“Hey Reg,” I bet everybody in the lunchroom was still talking about those flying saucers, weren’t they?”

“I guess said Reggie but I was to busy talking to Ira.”
“Ira?”
“Yeah,” you know, the new engineer they hired.”
“Oh, that Ira, word, so what did you guys talk about?”
“You wouldn’t believe it if I told you.”
“Come on dog, He probably told you they got that fortifier workin, didn’t he?”
Reggie looks around and says, “First let’s at least look like we’re doing some work.” Turn on a couple more scopes and get some wave forms going.”
“No problem,” said Sherman as he darted around making the department look busier. When he finished, Reggie told him about Ira.

3:30 rolls around and it’s quitting time. Reggie, Darinda and Sherman decide to stick around and put in some OT. About 4:00 O’clock Oceana comes to Reggie’s department looking very dispirited. Her visits to R&R are not unusual; the women she work with are jealous of her and most of them have no genuine sympathy for her. So like so many other folk at SOLARCOM, she confides in Reggie from time to time.

“What’s wrong?” asked Reggie.
“Max called and said, He doesn’t want me with any other man.”
Trying to keep her composure, She placed the back of her hand to her eyes. As the tears leak past her hand, Reggie grabbed some Puffs from his bench. While handing her the tissues, he escorted her to the back of the shop, out of easy view.
She dabbed at her tears and continued. “He told me to call him if I need companionship. He is so domineering, how can such a caring person turn into such a monster? Any way we’re divorced! What is Max’s problem? she sobbed. I let his lawyers do whatever they wanted, just so I could have peace. But now I have to deal with this, this, oh what am I going to do?”

Frustration tortured the embattled woman with countless no win scenarios.
Reggie thought; it’s a good thing I’m married because, as sweet as Oceana is I would be trying to hook up with her myself. Of course that would be very dangerous if Max is going to act like this.

“Well Oceana, I think you should seriously consider getting a restraining order on this guy.”

“Yes, but what about his son? He should be able to see his son.”

Yeah, but if Max comes to your house to see his son, and the plumber is there or something. He might just go off and do something crazy.

She crosses her arms tightly over her breast and says, “Oh God, what do I have to do to get my life back?”
Her body starts trembling as she sobs. Reggie didn’t know what to say so he just hugged her. He saw Sherman peeping and made a face gesture signaling Sherman to stay out of sight.
Oceana lives in a plush condominium she bought when she and Max were in the Real-estate business together, it’s one of the few things she accepted in the divorce. She forced her lawyers to fork over much of the wealth she disserved to Max.
Reggie instructed her to explain her situation to the security people at her complex.
Maybe, they will watch her place a little more closely. Forget about the Police, they won’t do anything until after Max makes his move.

She thanks him for his advice and a shoulder to cry on then went on her way.
Sherman was beside himself. He said, “Yo player, I wish she would cry on my shoulder.”
Reggie said shyly, cut it out man, that girl has some serious problems.

Five thirty time to hit the road.
As they drive home, Darinda asks Reggie. “Who was that guy you were talking to in the cafeteria?”
Reggie told her about Ira then, they rehashed all the exciting stories, concerning the now infamous [Incident]. Conversation turned to their two children Robert and Nicole. Fifteen and eleven respectively. Darinda called earlier to check on them.

When they got home there were tons of bills waiting for them. At least the kids where glad to see them, especially Nicole. Robert was particularly interested in the UFO reports because it occurred so close to SOLARCOM. Reggie talked with them while Darinda made, Salmon, rice and corn for dinner.
Somewhere along the line, Reggie dosed off on the couch. He awoke to his son nudging him and saying, “Dad, c’mon and eat.”
After dinner, Reggie struggled to take his contacts out. He showered, brushed his teeth, and called it a day.

The TV blares on at 5:oo am. Darinda sets the TV to come on as their main wake up call.

The news was on as usual. The reporter said; the joint chiefs of staff were convening with the Defense Department. They were meeting to discuss the UFO sightings in Mount Laurel New Jersey.
The Defense Department released a statement earlier saying; the public is in no immediate danger at this time. As For the UFO’s, there is an unprecedented investigation in progress. Washington is being very tight lipped about the sightings.

Other countries got wind of the event, which spawned an insatiable appetite for details. They even wanted to send some of their scientist to the area where it happened. The US was having none of that.
There was one very strange thing about the report. Absolutely none of the film footage from the incident was legible. The film crews were extremely pissed.

Reggie and Darinda got dressed checked on the kids then went out to the car. Reggie always takes a quick glance at the car’s body to see if there are any new scratches or dents. In this neighborhood, it happens. Reggie reflects; I knew I was taking a chance when I leased this Grand Prix, maybe one day I’ll be able to afford a house with a garage.
Darinda says, “Hurry up and get in the car so I can put the cone out, it’s cold out here.” This ritual continues; I pull out of the space, Dar puts the bright orange cone out in the street in front of our house. The way this system suppose to work is; if somebody drives up and see the cone, they move on. But if they just can’t resist my humble little spot, upon vacating, they are supposed to put the cone back. But more often than I like, Somebody moves my cone, park their car and leave the car there for days! (Lord, give me the strength.)

After they settle in, Dar helps Reggie put up the radar detector and they’re off to work. The Disc Jockeys on the radio are doing hilarious jokes on the UFO sightings. Laughter is inevitable.
When they arrive to work, Reggie’s eyes went to Sherman’s empty parking spot. Walking up to the building, Darinda waves her badge in front of the electronic reader, allowing them entrance into the building. Reggie and Darinda go to their separate departments.

Reggie hung his coat up and got some coffee, then sat to meditate for a moment.
He heard Sherman before he saw him, coming down the isle, joking with the guys in Test Dept.
“Good morning Reg.”
“Good morning Sherman.”

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday go by. And there was no sign of Ira.

Friday morning, while Reggie and Sherman were doing some heavy trouble-shooting. Larry Di Sipio from test Dept came over. Reggie and Sherman said, “Yo, Di Sipio!” Everybody loves saying that. Larry is the best technician in any of the shops. When someone is hopelessly stuck on a problem, You heard “Yo, Di Sipio!” and he would come to the rescue, now people say it even when they don’t have a problem.

How you guys holdin up in R&R?

“Hey, Larry, we’re good. What’s happening with you guys?”

“Well,” said Larry, “You know all those problems we were having with the Router fortifier?”

“Yeah.” Said Reggie.
Sherman moves closer to hear.

Every last problem is history. It’s even doing things they didn’t expect until two or three years from now. Every project they put that guy Ira on turns to gold.
“Reggie and Sherman look at one another and Reggie says, “ Now that’s interesting.”

Reggie I heard Ira was talking to you the other day, what did he say? Asked Larry.
“Ah, we just talked about all the weird things that were happening that day.”
“Man, if I had some money to invest, I would sink it into SOLARCOM right now.” said Larry, pointing his screwdriver to the floor for emphasis.
