DANCE STORIES.....
"Revisiting an event or an observation
that we have recently experienced, one that has made an
impression upon us, we will incorporate this into a small
movement phrase -- thus, a dance story-- .
Dance may be inspired by events and observations in our
lives. Our inner responses can create a path towards
personal dance making . When the dance movements come about
from such a motivation, there is clarity for the story-teller-dancer,
providing insightful feedback as well as enjoyment thru
communication..."-geordie holmes

VISIONING
"This
w
orkshop is about visioning.
After a warmup we will concentrate on bringing visions up from
the source and flowing with their power as inspiration for making
your own dance.Visions are not images---they come through the
spirit and pervade the entire being, all the senses, and with
great force, feeling and clarity. They are vivid communications
from the deep well of our hopes, desires and dreams---also from
the intangible presences which surround us. In this workshop we
will learn how to crystalize these gifts into prayer and art."
--Steven Malkus
Steven Malkus studied ballet and modern dance while earning his BA at Harvard University (class of '75) in Special Concentrations:Dance in Film and Video. He received his MFA in choreography from ASU in 1983. He has taught dance in schools and privately for over twenty-five years. He has directed his own dance company in Boston, received grants(CETA, a Regents Fellowship, and for a NEA funded videodance collaboration). His teaching stresses the importance of making your own dance as an expression of your unique life force.

CONTACT IMPROVISATION AS A METAPHOR FOR LIVING
(TWO) THREE HOUR WORKSHOPS--Sat and Sun, Aug 25th and 26th 2:30pm-5:30, $60 each
In this class participants will experience the transcendent nature of a deep, but non-sexual, physical connection to another person. Through the meditative state of moving together, a dancer can move beyond their thinking mind and their doing body, to connect to their spiritual selves and those of others. This class is open to all levels.
"There are
many valuable life lessons inherent in the practice of Contact
Improvisation: Blending, following an energy flow, tuning your
sensitivity, deep and honest communication. I believe that
this work can nourish the spirit as it cleanses the body of
tension and other blockages. You could call my class "Contact
for Spiritual Growth." --Tony Silva
*****
Tony Silva, a native New Yorker, is a
choreographer, improviser and
multi-instrumentalist composer. Silva developed his own
unique approach to choreography, which is a hybrid of Contact
Improvisation and Modern Dance. The result is a highly physical
dancing style that communicates emotion
through action. He has taught his partnering technique at
Dance Space
Center as a guest artist since 1998.
In 1994 he earned a BFA in dance at the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst, and in 1996 founded his company Tony
Silva Dance and Music. Since then they have presented work
in many venues around New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio,
California and at the John F. Kennedy Center in
