensah and Yipple! Over the next few years five beautiful daughters were born to this unlikely marriage - Arabella, Bellanca, Caribella, Donabella, and Ebellina, in that order. Each of the royal Princesses were said to have inherited one of their mother’s wonderful qualities - compassion, good humor, grace, patience, and poise.

One day the king broached the subject of a male heir to his wife, and reluctantly she agreed to giving it one more try. The longed for son was finally born to the marriage, and the only thing remaining was to give their new son a name. Each daughter thought that perhaps their little brother should be named after one of the famous Kings of England they had read about - Charles, Edward, George, Henry, or Richard. As it turned out, the good Queen said that it was only right that their only son should be named after his father, so the future king was named Fadinkydust, much to the dismay of his siblings, who ended up calling his Dusty!

From the clues, determine, the quality each daughter had inherited from her mother, and the name each wanted to have their parents name their new little brother.

1. The first born daughter wanted to name the child George.

2. The middle daughter is the one who inherited her mother’s good humor.

3. The daughter who inherited her mother’s poise was born sometime before Donabella.

4. The daughter who liked the name Richard for her new little brother was born right after the daughter who inherited her mother’s compassion.

5. The daughter who liked the name Edward (who was not Donabella) was older that the child who inherited her mother’s grace.

6. Caribella did not put forth the name Henry or Edward for her new sibling.

7. Arabella wasn’t the daughter who inherited her mother’s poise.
