Return to Step-By-Step Guide
Once you have created your Web page files in HTML, you're ready to move them
(along with images, sounds, and other features) from your hard drive to the
Internet where they will reside on the Personal Web Pages (PWP) server. To transfer
the files, you must have File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software.
If you already use an FTP program to transfer files, you can skip down to step
2, configure it, and transfer your Web pages now. If not, you can download a
shareware version of Fetch,
an FTP program owned by the Trustees of Dartmouth College, or read about other
recommended FTP programs.
Use the following steps to download and install Fetch, configure your FTP
program, and upload your files to the Web.
1. download &
install fetch:
Fetch 3.03. It is a compressed file and your Web browser should automatically
open it with StuffIt ExpanderTM. If you
have a problem uncompressing Fetch, please visit Aladdin
Systems and install StuffIt.
- A window will open asking you where you would like to save the file. Choose
a directory, and then click Save.
- Find the folder on your hard drive where the software was saved, and launch
the Fetch Installer.
- Select "standard" installation, choose a directory in which to install Fetch,
and click Install.
2.
configure your ftp program:
- You do not have to choose a destination directory. Most users choose the
default directory, but you can create subdirectories if you have a large site
and want to group files into separate folders.
- Use the following settings in your Mac® FTP program to upload
your Personal Web Pages:
HOST NAME: pages.prodigy.net
HOST TYPE: (if required) auto-detect or UNIX
ID and Password: Type your Prodigy Internet user name and password
in the appropriate fields. Be sure to use all lower-case characters for
your user name and the correct upper and lower-case characters for your
password. Also, for security purposes, save your password only if you have
sole access to your computer.
3. upload your files:
- Connect to Prodigy Internet, then launch your Mac® FTP program.
- You do not need to create subdirectories within your PWP directory unless
you specifically want to group your files into folders.
- Refer to the instructions that came with your FTP program to find out how
to upload files.
If you need further assistance, consult your Mac® FTP program's Help file
or post questions in the special Prodigy
Internet HTML Help newsgroup.
