Judy's Logic Problems

March 2000 - Murder at the Boddy Mansion

Dr. Grey and several of his friends often get together on a Saturday evening to play their favorite board game, Clue. Being a meticulous man, Dr. Grey keeps records of all things in his live, and this includes the outcome of each game of Clue played. One evening, while glancing through his notes, the good doctor noted that during the past fortnight, Mr. Boddy had met his demise in only five of his mansion's nine rooms. Not only that, but Mr. Green had never been the perpetrator, nor had the rope been used as a weapon. In fact, during the period in question, a total of 25 games had been played.

Each of the five rooms in question had been the scene of the crime exactly five times, each of the five suspects had been the culprit exactly five times, and each of the weapons in question had been used exactly five times. Additionally, in none of the 25 games played had the same suspect used the same weapon in the same room.

From the following clues, can you determine the weapon used by Mrs. White in each of the five rooms?

1. In one game, Mrs. Peacock did it in the Hall with the candlestick.

2. In one game, Miss Scarlet did it in the Study with the lead pipe.

3. Three of the five times that the Library was the scene of the crime, Col. Mustard used the lead pipe, Mrs. Peacock used the revolver, and Prof. Plum used the knife.

4. The wrench was used by Mrs. Peacock in the Kitchen, while one weapon was used by both Col. Mustard in the Kitchen and Miss Scarlet in the Library.

5. One weapon was used by both Mrs. White in the Study and Miss Scarlet in the Ballroom.
