TATER TOURS TO FLORIDA/ALABAMA & MORE

FEBRUARY 9TH – 19TH  2009 

Feb. 9th:   (Mon.)   FLY DAY ONLY TO NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA!!!

Hotel accommodations at the Hampton Inn in Metairie, Louisiana for two nights.  (Suburb of New Orleans) (504) 831-7676 Continental Breakfast included and free  Shuttle Service from the airport.  A get-acquainted meeting will be held that evening! 

Feb. 10th(Tues.) Drive into New Orleans for year round event.  This walk goes through the French Quarter and many other interesting sights.  The afternoon can be spent either doing more sightseeing or participating in the second volksmarch. This walk is through Tulane University, Audubon Park and along the Mississippi River and historic St. Charles Ave. 

Feb. 11th:  (Wed.) Drive to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the Capitol Walk.  This event starts at the Capitol Building and walks through the downtown area.  Continue onto Jackson, Mississippi for hotel accommodations at the Drury Inn & Suites. (601) 956-6100  Continental Breakfast included. 

Feb. 12th:  (Thurs.) Participate in the Capitol Walk in Jackson.  This trail travels through LeFleur's Bluff  State Park, residental neighborhoods, and Belhaven College.  Since this walk does not go near the Capitol, we will hopefully be going to the Building for a self-guided tour. 

Continue onto Orange Beach, Alabama for FOUR glorious nights (Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sunday) at the host hotel for the Florida/Alabama walking extravaganza.  Hilton Garden Inn. (251) 974-1600  No Breakfast included but most rooms have microwave and fridges.                       

Feb. 13th – 16th  (Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon.) Participate in a possible 14 events (7 walks, 4 swims, 3 bikes) Go to       www.georgiawalkers.homestead.com  for brochure.  The walks for these  4 days and the Meet and
Greet are NOT in the price of the trip.)  On Sunday and then Monday morning, we will be participating
in some of the walks in Perdido Key, FL.
(See AVA website for walk information.) 

After walking Monday Morning in Perdido Key, continue to Pensacola for year round event at the Naval Base.  This walk includes the National Museum of Naval Aviation, which has free admission, and many points of interest throughout the base, including Fort Barrancas (1844), Spanish Battery San Antonio (1797), Barrancas National Cemetery, the Gosport office building which is the only original building of the first Warrington community, the famous Pensacola lighthouse, and many others. Hotel accommodations in Pensacola at the Fairfield Inn (850) 484-8001 on Monday Night -  Continental Breakfast included. 

Feb. 17th:   (Tues.)  Drive to Tallahassee, Florida for Capitol Walk. It passes through the beautiful Florida State Capital building complex. Also see the lovely Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the statley Governor's Mansion.  Continue onto Jacksonville, FL.  Hotel accommodations at the Hampton Inn (904) 783-8277  Continental Breakfast included.

Feb 18th:    (Wed.) Drive to other side of Jacksonville to Timucuan Preserve at Fort Caroline National       Memorial Visitors Center for year round walk.  Fort Caroline memorializes the short-lived French presence in sixteenth century Florida. Here you will find stories of exploration, survival, religious disputes, territorial battles, and first contact between American Indians and Europeans Continue onto Columbia, South Carolina for hotel accommodations at Country Inn & Suites (803) 776-6660.  Continental Breakfast included. 

Feb 19th:   (Thurs.) Participate in the Columbia Capitol Walk. The trail takes you around the State House

grounds and through the University of South Carolina Campus and along historical sections of Columbia.

Continue our long drive back to near Baltimore, Maryland and the Gunther Bus Parking Lot. 

$50.00 will reserve your seat on this great trip to the WARMER WEATHER!! (Non-refundable)  Does not include any airfare …..
