Break time rolls around. Reggie and Sherman walk to the cafeteria greeting other workers on the way. Entering the lunchroom, Reggie’s wife waves him over. She whispers you know that guy Ira you were talking about?
“Yeah says Reggie.”
Well Gail is beside herself because she’s been trying to get his attention. But he likes Oceana.
“What!” Reggie says out loud.
Shsh! Don’t be so loud, Gail is right over there,” she points with her head and walks away.
“My bad,” says Reggie.

“May I asked what all that was about or is it none of my business?” asked Sherman,

“I’ll tell you later,” said Reggie as he secretly watches Gail.
He thought; she does look upset about something, hmm, she’s even prettier when she’s mad.
At that moment, Ira walks in with Oceana.
Reggie says “Ah oh!”
“What?” Sherman asks.
As soon as Gail spotted the pair, she immediately got her stuff together and left the cafeteria. Reggie looked over to the table where his wife was sitting. She rolled her eyes at him signaling, I told you so. Then she rejoined the conversation with her friends.

Ira comes right over to the table where Sherman and Reggie are sitting.
“Hello, Reginald,” he then turns and says, “Hello, Sherman.” Sherman looked surprised as Ira shook his hand; Oceana tells me that you two are very nice people. Oceana gives them a little cutesy hand wave as she stays close to Ira, both Ira and Oceana are sporting broad smiles.

Ira points to Reggie and says, “Reggie, I will stop by your Department shortly before lunch, OK?”
“No problem,” says Reggie.

Ira gently guides Oceana out of the cafeteria.
Sherman asks, “What’s goin on around here?”

“I have no Idea,” said Reggie, as his eyes trail the handsome couple.

Later Ira shows up ten minutes before lunch, just as he promised. The techs over in test department were vying for position to get a glimpse of the celebrated genius. Ira sits in one of the many vacant chairs in R&R and says in a quiet voice, “I got you that raise.” Ira slid an envelope out of his pocket. “There’s a thousand dollars in here, that should more than cover the hours you and your wife would work between today and over the weekend.” Sherman’s eyes got big as saucers.

“Sherman, I have a thousand dollars for you as well.”

He then hands Sherman an envelope. In shock, Sherman slowly retrieves the envelope and sits down almost missing the chair. Ira continues. “ I came early because I want you both to see my real office. It’s about thirty minutes from here.”
“But we only have an hour lunch maximum, do you think we’ll be able to get back in time?”
Ira smiles, “I will take care of any problems you may have with your supervisor. The things I will show you will amaze you, I promise.”
Reggie paused and said, “Well, I have to let my wife know so she won’t be looking for me.” “No problem” says Ira as he swivels around to face Sherman. Sherman looks up from peeping at the hundred dollar bills in the envelope. “Oh I’m down! I mean, I’m goin.”

“Good, meet me in front of the building. Look for a silver Mercedes Benz station wagon. We will all travel in my car.” As Ira walks away, Sherman wonders if this is the same Benz that he saw the other day.
After Reggie gives his wife the heads up, she wonders; what could Ira possibly want with Reggie? “Be careful now Reggie.”

Reggie and Sherman go outside and Ira is waiting with his sparkling silver Mercedes Benz. Sherman throws his arms out and says, “I knew! I knew it! “Woo, this jawn is vicious, it had to be the one!”
They hop in and admire the luxury. It had every option that the Mercedes Benz people could conjure up. Ira spies on Sherman from the rear view mirror.
“This vehicle was custom built for a well heeled music mogul. He met his demise in a boating accident, before he could take delivery. It is completely armor plated, including the windows; it also has a shielded undercarriage, bulletproof tires, and a supercharged engine with nitrous oxide, It wasn’t cheap.”
By now, Sherman was in car heaven, smiling and nodding his head with approval. Reggie was examining the car, trying to figure out how Mercedes put so much armor in there, without disturbing that sleek look.
“I did not necessarily purchase this car for the armor but it’s a nice touch,” Ira said.

The classy wagon zips down and around back roads until they come to what use to be a cornfield, there was just one house on the property. The house was modern and spacious with some minor construction left incomplete.
Ira turns onto the path that leads up to a three-car garage.

“I own a hundred acres out here.”

Reggie and Sherman are speechless. Ira got out of the car and said, “Come let me show you around.” Ira taps a button on the keypod, opening the rear gate window of the Benz; He fetches a brief case from the back and opens it. Out came some
sunglasses; at least they looked like sunglasses. Ira said, “Go ahead put them on.” Sherman and Reggie looked at each other and put the glasses on, the glasses looked dark when they held them in their hands, However, when they put them on they could see very clearly. “Now, look over in that direction.” Ira said.

As Reggie and Sherman turned their heads, they could not believe their eyes. Especially Sherman, blurting out, “Hey that’s one of the UFO’s I saw!” Reggie said, “I see it but I don’t believe it. That thing is huge.”
Sherman said, “If you think that’s big you should have seen the other two.”
Ira smiled and asked, “Would you like to see inside? The Craft, not the house, There is nothing in the house yet.”
“Sure” they replied.

