Judy's Logic Problems

December ClueJo Logic Problem - One Horse Open Sleigh

This year, Mr. Boddy had invited five of his English friends to join him for a good old fashion American Christmas and the invitation extended from Saturday, December 21st through the 26th.. Each guest - Dr. Gray, Inspector Black, Lady Melon, Miss Lavender and Mrs. Bluebell - had to leave England at different times due to prior obligations. In addition, there was a large snow storm across all of New England, so with roads closed and airplanes and trains behind schedule, his guest arrived at the village train depot on different dates at different times - Sunday evening, Monday morning, Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning, and Tuesday afternoon.

By road, it is about five miles from the Boddy Mansion to the village, but by using horse and sleigh and going overland, Mr. Boddy was able to fetch his guests in Christmas style! Thankfully, each guest arrived ready for winter weather and each was bundled up in a scarf, hat, and gloves - and while the scarf, hat, and gloves worn by each person was the same color, not two guests wore the same two colors of winter coverings. Mr. Boddy picked up each guest himself and on the way back to the mansion, each guest marveled at the beautiful countryside. In addition, each guest shared with Mr. Boddy his or her plans to travel to a western state to spend New Year’s Eve with a friend before returning to England.

From the clues, determine when Mr. Boddy fetched each guest at the train depot, the color of winter wear each wore, and the state where each guest planned to spend New Years (one guest planned on visiting Nevada).

1. On three consecutive trips by horse and sleigh (but not necessarily on the same day), Mr. Boddy picked up Miss Lavender, the person who wore the yellow hat, scarf, and gloves, and the person who plans to spend New Year’s Eve in Utah.

2. The guest bundled up in hat, scarf, and gloves of red wasn’t the one who planned to spend New Year’s Eve in California.

3. Inspector Black was fetched from the train depot some time earlier than the person who plans to visit a friend in Oregon after Christmas, who was fetched sometime earlier than the person who was bundled up in a white hat, scarf, and gloves (who wasn’t the person who planned to visit Utah while in the States).

4. Dr. Gray was not the individual who planned to travel to Wyoming to spend New Year’s Eve.

5. Mr. Boddy fetched Lady Melon at the village train depot the day before, but at the same time of day, as the person who wore the green hat, scarf, and gloves.

6. The guest bundled up against the weather in blue hat, scarf, and gloves (who wasn’t Miss Lavender) arrived by train sometime earlier, but on a different day, than the person who planned to visit a friend in Wyoming.

7. The man who arrived at the train depot on Monday afternoon was delighted with the horse and sleigh as a means of travel, and thought the snow covered woods delightful.

December's EKLogic Problem - Christmas Gift Wrappings

In Christmas’ past, the Kaser family had drawn names, but this year they did things a bit differently. As all the ‘children’ were grown, each man bought a gift appropriate for a female adult, and each woman brought a present appropriate for a male adult. The gifts were then placed beneath the tree to be opened after Christmas dinner by drawing names. By mid morning there were a total of twelve gifts under the tree - six from men (from Everett, his father Calvin, his son Shane, his brother John, his brother-in-law Jerry, and his nephew Scott) and six from women (his mother Wilma, his wife Sharon, his daughter Megan, his sister Donna, his sister-in-law Lori, and his niece Julie). Everett’s brother Norman and his family had been delayed and would arrive just before dinner.

Each gift under the tree was wrapped in a different Christmas wrapping and topped with a blue, green, gold, red, silver, white, or yellow bow. The wrappings were decorated with angels, bells, candles, Christmas trees, elves, green and white stripes, musical notes, red and blue plaid, red and white checks, reindeer, Santa Claus’s, or snowflakes. From the clues, determine the Christmas wrapping and color of bow each family member had wrapped his or her gift in before placing it under the tree.

1. Calvin wrapped his gift in wrappings decorated with reindeer, and one of his grand-daughters topped her gift with a silver bow.

2. There was only one red bow, one blue bow, and one white bow, and these topped the gifts from one male (who used wrapping paper with bells) and two female members of the family.

3. Two of the gifts from female family members had gold bows - one was the package wrapped in paper decorated with elves and one the package wrapped in paper decorated with musical notes.

4. John (whose wrapping paper had either Christmas trees or a bells motif), Scott, and Julie all picked out the same color of bows for their gifts.

5. Shane and the female family member who chose wrapping paper with candles both chose the same color of bow for their gifts.

6. Megan and the male family member who had wrapped his gift in paper with green and white stripes both chose bows of the same color (which was not gold).

7. Jerry’s package was topped with either a gold, silver, or blue bow.

8. The one person who decorated her package with a yellow bow (who was neither Wilma nor Donna) wrapped her gift in either red and blue plaid paper or paper decorated with Christmas trees.

9. Everett and his father were the only two who topped their gifts with green bows.

10. Lori (who didn’t wrap her gift in paper decorated with elves) and the male family member who used red and white checked wrapping paper both used the same color of bow on their gifts.

11. Sharon wasn’t the person who wrapped her gift with paper decorated with Christmas trees nor was she the woman who used the paper decorated with snowflakes.

12. Donna, who chose wrapping paper with an angel motif, didn’t select a red bow for her gift

December Stefano Logic Problem - Turkeyville Holiday

Stefano never thought he’d be spending Thanksgiving in a place called Turkeyville, but that is what happened to him last month. One of Stefano’s friends - George Byrd, lives in a small town called Turkeyville and every year from the day before Thanksgiving until that Sunday is filled with things to do, including a HUGE Thanksgiving Day picnic on Thursday afternoon at the park where they serve lots of every type of food imaginable - except for turkey. The residents of Turkeyville love turkeys and many are members of the Save the Turkey Association. Why, some citizens of that town even have pet turkyes!

From Wednesday through Sunday, a different contest was held each morning, including a mule braying contest. Stefano found the whole holiday rather unusal, even the contest winners had strange names in his opinion - one was Jethro Poteen. However, the prize given to each day winner wasn’t shabby as prizes go, and included tickets to various activities going on in the state’s largest city which was but a spit and a holler from Turkeyville. One day’s winner received tickets to Joyland, the city’s amusement park. From the clues, determine on which day each contest was held, the winner of each day’s contest, and the prize each winner received.

1. Dolly Dogsbody won the contest held the day before the turkey gobbling contest, which was held the day before the contest where the prize was tickets for two to the planetarium.

2. Neither the contest which was won by Herkimer Outsettler nor the pig calling contest was held on either Wednesday nor Sunday.

3. The yodelling contest was held the day before the contest where the winner received passes to the bowling alley.

4. ‘Lil Joe Mushbroom (who didn’t win the turkey gobbling contest) won a contest held sometime later that the contest where the prize was tickets to play miniature golf.

5. On three consecutive days, the winners were the person who won the movie tickets, the person who won the watermelon seed spitting contest, and Bella Rumpbothom.
