February 2000 ClueJo Puzzle - Leisure Time

In a rare interview, Mrs. Peacock was asked what she and the other five suspects in the game of Clue did in their spare time. "Well," she replied, "we don't often have any spare time." Then, she continued, "however, last Tuesday there was a period of a few hours when absolutely no one anywhere in the world was playing the game, and I for one, was on the golf course."

As the interview progressed, it was discovered that each suspect engaged in one of three different activites - bird watching, gardening, and playing golf. In addition, while engaged in their favorite pasttime, each suspect wore a different colored hat (either blue, green, purple, red, white, or yellow), although no suspect wore a hat the same color as the token associated with his or her name. Nor did any two suspects wear hats whose color was associated with one another's name; that is, IF Miss Scarlet wore the purple hat, then Prof. Plum did not wear the red hat.

From the following facts gleaned from the interview, can you determine which of the six suspects wore the white hat?

(1) one person of each gender participated in each type of activity
(2) one of the suspects who spent his or her time bird watching wore a red hat
(3) the two suspects who spent their leisure time in their gardens were Miss Scarlet and the person who wore a blue hat
(4) Col. Mustard wore a purple hat
(5) Both Mrs. White and the person who wore a yellow hat engaged in the same activity.