The ship was in a horizontal position, with a large rear end that slowly tapered to a sharknose front end. The bottom was semi flat and the ship was perched on two fins, one long fin on each side of the ship. As they walked towards the ship, an entrance seems to melt open. A ramp came down from the opening in an instant, and Ira instructed them to stand on the ramp as he joined them. Suddenly a well-lit enclosure formed over them and whisked them up inside of the ship. They did not wobble, trip or anything. They never experienced moving like that in their lives. Not even at Great Adventure amusement park. The opening closed behind them. Inside, it was warm and pleasant, with a minty smell.

Then Ira said, “I want you to meet Inky and Dinky.” He did something with his wrist bracelet and these two green Aliens came from another room. Sherman and Reggie were noticeably startled as they examined the Aliens from where they were standing. The Aliens had big heads and big black slanted eyes, they stood about five feet tall, wearing neatly fitting uniforms that looked like blue Swede, with some kind of gold trimming.

Ira introduced the Aliens to Reggie and Sherman. The insect-like duo greeted them in English. But Reggie and Sherman weren’t about to shake their hands.
“Are these Aliens?” asked Reggie, as he continued to examine the buglike creatures.

“They are Living Amalgamations, Bio-Bots.” Said Ira. They are helpers and data processors. However, they are only living in the sense that a plant or animal is living, They have a very complex semi synthetic brain. We have created many such as these. They help me immensely since I can only be in one place at a time.”

Reggie and Sherman definitely did not expect to see such amazing things.
Ira saw their amazement and said, “You have not seen anything yet. Now, how would you like to be my students? Part time of course. You will learn about things that only a few people know exist. Your pay will be considerably more than what you’re making at SOLARCOM. Plus, this training will make your resume sparkle.”

Sherman asked “Don’t we have to get some kind of government clearance or something?” Reggie shook himself from the daze and checked his watch. His digital-watch was showing all kinds of random patterns. “My watch is going crazy. But I know it has to be late. There’s no way we’re going to get back in time.”
Sherman reaches for his cell phone and says “I’ll call one of the guys in test and tell them we’re stuck in traffic or somethin.”
“Relax gentleman. Sherman your cell phone won’t work in here.” Said Ira. “Consider this, if you and Sherman come back tomorrow for a further briefing, you will both receive nine thousand dollars each.”

Reggie paused, trying to put everything into perspective. But Sherman said, “Nine thousand dollars?! Hey I’ll spend the night,” but after a fresh glance at the bug people, Sherman relented, “Well, I can get here real early.” “Ira turns to Inky and Dinky, they have a short conference, after which, the two bio-bots disappear into the cavernous ship.
Ira slaps his hands together, rubs them against each other, and says. “Alright gentleman lets go back to SOLARCOM.” They took that weird but cool ramp to the ground. Upon returning to the Mercedes, Reggie and Sherman returned those strange glasses to Ira.

While heated leather seats welcome back its occupants, Reggie tilts his head towards Ira and asks, “Does Oceana know about all of this?”
“I have told her some things but I have not shown her the things I’ve shown you two. The poor woman has enough drama in her live already. I must insist that you not mention this to her or anyone else for that matter.”

After they ride a short distance Reggie looks over at Ira and asks, “What has all of this got to do with the UFO’s we’ve been seeing?” Sherman sat up in the back seat to hear the answer.
Ira said, “Meet me between 7:00 and 7:30 am tomorrow at the Burgerking near SOLARCOM, You know the place, we will leave from there. Then I will tell you how these things are related, Fair enough?”
“I guess so,” said Reggie.
“I’m there,” said Sherman. “Nine thousand dollars!” He thought outloud.

Reggie asked “Is it true you were able to get all of our stuck-in-the-mud technology going at SOLARCOM?”

Ira laughs, throwing his head back he says; “This technology is not even child’s play. I could have had all of those problems solved in less than an hour. But I have a mission to accomplish and I need to be there for a while.”

Ira’s tone becomes more somber as he turns to Reggie and says, “You know I didn’t think I would ever be this happy again, after my wife died. But today I am happy.” Ira smiles and Reggie could swear he saw a tear roll down Ira’s cheek. They all became deftly quiet.

After they return to SOLARCOM. Ira apologizes to their Supervisor, Vince.
He schmoosed Vince until he was glad the guys were late.

4:00 O’clock Reggie and Sherman cleanup and walk to their cars. Darinda has already started Reggie’s car, she doesn’t drive, but she does have an extra set of keys. This comes in handy because she usually beats Reggie to the car; the car is warm by the time Reggie gets in.

Sherman was waiting for his car to warm up, when Reggie started to drive by. Sherman got out of his car and motioned to Reggie to roll his window down, he yelled, “Reg you wanna run? You know this cold air makes my turbo sing.” As Sherman spoke, his words vaporized to smoke in the cold air.
Darinda looks at Reggie and says, “You better not race that fool!”

