Recently, four amateur astronomers had an overnight sleep over on a hill near one of their homes. It was a night where there wasn’t the a full moon and the stars in the sky shone brilliantly. Each individual had his own telescope and each wanted to not only find some particular stars or constellations, but each wanted particularly to find the constellation named for the sign under which each was born - Cancer, Leo, Libra, or Virgo. May was a perfect month to find all four constellations in the heavens.
From the clues, determine each boys name, the sign under which he was born, and the type of telescope each used to locate that constellation in the heavens. Note: The magnification of the telescope is not necessary to solve the problem, but was added for additional information in case someone wanted to look up some facts on telescopes and that info might be of help. Also, all four Zodiac signs are indeed visible during the month of May. Just some educational add-on. :-)
1. The person who used the collapsible telescope (with up to 40 times magnification) isn’t the one who is a Leo.
2. Mickey is a Libra, but Dorian isn’t a Virgo.
3. Val isn’t the one who used either the collapsible telescope or the Vari-powered telescope (which has up to 60 times magnification).
4. The individual who used the Three-inch Reflecting telescope, which has up to 60 times magnification, is a Cancer.
5. Alex uses a Three-inch Refractor telescope (which has up to 190 times magnification of the heavens).

A while back, the Amanta’s cat, Midnight, gave birth to five little kittens. Each was all black except for one spot of white on a different part of each kitten’s body - middle of chest, front right paw, tip of left ear, tip of tail, and on its tummy. The kittens were now weaned and it was time for them to go to new homes. Each kitten had already been lucky enough to get a new home - one with a checker at the supermarket, one with a friend from school, one with a neighbor, one with the postal carrier, and one with an uncle who had been thinking of getting a pet for a companion. From the clues, determine the day of the week (Tuesday through Saturday) each kitten went to live in its new home and the person who adopted each kitten.
1. It wasn’t on Saturday that the kitten with the white on its front paw went to live in its new home.
2. The kitten with the white on its chest went to its new home exactly two days earlier in the week than the day the kitten with the white on the tip of its tail went to its new home.
3. The kitten who had a white mark on its tummy went to live with its new adopted family exactly two days earlier in the week than the kitten who was given a home by a checker at the local supermarket.
4. On Thursday, Mr. Amanta’s uncle came to visit and that same day took home his new companion.
5. The kitten with the white on the tip of its left ear isn’t the kitten who was adopted by the family’s postal carrier.
6. The kitten with the white on its front right paw went to live with its new owner exactly three days later in the week than the kitten who was given a friend at school of one of the Amanta's children.

The year is 2076 and colonies have been established on several of our solar system’s planets - Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and Venus. Last year, four ships left earth, each in a different month - March, May, July, or September. Each ship lifted off from a different launching site on a different continent on Earth (one of which is Australia) to take cargo and other important supplies to one of the colonies. Each ship was under the command of a different captain, one of whom is Captain Mitchell. From the clues, determine the month that each captain lifted off in his ship, the destination of each ship, and the location of the launching site.
1. Captain Jehrie isn’t the one who captain the ship that traveled to Jupiter.
2. The destination of the ship which launched from Africa occurred two months later in the year than the ship which launched from America, but two months earlier in the year than the ship under the command of Captain Heingart.
3. Neither the first nor the last launching last year was to take supplies and other cargo to Saturn.
4. The ship whose destination was Venus wasn’t the ship who left Earth in September.
5. Asia was the launching location of Captain Jehrie’s ship.
6. Captain Obi wasn’t the captain of the ship whose destination was Saturn.
7. Mars was the destination of the ship which launched from its location in Africa.
