G
Gilbert Gaines - Mixologist at "The Crystal Ball" in Metropolis. He is the only bartender who knows how to mix a "Volcano": a drink that bursts into flame when the patron picks up the glass (body-heat causes ignition). See also "Nicholas Slye". [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Gecko (Real Name: Unknown) - A ninja, The Gecko was handed over to Nazi doctor Gustav Niemann to be transformed into a super-soldier. In the doctor’s South American jungle lab, The Gecko was submitted to countless grueling operations (without anaesthesia) to meld his tissues with lizard DNA. Rescued by the Justice Society, The Gecko joined the battle against The Axis. The Gecko had a close working friendship with Stonewall. Able to blend in with surroundings like a chameleon and climb walls like a lizard, The Gecko combined these natural powers with ninja skills to combat evil. He defeated Yojimbo, and eventually killed Dr. Niemann. He returned to Japan after the war, coming to terms with his countrymen and becoming Japan’s greatest metahuman hero. (Character created by Mark Sugalski) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Eliza Genevieve - Absolutely gorgeous, totally evil Haitian voodoo priestess who was Murder Legendre's consort and apprentice in New Orleans. She was defeated and apprehended by Matilda Fortune and Captain Marvel during the Ghost Fighter-led assault on Legendre's lair, where she showed herself to be a formidable fighter as well as a talented black magician. She is currently under observation (and heavy sedation) at Arkham Asylum. [Ted Brengle]

Genni-Cide

Using atomic physics and DNA from an Earth, Native-American woman, DeSaad created a new member for Darkseid’s Female Furies Battallion: Genni-Cide. A living nuclear reactor, the combat-trained Genni can emit a powerful laser blast from her eyes, can fly, and can alter matter. She has also mastered a terrible Apokolips weapon: a laser whip. Escaping from Apokolips, Genni-Cide is attempting to get in touch with her biological roots, and is compelled to defend the wildlife, flora and fauna of Earth. She is now a member of the JLA, but holds her ecological concerns above U.S. politics. [Andrea Mollett & Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Gi-Ant Man (formerly The Monsterizer) - After years in Arkham Asylum, Dr. Henry Pym perfected his ability to control his own size, and to control various  forms of wildlife. Ants tunneled to his cell, and Pym shrunk to their size to escape (taking a shrunken Mad Hatter and Batman with him). Captured by the JLA, Pym was on his way to Belle-Reve. He's not there any longer, of course. (See also The Monsterizer) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Barbara Gordon - Librarian daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. She was Maid of Honor at the wedding of Harley Quinn & The Joker. Having been the daughter of a police commissioner, she had seen so much violence and misery that she had become convinced that mankind was unfit to continue living. She took on the persona of Batgirl and freed Bruce Wayne from Arkham Asylum, becoming his partner in a plot to eradicate mankind through a virulent plague. Batman later infected Gordon with the plague in a last ditch effort to release it into the world, but she was killed by Modesty Blaise before she could spread it among the population. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

James Gordon

Police commissioner of Gotham City. Gordon was breifly relieved of duty during the Legion Crisis after the institution of the Keene Act, but has since been reinstated. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Grand Dragon (Jeremiah Hawkins) -  Powerful metahuman pyrotic and high ranking member of the Alabama chapter of the Ku Klux Klan who terrorized minorities throughout the country as a part of a personal campaign to incite a race war in America. His career seemingly ended after he was employed by the Patchwork Man during his first campaign in Los Angeles in 1948. Hawkins was captured by the Red Knight and had his mind read by Psilence (Annette Rosenberg). As she made it abundantly clear to Hawkins at the time that she was Jewish, Hawkins now no longer fully trusts this own thoughts, believing himself to be the victim of insidious Jewish brainwashing. Because of this paranoia, it was thought he was wracked with paralyzing self-doubt every minute of every day and could no longer access his pyrotic powers. This evidently proved to be in error, as he was later secretly pardoned from Belle-Reve and repackaged as "The Eternal Flame" during the Legion Crisis by the U.S. government to hair-raising effect. Escaping the fall of Legion, his stayed under the radar until he recently re-emerged creating havoc for Magneto, only to be defeated by Aqualad and Iceman. He is now back in Belle-Reve  [Ted Brengle]

