May's Young People's LP#3 - Sack Lunch Exchange

Students of Mr. Bread’s Art IA class meet just before lunch. Last Friday, an outing was planned so that students could do sketches of nature at a nearby park. Each student brought a sack lunch to eat so that the class wouldn’t have to be cut short in order for the class to return to school in time for a full lunch hour. Melissa and four other students had brought along lunches packed by their mothers, and after some discussion, decided to exchange sandwiches. From the clues, determine each child’s first name, the type of sandwich packed by his or her mother, and the sandwich each ended up having for lunch.

1. The child whose mother had packed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich did not end up eating the tuna salad sandwich.

2. Susan ended up with the deviled ham sandwich brought by Tristan.

3. It wasn’t Holly who exchanged the roast beef sandwich for the ham and cheese sandwich.

4. Corky’s mom had packed him a ham and cheese sandwich, which he was happy to exchange for another one as he’d had a ham and cheese for a late night snack the evening before.

May's Young People's LP#4 - Mary Ann's Make Over

Mary Ann has her own beauty salon and has had for many, many years, but she’d never before had four customers in one day whose first names were also Mary Ann. However, their first names were all they had in common. Each customer had hair of a different color - auburn, black, blonde, or red, and each woman came in for a different reason - for a hair cut, to get her hair highlighted, for a permanent, or for a set and style. While there, each woman also had a manicure, each choosing a different shade of nail polish - Peach Pearl, Plum Purple, Rich Raspberry, or Strawberry Red. From the clues determine the color of each customer’s hair and what each woman wanted done to it, and the color of nail polish selected by each customer during her manicure.

1. Neither the woman with auburn hair nor the woman who got a permanent (who both have special plans to celebrate occasions with their husbands) chose the Plum Purple nail polish when they had their manicures.

2. The woman who made an appointment to her hair highlighted is either the woman who got chose the Strawberry Red nail polish or the woman who chose the Rich Raspberry nail polish.

3. The woman who selected the Rich Raspberry colored nail polish isn’t the woman who made an appointment to get a permanent.

4. Neither the woman with auburn hair nor the woman with blonde (who didn’t select Strawberry Red nail polish) are scheduled to get their hair cut.

5. Neither the woman with black hair nor the blonde is the woman who finally decided on the Plum Purple nail polish during their manicures.

6. The blonde, who just got engaged, isn’t the woman who chose the Rich Raspberry nail polish.
