Bios for Dance Sources Project Principals:

Steven Malkus studied ballet and modern dance while earning his BA at Harvard University (class of '75) in Special Concentrations:Dance in Film and Video. He studied dance with Esther Brooks, Jimmy Waring, Finis Jhung and Daniel Nagrin among others.He received his MFA in choreography from ASU in 1983. He has worked as a rehearsal cameraperson and researcher for the PBS series "Dance in America," was the head of the non-profit wing of a major film editing company, The Montage Group, and has taught dance in schools and privately for over twenty-five years. He has directed his own dance company in Boston, received grants(CETA, a Regents Fellowship, and for a NEA funded videodance collaboration). He is also a published poet. His teaching stresses the importance of making your own dance---both as a mantra to call upon the Great Spirit and an expression of your unique life force.

Georgiana Holmes("Geordie") is  one of the original students of the first year that the North Carolina School for the Arts was
founded
('65-69). Her teachers were Pauline Koner, Duncan Noble, Sonia Tyven and Job Sanders. Moving to New York City in '69 she danced with Norman Walker and Pearl Lang. From '70-'76 she was a soloist with Louis Falco and Jennifer Muller. She then was a soloist with Pauline Koner, Erin Martin, and danced/choreographed with Pilobolus for two years. She has toured internationally, received two NEA choreography fellowships, taught at the Boston Conservatory of Music and Dance,the Mudra School in Brussels, and at other colleges and schools for over twenty-five years. She also paints abstract "works on paper," monoprints, and incorporates her visual art in her dances, and is a certified Subtle Self teacher as trained by Judy Blackstone.