Gray Ghost (Xavier L. Rand)
Xavier was born in New York City. At age 17, he left home to seek adventure in the world -- much against the wishes of his parents. He boarded a freighter as a deck hand for a short time, but after a summer of doing this, left the boat while it was docked at a port in France. Xavier arrived at a recruiting office in Leon for the French Foreign Legion and decided to join. If anyone could provide action and adventure, surely the Legion could. Xavier served faithfully and valiantly for 10 years. He served in campaigns in the middle east, but mostly in the jungles of Africa. There, he learned jungle survival skills and gained knowledge the local cults and their practices. One of those cults involved a man by the name of Ra's Al Ghul. This cult caused many problems for the Legion and was the focus of many raids. Ra's managed to escape the clutches of the Legion after he and his cult incinerated an entire village and most of his company. The dying wish of Rand's commander was that he hunt Ra's down and avenge their deaths. Xavier vowed to do just that. Xavier put in for retirement from the Legion and was granted retirement with honors. He then spend the next 3 years hunting Ra's across the continent of Africa. In those travels, Xavier met with The Ghost Who Walks. The two teamed up for a short while to fight Ra's, who eventually fled the continent. The Ghost Who Walks, also calling himself The Phantom, urged Xavier to travel and continue his hunt of Ra's, but to don an alternate persona. Together, they came up with The Gray Ghost. And thus, Xavier left for America where he believed Ra's was headed next to hunt him down. Xavier was recruited into CURE shortly after returning to America and currently resides in Star City where fights crime and is always looking for clues to the whereabouts of Ra's Al Ghul. As a Suicide Squad member, Gray Ghost is credited with ending the career of The Batman.(Character by Chad Wilson) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Green Goblin (Norman Osborne)

One of Spider-Man’s most famous enemies, Osborne gained unusual strength, and chemically-induced delusions, via an experimental drug. Devising the persona of The Green Goblin, he employed such devices as a "goblin glider" and pumpkin-bombs. He was defeated, and lost his memory of his "Green Goblin" years, after a climactic battle with Spider-Man in 1950. Sent to a private institution to recover, he reverted to his insane persona in 1956 and launched an insidious scheme of diabolical revenge against all of his enemies, including Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Hobgoblin, in a mad attempt to "educate" his son, Harry. This incident, which came to be known as "The Goblin War," ended with Norman Osborne's defeat at the hands of Harry (Green Goblin II) and the Justice League. The Green Goblin escaped, however, and his current whereabouts are unknown. (See also Green Goblin II.)  [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Green Goblin II - Click name for full entry. [Aaron Einhorn]

The Green Hornet  (Britt Reid)

