Judy's Logic Problems

April 2001 ClueJo Logic Problem- The Maze

Recently, the six Clue suspects visited the beautiful gardens of Clagmore Castle, and while there each paid a visit to the famous Hexagonal Maze on the grounds. There are six entrances into the maze - lettered A thru F in the diagram, and each of the garden lovers, including Miss Scarlet and Prof. Plum, entered by a different one of the six entrances, and each eventually exited by another of the entrances. However, no one person made his or her entry and exit from the same entrance. Each person entered the maze at a different time, from 11:00 to 11:25 AM (at 5 minute intervals) and each exited at a different time, from 11:30 to 11:55 AM (at 5 minute intervals). From the clues, can you determine, for each suspect, the place where he or she entered and the place where he or she exited, as well as the time each person entered the maze and the time each person exited the maze?

1. No two people spend the same number of minutes inside the maze, and no two people entered and exited by the same exact two entrances.

2. Col. Mustard spend the longest period of time in the maze, while Mrs. Peacock (who neither entered or exited the maze at entrance B) spent the shortest period of time.

3. Mr. Green exited at the same entrance where Mrs. White made her entry. Mrs. White entered the maze exactly 10 minutes before Mr. Green made his exit (which was sometime before the person who made his or her entry into the maze at entrance E).

4. The man who entered at entrance F spent a total of 20 minutes inside the maze, while the woman who exited at entrance F spent a total of 35 minutes inside the maze.

5. The woman who spent a total of 30 minutes inside the maze exited at the place where another woman made her entry, who in turn exited at the same place as one of the male suspects entered (who wandered around the maze from 11:05 AM to 11:30 AM).

6. The person who made his entry into the maze at entrance A exited at 11:55, and the person who exited at entrance A made his or her entry into the maze at 11:15.

7. The exit through entrance D was by the person who entered at 11:00 and who exited exactly 10 minutes after the woman who entered through entrance D exited.

SUSPECT ENTRY EXIT TIME IN TIME OUT

April 2001 EK Logic Problem - April Fool's Day

One of Everett's favorite days of the year is April Fool's Day. Most of his friends try and avoid him that day as much as possible, having experienced Everett's little pranks on more than one occasion. However, this past year was a different story. It just happened to be the first day of April that Everett and six buddies from the good old college days planned to get together for dinner and a few drinks, but none of them were even faintly aware of what Everett had planned for them!

Can you determine the first name (two are Paul and Mark) and last name (one is Benbow) of each of Everett's friends, the town where each now lives (each lives in Oregon where Everett lives, but each in a different city), and the joke Everett managed to pull on each one (one friend got squirted with Everett's boutonniere!)?

1. Three of Everett's friends are the only man whose first name initial and last name initial are the same, the only man whose first name initial is the same as the first initial of the town where he lives, and the only man whose last name initial is the same as the first initial of the town where he lives.

2. Clint and the man who found a plastic fly in his soup (which Everett had dropped in while no one was looking) are Mr. Mandel and the man from Salem, in some order.

3. Mr. Rinaldi and the man who was not at all amused when the cigar Everett had given him earlier exploded in his face are, in some order, the man from Coos Bay and the man from Portland.

4. Richard and the friend from Roseburg were the man who found the fly in his soup and the man who Everett scared half out of his wits with a hand buzzer, in some order.

5. The surnames of Ben and the man from Beaverton are Pixton and Chaplin, in some order.

6. Three college buddies of Everetts' (none of whom have the same first and last name initial, nor share a first or last name initial with the town from which they hail) are the man from Medford, the man from Coos Bay, and the man who had a sneezing fit after Everett sprinkled white pepper on his dinner napkin.

7. Even though they thought the pranks on the other guys were funny, both Samuel and Mr. Stumme weren't laughing when it came their turn - one is the man who found white pepper in his napkin (but not before it was too late!) and the other is the one whom Everett got by exchanging his regular water glass with a dribble glass.
