This past winter, the three female Clue suspects and the three female ClueJo characters had occasion to fly to Europe. Although the name of the airline and their destinations were not important to this problem, the fact that they had to lay over in a different country other than that of their final destination is.
During their flight, each woman had the unfortunate luck to sit beside an individual who had an annoying habit which continued throughout the flight until each woman’s plane made an unscheduled landing in one of six different countries - Austria, France, Greece, Norway, Scotland, or Spain. Finally, they were on their way, but they say things come in threes and sure enough - upon reaching their final destinations, each woman found that her luggage had apparently been miss-routed and it took a number of days for her luggage to be located and reunited with its owner.
The good news is that the trip back home was without incident! From the clues, determine the annoying habit of each woman’s flight companion, the country in which their flights made an unscheduled landing, and the number of days it took for their luggage to be located and returned.
1. The six women are Lady Melon, the woman who had to lay over in Austria, the woman who had to lay over in Greece, the woman who sat beside a man who continually cracked his knuckles the entire flight, the woman who sat beside a man who slept and snored the entire flight, and a woman who waited a total of four days for her luggage.
2. The woman whose flight made an unscheduled landing in Scotland had endured the nerve-wracking popping of her companion’s chew gum.
3. Mrs. White, whose plane made an unscheduled landing in Norway had to wait longer to receive her luggage than did the woman who had sat beside a man on the plane who spent hours crossing and uncrossing his legs.
4. Mrs. Peacock (who wasn’t the woman whose plane landed in Greece) wasn’t the woman who sat beside a gentleman who constantly pulled on his earlobe and who had to wait for three days for her luggage to finally arrive.
5. In total, the number of days that it took the six women’s luggage to finally reach them was 22 days. Together, Mrs. Bluebell and the woman who had to layover in Austria had to wait an odd number of days.
6. The woman who sat beside a man who mumbled to himself throughout the flight and a woman whose luggage took five days to finally reach her at her final destination are Miss Lavender and the woman whose flight had to lay over in Spain, in some order.
7. Miss Scarlet, who isn’t the woman who sat beside the man who cracked his knuckles, had to wait longer than three days for her luggage to finally reach her.

Just this past March, on each Saturday of the month (2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th) Everett and some of his family members went spelunking, and each Saturday they explored a different cave. Their guide described it as mountain climbing in reverse. They would use ropes and pylons and would be going down instead of up. He urged them to descend in pairs and he’d be around in case of trouble.
Well, all went pretty well for the beginning spelunkers and by the end of the month, they felt they could be called experienced. In fact, the only thing to spoil each weekend was that Everett has a fear of the strange and unusual, and while deep inside the depths of the earth, he had occasion to see a few creatures who fit that description. One rather strange type of animal was seen at each location, and as Everett explained to his old friends, “Nah, I wasn’t scared. They just gave me the willies!” His family, of course, knew better!
From the clues, determine the cave explored on each Saturday during March, Everett’s partner each time, and what amazing and strange creature Everett saw on each occasion.
1. Some very small, extremely rare white bats drove Everett to take cover on the exploration they undertook on either March 9th or on the day that Everett partnered with his sister-in-law, Shirley.
2. On the day that Everett was scared half out of his wits by a gigantic iridescent daddy-long-legs, his partner during the descent into the cave was Eric; this was sometime later in the month than the day that Everett took a foot-long earth worm to be somewhat short, but vemonous snake!
3. Everett partnered with his wife, Sharon, sometime later in the month than when they visited Hayle’s Hole.
4. March 23rd was either the day they visited Drake’s Descent or it was the day that the white bats where spotted.
5. From first to last, but not necessarily on consecutive weekends, the family explored Colossal Caves, the cave where Shirley partnered with Everett, and the cave where a huge beetle with glowing antennas nearly gave Everett a heart attack.
6. It was either March 9th or it was the day that Everett almost fell in a shallow underground lake after nearly stepping on a harmless translucent scorpion that he partnered with his son Shane.
7. Of Everett’s daughter, Megan, and his nephew, Eric, one was his partner on the Saturday they visited Crystal Caves and the other was Everett’s partner the weekend immediately following the one when the white bats were seen.
8. The visit to Castle Cavarans wasn’t on March 2nd, although it was sometime earlier in the month that the cave they explored when Everett was partnered with Megan (which wasn’t at Drake’s Descent).

Although Stefano has been head waiter at Gordino’s Italian Restaurant for many years, one should know that he only does this type of work because he enjoys it. The ambience of the famous restaurant, his camaraderie with his co-workers, and the excellent tips make it most enjoyable. Stefano, in fact, has many college degrees and speaks several languages fluently.
One evening, five different customers reserved tables for parties of a different number (4, 5, 6, 7, or 8). The person under whose name each reservation was made (one of whom was Dr. Cal Spaul) was one of those people whom waiters and waitresses alike simply dread waiting on as nothing seems to please them. This particular evening, Stefano offered to wait on each table as he wanted to ‘impress’ each of the hosts or hostesses and his or her guests by speaking in a different language when the complaint came - which without fail, it did. Smiling graciously and gesturing engagingly, Stefano earned smiles from around the table, although if they had known what he had said, those present would not have been at all pleased!
From the clues, can you determine the person under whose name each reservation was made, the number of people in each dinner party, the response Stefano made when the host or hostess made their first complaint, and in which language he spoke it?
1. There were at least three more people in Mr. Bankers party than in Professor Rich Mann’s, to whom Stefano did not say “May birds nest in your hair!”
2. Stefano responded to Miss Smyth-Worth's complaint in Norwegian. Miss Smyth-Worth’s party was made up of more individuals that was Mrs. Van Snoot’s party (to whom Stefano did not speak in Japanese).
3. It was not to the host or hostess of the parties of four individuals or seven individuals that Stefano’s response was “Of course, right away Pig Lips!” A male customer called to make the reservation for the party of six.
4. When Stefano responded to a complaint with “What a big nose you have!” he was speaking to a table of more people than that to which he spoke in Portuguese.
5. The two parties which consisted of six persons and seven persons were the table to whom Stefano addressed his response to the complaint in French (which wasn’t Mr. Banker’s party) and the table to whom Stefano addressed his response to the complaint in Portuguese.
6. The person to whom Stefano replied to their complaint with “May birds next in your hair!” hosted a party with fewer people than that of of the party to whom his response was made in French.
7. It was not in Japanese that Stefano smiled and bowed as he whisked the plate of ‘cold’ food off the table and graciously said “May warts grow on your nose!” One customer responded with a huge smile when Stefano beamed and said “Your every wish, Bat Ears!”