The great-nephew of John Reid (The Lone Ranger), Britt Reid is a crusading journalist; owner-publisher & Editor-in-Chief of Central City’s "Daily Sentinel". Alarmed at the disappearance of The Flash, Reid adopted the phony racketeer persona of The Green Hornet to smash the rackets from within. He is armed with a gas-gun, sonic "sting", and a multi-armed car called "Black Beauty". His most deadly weapon is his partner/chauffer: the martial-arts trained Kato. He has recently been inducted into The Suicide Squad, replacing the Spirit. Reid has of late entered into a very public affair with Modesty Blaise. (See also Kato) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Green Lantern Prime [Formerly known as Green Lantern and Sentinel] (Real Name: Alan Scott)
Earth super hero, New Genesis agent and co-founder of the Green Lantern Corps, Alan Scott started his miraculous career as the president of the prominent Gotham City radio station WXYZ when he came into possession of an ancient Chinese lantern that harnessed vast cosmic energies after a railroad accident in 1939. By reciting a mystical oath, Scott could infuse those energies within a magic ring, created from the lantern, for a period of 24 hours. The ring's only weakness was that its powers had no effect on anything made of wood, an incompatibility between the mystic forces of the lantern and the natural energies contained in wood. The Green Lantern (as he became known) became Gotham City's champion and was a founding member of the Justice Society of America. Through his adventures with the Justice Society, specifically during their battle with Ubermann and the Super Axis, Scott was contacted by a mysterious being called Metron who claimed to from another world called "New Genesis." Metron imparted knowledge of the source of the lantern's power and of the greater struggle between Order and Chaos raging in the galaxy. Seeing Scott's potential as a champion of Order, Metron allowed Scott to make contact with the Source, a vast repository of primal forces. In 1944, Green Lantern became known as Sentinel and left the Earth to defend justice throughout the galaxy. Later, during the Fourth Galactic War, he joined forces with The Guardians, a powerful race of beings inhabiting the planet Oa, and together they founded the multi-species, peace-keeping organization called the Green Lantern Corps.--based in part on Scott's earth persona--in an effort to turn the tide of the war against the forces of tyranny and evil.  Scott has since readopted his former title and is now known as Green Lantern Prime, the first and greatest of the Corps, and their nominal leader. He is believed to be currently spending much of his time in Shi'Ar space, supervising Lantern operations to assist Empress Lilandra in her efforts to stem the chaos and lawlessness that still grips her society. [Tom "Niko" Bolenbaugh]

*The Gremlin (Robert Walas) - Technocrat and former OSS agent, Walas was unable to sell his ideas to the military after the war, so he used them as a mercenary. He armed himself with a special suit which could allow three powers (one at a time): invisibility, insubstantiality, or a psychic blast. He was hired by The Brain to sabotage commercial airliners, and was finally defeated by Daredevil. He was released from Belle-Reve during "The Great Escape" and first sold his services to “The Perfect Crime Club,” building them an impressive mobile headquarters. When the Club quickly folded, Walas escaped capture and took his novel, traveling HQ with him. Recognizing its significant market value, Walas then sold the HQ to the highest bidder, which turned out to be the Red Skull’s Legion of Doom, and he began working for them. That organization was just as short-lived, however, and Walas was forced to flee yet again. His current whereabouts are unknown. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

As a child, Andre was orphaned in an incident involving violence. He remembers no details except a strange puzzle box in his father's hands, and lots of blood.  Raised by a family friend in Montmartre, Andre grew up fascinated by blood and violence. He became a regular at Le Grand Guignol.  As a young man he joined the Surete' and later entered the diplomatic corps. During the war, with the Nazi boot on France, Andre gained a weird mental abberration: he came to believe himself to be "the spirit of the guillotine made flesh, charged with punishing evil."  Donning a dark, sinister costume, Andre became Guillotine, a mysterious Resistance fighter whose signature attack was to decapitate his targets with twin Chinese butterfly knives. He then stamped the forehead of the decapitated head with a black seal suggesting a guillotine blade.  After the war, he continued working as a diplomat by day while ruthlessly fighting crime by night.  Heralded as a patriotic hero during the war, Guillotine is now wanted by French police as a dangerous vigilante.  Recruited into CURE, Andre serves the organization both via his diplomatic channels, and by his violent talents as Guillotine.  Guillotine is now a European auxilliary member of the Suicide Squad; one of the few members who still knows about CURE.  Guillotine has had the pleasure of claiming the head of the Iron Maiden. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Henry Peter Gyrich

Senior N.S.A. agent and special government liaison to the nationalized JLA by the Legion-contolled President Eisenhower. All other information is currently classified. [Ted Brengle]

H
Hardware (Ace Phillips) - Ace Phillips is a master engineer who decided to build a variety of strange weapons and become a supercriminal.  Hardware’s weapons all have a tool theme, such as flying saw blades or nail guns.  He is constantly (compulsively) changing his suit and weapons so heroes can never be able to fully anticipate what they will have to face when they encounter him.  He seems to be motivated simply by greed and recently became part of the Shadow Master’s plot to take over the New York underworld.  Through the Blueblood, he infiltrated the Donovan syndicate with Bombshell.  He was defeated by the Huntress and Daredevil and is currently in prison at Ryker’s Island.  [Tom "Nico" Bolenbaugh]

