Born: ca. 1849

Married: No record found.

Isaac Hill's tombstone lists him in the 43rd USCT.  No Military record of Isaac Hill has been found for the 43rd USCT.   However, in the 45th USCT, Isaac Hill is listed as 18 years old (b. 1846), 5' 2" tall, dark eyes, dark hair and dark complexion.  The 1850 Federal Census for Sadsbury Township lists an Isaac Hill, born 1849.

Federal Census and Military Service Records:

The Military Service Records lists Isaac Hill, Co. K, 45th USCT as a Musician (i.e. Drummer).  Isaac Hill was listed as aged 18 when he enrolled (b. 1846) but this was only the legal age for enlistment and young boys were routinely accepted as Musicians.  Isaac was also listed as a Substitute for Lesher Van Buskirk from the West Ward of Pottsville, Pennsylvania and was one of a "Detachment of colored Substitutes, forwarded."  The fact that he was appointed as a Musician immediately upon enrollment would support the view that he was less than 18 and probably the 15 year old Isaac Hill listed in the Federal Census for Sadsbury Township.  Isaac Hill enlisted for 3 years in the 45th USCT on August 20, 1864 at Norristown, Pennsylvania but was discharged on June 23, 1865 at the Balfour U.S. General Hospital, Fort Monroe, Portsmouth, Virginia.  He had been sick from unknown causes since May 25, 1865.  He was charged "Stoppage" for "one drum templete, one drum Sling, one pair drum Sticks and one piece Shelter-tent" (no dollar amount given).

Family:

The 1850 Federal Census for Sadsbury Township lists Isaac Hill (b. 1849) as the son of Isaac Hill (b. 1810) and Caroline Hill (b. 1812).  His sisters and brothers are:  Sophia (b. 1835), Sarah J. (b. 1839), Martha E. (b. 1842), Hannah M. (b. 1844) and William Hill (b. 1846).
