Judy's ClueJo Facts Page
My ClueJo logic problems are often centered around the characters of the popular board game Clue [known as Cluedo in England]. For over 50 years people have been trying to discover "who did it, in which room, and with what weapon?"
The victim is Mr. John Boddy [known as Dr. David Black in the Cluedo version]. The suspects are Col. Mustard, Miss Scarlet, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Mrs. White, and Prof. Plum. The weapons are the candlestick, knife, lead pipe, revolver, rope, and wrench. The rooms are the Ballroom, Billiard Room, Conservatory, Dining Room, Hall, Kitchen, Library, Lounge, and Study.
I have created my own six characters - Dr. Gray, Inspector Black, Lady Melon, Miss Lavender, Mrs. Bluebell, and Sir Sable. These characters appear in many of my logic problems, and often you will find one or more of them along with one or more of the Clue suspects in one logic problem.
When working the ClueJo logic problems, you will often need to know which color each character is associated with, and it might be fun to picture these characters in your mind. Below is a small biography of the twelve characters. Following that are several url's to sites where one can glean more information on Mr. Boddy and the six Clue suspects.
Note: I've used the characters from the 1972 Edition of Clue here, so they may look different from those you might be familiar with if you have a later edition of the board game.
Clue Characters
Mr. Boddy (Victim)
First name John
Age: Unknown
Height: Unknown
Eyes: Unknown
Hair: White
Background: Not much is known about Mr. Boddy, This really wasn't what I thought Mr. Boddy would look like - a bit wild - but then again, when you are getting knocked off every time you turn around, I suppose you would look wild too!
Colonel Mustard (yellow)
First name: Michael
Age: 66
Height: 6'0"
Eyes: Blue
Hair: White
Background: Retired from the army, Colonel Mustard retired to a small, quiet village. There he became friends with Mr. Boddy and both men often meet at the local shooting club.
Miss Scarlet (red)
First name: Vivienne
Age: 24 (or sometimes said to be 27)
Height: 5'9"
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black
Background: A rising star on both the West End and Broadway stage, her last starring role brought her some bad reviews from major newspapers. Miss Scarlet is Mr. Boddy's current female companion (or is she?), and is a regular guest at the Boddy mansion.
Mr. Green (green)
First name: Jonathan or John
Age: 48
Height: 5'10"
Eyes: Brown
Hair Dark Brown
Background: Having spend much of his life in the village, Mr. Green spends a lot of his time attending to community affairs. He is a quiet man and takes a firm stand in his beliefs and opinions. He is also a bit unscrupulous in his dealings. He and Mrs. White have been good friends for many years.
Mrs. Peacock (blue)
First name: Elizabeth
Age: 41
Height: 5'7"
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Grey
Background: A busybody and well-known gossip, Mrs. Peacock was at one time Mr. Boddy's girlfriend, until Miss Scarlet arrived on the scene. Even though she is somewhat of a snob, she is usually invited to village gatherings, for not inviting her can be disastrous. She is passionately jealous of Mr. Boddy's attentions to both Miss Scarlet and Lady Melon.
Mrs. White (white)
First name: Blanche
Age: 57
Height: 5'4"
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Gray
Background: The Boddy family's maid and cook for over 40 years, she keeps the place running and Mr. Boddy in his place. Mrs. White and Mr. Green have been good friends for many years.
Professor Plum (purple)
First name: Peter
Age: 38
Height: 5'10"
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Dark Brown
Background: Prof. Plum is an Archaeologist, Inventor, Explorer, and Professor, and continues his quest for knowledge and innovation. Because Mr. Boddy has provided financial backing for many of Prof. Plum's projects, the Professor is a frequent guest at the Boddy mansion. Since the Professor has met Lady Melon, his visits have become more frequent.
My Own Characters
Dr. Gray (gray)
First name: Clarence
Age: 60
Height: 5'10"
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Dark Gray
Background: Retired from the medical field for only a short time, the good doctor loves to have friends over to play a game of Clue. Intertwined between reality and imagination, Dr. Gray has also developed a fondness for Mrs. Peacock, which no one else can explain. Widowed and childless, Dr. Gray looks upon Inspector Black as the son he never had. A generous and kind man, he always sees the good side of any issue.
Inspector Black (black)
First name: Richard
Age: 34
Height: 6'0"
Eyes: Gray
Hair: Blonde
Background: After Law School, Inspector Black practised law for a few years, and then turned his mind toward law enforcement. After graduating from the Police Academy, Black went to work for Scotland Yard and quickly rose in the ranks. Now an Inspector with the CID, he always catches his man (or woman). Inspector Black and Miss Lavender have been a twosome for some time.
Lady Melon (orange)
First name: Monica
Age: 29
Height: 5'6"
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blonde
Background: After twice being widowed, Lady Melon is hesitant to take her relationship with Sir Sable the next step - marriage. She looks forward to the time spent playing Clue with her friends, and is also a moving force in the village. She and Mr. Green have become friends while helping with many village fund-raisers. A handsome woman, she is gregarious by nature. Lady Melon also is a frequent female guest to the Boddy mansion.
Miss Lavender (lavender)
First name: Penelope
Age: 25
Height: 5'7"
Eyes: Grey
Hair: Brown
Background: Niece to Mrs. Bluebell, Miss Lavender is Governess to the children of Sir Sable's brother. Besides being beautiful and intelligent, she is also spunky and fun-loving. Although she has a marvelous voice, and once thought of singing professionally, her love for children prevailed. Wealthy in her own right, she works as a Governess simply because she wants to. Madly in love with Inspector Black, she however shies from marriage because of the type of work he does.
Mrs. Bluebell (blue)
First name: Clara
Age: 52
Height: 5'10"
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Gray
Background: A well-known writer of mystery novels, Mrs. Bluebell is tall and angular. She appears rather daunting and austere in manner, and invariably appears in public wearing tweeds. Mrs. Bluebell does not approve of her niece, Penelope Lavender, working as a Governess, but has resigned herself to the fact. She is shy and introverted, and many people think her a snob. Only do her closest friends know that she is really a kindhearted person.
Sir Sable (brown)
First name: Roderick
Age: 35
Height: 5'11"
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black
Background: He was knighted at age 28 (for whatever reason) and is a member of Parliament. Sir Sable is a handsome man, and is fastidious and aloft in manner. Deeply in love with Lady Melon, he hopes someday to make her his wife.