Harley Quinn (Dr. Harlene Quinzell) - When The Joker went to Arkham Asylum for a "vacation" after the Belle-Reve riots, he was handed over to young, pop-psychologist Harlene Quinzell for "recreational therapy". The somewhat "unstable" Harley became fascinated with the mad superhero, who grew fascinated with her as well. At one point he whimsically asked her for a blood sample, which she gave. Discovering she had the rare blood-element that would meld with a modified "Captain America" super-soldier serum, The Joker created the "Artemis pill" and persuaded Harley to leave Arkham and become his partner. To bolster her arsenal, Lex Luthor and Ted Knight developed a mandolin-shaped anti-grav device / sonic blaster which she calls the "Super Boinger". She and "Mr. J" married in 1954, and briefly crusaded in New Orleans, where they had honeymooned during Mardi-Gras. She and The Joker are now back in Gotham City. Despite being slowly poisoned by The Patchwork Man, she emerged from the recent war with him generally unscathed, save for a distinct and rather palpable dislike of Nick Fury and The Black Widow. In December 1956, she gave birth to a remarkable set of twins, John and Sarah. (Character created by Steve Mollett as an NPC, and further developed by Andrea Mollett as a PC) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Hawkgirl (Shayera Hol)

Shayera Hol was a detective on Thanagar, a job that ensured long, hard hours due to the high levels of crime on the world thanks to the poverty forced upon the planet by its crushing debt payments to The Network (a group whom she maintains a longstanding hatred for). One day while chasing a group of thieves, she was ambushed by them and attacked with the particle disassembler they had stolen. She was disintegrated and eventually the thieves were captured and sentenced for her murder. However, Shayera was far from dead.  The disassembler instead scattered her particles and sent them soaring across the galaxy where they were reassembled on Earth.  Confused and alone, Hawkgirl tried to adapt to her new situation.  Soon, she discovered the many heroes of Earth, both human and alien.  Instantly, she knew she had found a place on this planet. (Character adapted by Melissa Leeseberg) [Brandon Keller]

Heat Wave (Mick Rory) - As a child, Rory accidentally became locked in a meat freezer during a school field trip. The experience caused him to become obsessed with heat. Learning all he could about heat and fire, he briefly worked the carnies as a fire-eater & resistor called "Heat Wave". Inspired, he created an asbestos costume and a heat gun, and took up a life of crime. He fought The Flash several times, and was involved in the Belle-Reve riots. Under the new warden, Maxwell Lord, Rory received counseling and, after his release, became an important consultant on firefighting and fire-safety. His dedication in serving the public stems from a need to "repay" society for his former crimes. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Hellboy  - Click Name for full entry. [Jake Harrison]

The Heller Brothers, Anton and Burton - The classic good/bad twins. Both had stellar careers in medicine, but Burton eventually went mad and started killing; apparently in a jealous rage over his brother's humble nature in the face of success. After slashing 9 victims, he was put away in Champion City Prison for the Criminally Insane. Anton retired from medicine and the public eye and now tinkers in his workshop. He is fascinated with non-lethal weaponry and humane crowd-control devices. Due to Fugue's preservation of the timeline, in the mid-1990's, Anton Heller will present himself at a critical time in the formation of The Mystery Men. [Mike Chambers]

Bill Henderson - Police chief of Metropolis, and a close friend of The Blue Beetle. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

H.E.R.B.I.E. (Heuristic Electronic Reasoning Binary Intelligence Engine) - Somewhat over-ebullient A.I. that first served as the starship mainframe aboard humanity's first extra-solar vessel, the Argo, during the recent Zero Man-led expedition to Cholonu. Appraisals of H.E.R.B.I.E.’s performance during this, its first major field exercise, were somewhat mixed. H.E.R.B.I.E.'s creator, Dr. Reed Richards, has since placed the A.I. into a advanced robot body and given it to the JLA as a Christmas present. H.E.R.B.I.E. is programmed to help with monitor duty, perform housekeeping and maintence of the Hall of Justice, and even assist in missions when the need arrises.  [Ted Brengle]

