When she left the solar system, Phoenix's leave-taking was visible by most by of the continental United States, if you knew exactly when and where to look.
Standing on top of the Daily Planet in Metropolis, "Betty Ross" watched to the western sky as a thin thread of red-shifted flame appeared and threaded the opposite side of the dawn.
"Betty" heard a familiar sound behind her; cymbals crashing. She was was only surprised it had taken this long. She didn't take her eyes off the dimming flame that reached straight up to the stars.
“This is as close as I got to her. This is as close as I will ever get to her,” "Betty" said.
“I know,” Fugue responded.
“I'm sorry. I just had to help any way I could. See her. Just once. Even if it's just from here.”
“Don't be sorry," Fugue said. "Despite what we told you, this is how it always happened. You have and always will lead Faith a merry chase.”
The flame was gone. Phoenix was gone. "Betty" turned to Fugue. “I guess I still need to apologize to Victor, though.”
Fugue smiled. “Come along, Willow. Its time to go home now. The Network is landing at Olympus Mons. I've already taken Faith back. The others are waiting for you.”
Willow looked back one at the eastern sky one last time. The sun was rising. She smiled. Willow then turned back and took Fugue's hand.

In the streets below the Daily Planet, a scarlet streak races past the sports utility vehicles. A red blur. A flash. Not Barry Allen, but the costume is the same.
Overhead, a Green Lantern with gray in the temples flies above him. As he soars between the buildings, a sphere of green energy trails behind him. Inside the sphere are Faith the Vampire Slayer, a young man dressed like Scarmouch and a blond woman with a slight tint of iridescent green to her hair. She has an expression of amazing serenity and the most beautiful eyes imaginable
A man swings past, like Spider-Man, his symbiote black and red.
More figures flying now. They come and fall into a familiar formation one by one.
A blond, muscular thunder god with a hammer
A young female Cholonu, her weathered, old force sword drawn, its blade glowing.
A man in a yellow zoot suit with a giant green head and a toothy grin riding a cartoon rocket. He laughs maniacally.
A pretty brunette in black fishnet stockings, a tuxedo jacket and tails, and a top hat.
A man in blue with a red cape and a large “S” on his chest.
Captain America with a dignified gray beard piloting a futuristic flight cycle. Age has not dimmed the steely conviction in his eyes.
On the roof of the Daily Planet, Fugue and Willow
appear. Willow looks up. She closes her eyes and fire begins to swirl around
her. The white flame parts around her and she lifts into the air, now encased
in the Red Knight armor. The flame flashes, briefly silhouetting as a phoenix,
and Willow Rosenberg shoots off into the sky to join her place with Earth's
mightiest heroes.