“What’s wrong Reg, you don’t think your GTP can hang?”

Darinda shouts past Reggie “Sherman you better stop that!”

“Alright, alright I’ll see you tomorrow at seven, right Reg?”

“Yeah man I’ll see you.”

It’s Friday evening and Oceana is finally getting around to checking her messages and calls on the caller ID, she holds her three-year-old son in one arm as she pushes the play button. There were two messages from Tele-marketers, and that dreaded message from Max, telling her to call him on his cell phone.

She decides to call her mother first to get some advice.
“Hi Mom.”
“Hi Oceana I was just thinking about you and little Troy. Is everything all right? Troy is not sick or anything is he?”

“No Mom Troy’s fine, she pauses, “It’s Max that I’m worried about, he left a message for me to call him, but I’m afraid to.

“Maybe he just wants Troy for the week-end or somethin honey.”
“Mom you have know idea how Max has changed. Every since I got this job he has been calling me and saying strange things. He says he doesn’t want me dating anybody. We are divorced and it’s really none of his business whether I date or not.”

“Well have you tried telling him that?”

“Please, it just goes in one ear and out the other.”

“Well maybe you should change your home phone to an unlisted number.”

“Mom, he’s a decorated Seal with connections in high places. He would have my new number almost as soon as it’s issued to me.

“My God I didn’t realize it was this bad. Maybe you should give me his number and let me try to talk some sense into him.”

“No, that won’t help, he’s a smooth talker, he’ll tell you what you want to hear and continue to do his thing, but I do appreciate you asking, I just wish he would leave me alone.” Oceana is pacing back and forth renewing her grip on Troy from time to time. Troy yawns.

“Well what does he expect you to do? He didn’t want to be your husband anymore.”
“I don’t know, he claims that I was the one who pushed for the divorce. He said; he was satisfied with the way things were. Mom I didn’t want to wake up one morning with AIDS!
Max is just plain mean and selfish.” Her voice starts to crack. “Mom he wasn’t this way when we got married, that Playboy Membership and Nathaniel, ruined him.”

“Ok, Ok honey, calm down, it’s not your fault, and don’t blame Nathaniel, Max is a big boy he makes his own decisions. Anyway, it is the weekend he may just want troy for a while.
I’ll tell you what, Call him and see what he wants and then call me back OK sweetie?”

“OK Mom.” She said trying to regain her composure.
“Mom please don’t tell dad, he might try and confront Max. I would just die if something happened to dad.”
Her mom sighs, “Ok Oceana but he’s going to find out one way or another, now you go ahead and call Max.”
“Alright,” Oceana hangs up. Troy is asleep now. She gently lays him on the sofa and, takes a deep breath to get her bearings.
The caller ID displays Max number. Up to this point, Oceana had convinced herself that, returning Max’s calls was the only civil thing to do, since they do share a son together. That kind of tolerance is being pushed to its limits, as she punches Max’s number, her loathing for him reaches a new high.

Max is instructing an evening class of Secret Service men. They’re executing some vigorous Kong Fu techniques. When Max cell phone rings. He looks at the caller ID and smiles, “I have to take this.”
He motions to Nathaniel, his top student, to take over the class. As Max walks to his office he answers. “Hello gorgeous.”

“What do you want Max?”

“Look in the mirror.” Curiously enough there is a mirror right in front of her.
“That’s what I want. I can’t get you out of my mind. Those pretty eyes that killer body tha..”

“That’s enough Max if this is about Troy get to it.”

“What? This is not about Troy. I know you’ll take good care of my son, This is about us!”

Oceana takes the phone from her ear and holds it down by her side and tries not to curse.
She puts the phone back to her ear and says “Max…”

“Ahh, I love it when you call my name. I can just imagine lying on top of your golden brown body, caressing your…”

Oceana interrupts. “Remember Maximilian we’re divorced! That ain’t gonna happen again, ever.”

Max voice turns menacing. “Do you think those divorce papers are going to stop me? You, of all people should know better. I’ve got money and I’ve got connections. You’re mine and you will always be mine.”

Oceana says in a desperate voice. “Look, you have hundreds maybe even thousands of beautiful women, all over the world, why can’t you just call them and leave me in peace?”

His voice gets soft again. “Because none of them are as luscious as you plus we made a great team together, remember all that money we made?”

“Yeah Max and you got most of it in the divorce remember? But that’s OK, I told you then and I’m reminding you now, I can manage on my own.”

“You always were a feisty little thing. Even when we made love you would…”

That’s it Max “I’m hanging up.”

OK gorgeous but there’s just one more thing I want you to know. If I catch you with another guy, I’m gonna snap his neck like a chicken. Are we clear..?

Oceana hangs up before he could finish the word clear. She’s so angry she can’t cry.