Herman (Real Name: Unknown) - Semi-human, vampiric assistant of Dr. Otto Von Niemann. Killed by The Prowler. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Hiram - Mutated, intelligent, talking tortoise created in The Crimson Ghost’s lab. Formerly the JLA mascot, Hiram was killed by the Sentinels during their attack on JLA headquarters. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Hobgoblin (Real name: Unknown)
The Hobgoblin is allegedly a common burglar who discovered one of Norman Osborne’s old “Green Goblin” labs/hideouts, and who used the technology to start his own super-criminal career. Never apprehended, but frequently thwarted, The Hobgoblin battled Spider-Man, and continues an on-and-off war with Daredevil. His greatest enemies, however, are the two Green Goblins, Norman and Harry Osborne. Norman Osborne, the first Green Goblin, considers Hobgoblin to be a pathetic pretender to the throne, while his son Harry (Green Goblin II) sees the Hobgoblin as a continuation of his father's legacy of evil, which Harry has dedicated himself to ending. The Hobgoblin was a major loser in the recent "Goblin War." Through Norman Osborne's cunning manipulation, the Hobgoblin's criminal organization was pitted against the Justice League and soundly crushed. It was briefly believed that the Hobgoblin, himself, might have also died in this conflict--having last been seen at the heart of a gigantic explosion that destroyed his warehouse lair--but he turned up two months later, taking part in Nathaniel Dusk's plot to gain control of both The Kingpin's organization and members of the JLA. After a pitched aerial battle with his arch-enemy, Green Goblin II, the Hobgoblin's glider was heavily damaged and  Hobgoblin crashed--hard--into the street outside the Fiske Building. Green Goblin II watched every second of his foe's descent and the following explosion. Considering that body parts were later successfully recovered from the crash scene, even the most jaded believed that Hobgoblin really was dead this time. And indeed he was, but that didn't stop him from coming back either. (See DemoGoblin) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Lee Sun Hoc - Lee Sun Hoc is the leader of the Triad gang known as the Yellow Dragon Society.  They control all the heroin and opium traffic coming in from China to New York’s Chinatown, as well as prostitution and slavery.  Hoc is an elderly Chinese man who is greatly feared and respected and whose organization was largely untouched by the Kingpin’s control.  Hoping to expand outside of Chinatown, he forged an alliance with the Donovan syndicate in a bid to topple the Kingpin, unknowingly becoming a pawn of the Shadow Master.  Indeed, Lee’s two chief enforcers, the Red Lotus and the White Cobra, eventually allied themselves directly with the Shadow Master. Wanting extra muscle against the Kingpin, Lee also hired the Japanese supervillain Mt. Fuji, but by the time Mt. Fuji arrived, the Shadow Master’s plot had collapsed and Fuji returned to Japan.  Lee Sun Hoc still heads the Yellow Dragon Society, but it is rumored that the Kingpin now has a hand in their activities, the price of survival after their failure in the mob war. [Tom "Nico" Bolenbaugh]

Sherlock Holmes - A very old bee-keeper from Sussux, who was called out of retirement by John Drake to take part in The Taskforce as #7, "The Detective." He is also rumored to have been a member of the final iteration of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, England's top secret superteam. If true, perhaps something he encountered during one of the League's adventures accounts for his amazing longevity. [Ted Brengle]

Hotstreak (Francis Stone)

Hotstreak was the leader of the teen gang know as the Sharks in Gotham until the JLA busted up the gang.  Hotstreak managed to escape.  He is 15 and possesses the ability to create fire and transform his body into a flame form. [Chad Wilson]

Hourman - Click here for full entry. [Aaron Einhorn]

Lance Hunt - Soda jerk who idolizes the JLA, though DD's initial blow-off of the kid made him realize that heroes aren't necessarily nice people, and can have their own agendas. This leads him to eventually sell out as Captain Amazing; a mistake that gets him in fatal trouble with his arch-nemesis. [Mike Chambers]

The Huntress - Click name for full entry. [Christina McMenemy & Aaron Einhorn]

I
Iceman (Bobby Drake) - One of Prof. Xavier’s earliest students, Bobby can generate ice to configurations of his choosing, and can matter-surf on the ice he generates. (Character adapted by Jake Harrison) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Invisible Agent (Captain Frank Griffin) - Nephew of the infamous Dr. Jack Griffin (The Invisible Man). Frank offered to use his uncle’s modified formula to make himself an invisible espionage agent. British Army Intelligence accepted. Griffin fought behind enemy lines on several missions, ending with the battle with The Dragon King in 1945. A dying Griffin managed to obtain the Spear of Destiny and deliver it to Allied hands, paving the way for the metahuman assault on Berlin. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Iron Colonel Stormfront (Real Name: Unknown) - Little is known about the Iron Colonel Stormfront. He was (presumably) an ex-Nazi officer who commanded an elite mercenary force of former SS troopers. The Iron Colonel Stormfront was an imposing figure who wore body armor, steel gauntlets and a steel skull helmet, while also possessing formidable fighting and weapons skills. He provided the manpower for Magneto's attack on a US nuclear missile base, but after Magneto left the Colonel's troops behind to die in an atomic explosion (prevented by the JLA), the Colonel confronted Magneto. Magneto revealed that he was a Jewish Auschwitz survivor and that his intention was to use Stormfront and his troops as disposable pawns. Colonel Stormfront attacked Magneto, who crushed the Colonel's iron gauntlets and skull faceplate, grievously injuring him. Although thought to have been killed, the Colonel fled the the destruction of Magneto's flying fortress in an escape pod, where he was found by a race of debased, humanoid mer-men who worshipped him as a god. Seeking revenge against Magneto, the Iron Colonel enlisted the aid of the subterranean tyrant The Warlord and attacked Magneto's secret undersea base. After imprisoning Magneto and successfully taking command of the base's strange, alien technology, the Iron Colonel turned his attention to the mainland. These dreams of conquest were short-lived, however, thanks to timely intervention by the JLA. As the Iron Colonel Stormfront was recently moved from Belle-Reve to a prison in Switzerland in anticipation of his trial for crimes against humanity, he is actually still incarcerated. [Tom "Niko" Bolenbaugh]

Iron Cross - During the northern crusades in Lithuania and Russia, the Germanic Teutonic Knights forged a mystical talisman, a Teutonic cross which could animate a suit of armor when placed around its neck. The animated warrior was relentless, untiring, super strong, and nearly invulnerable. Legends state that the medallion was finally lost during the 13th century, after the Teutonic Knights disastrous defeat by Russian forces under Alexander Nevsky. In the early 1940s, German forces had somehow recovered the cross and used it to animate a Tiger tank. The resulting behemoth was named Iron Cross and fought alongside the Super Axis in a titanic battle against Stonewall. Eventually, with the aid of the Gecko, it was discovered that the cross itself was the monster's only weakness. The golden age Red Knight thrust his flaming sword into the cross, destroying the automation's body. Stonewall hurled the medallion itself into the ocean and it has not been seen since. [Tom "Niko" Bolenbaugh]

The Iron Maiden (Real Name: Unknown)

Steel-armored mercenary who fought T.H.U.N.D.E.R. for years, but who was in love with Dynamo (Len Brown; see T.H.U.N.D.E.R.). She was hired by Dusk as a member of Labyrinth, and incarcerated in Belle-Reve. She was freed by the U.S. government during the Legion Crisis, given the new name "Lady Liberty", along with appropriate modifications to the appearance of her armor, and inducted into the new "Justice League." A front-line combatant during The Battle For D.C., she was returned to Belle-Reve shortly afterward. She was freed during "The Great Escape" and was soon after enlisted by the Warlords and HYDRA for their latest campaign to overthrow the world. This time her luck finally ran out, however, and she was killed by the new Suicide Squad operative, Guillotine, during the climactic battle in her employer's underground base. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Izaya the Highfather - Enigmatic leader of the paradise-like world/dimension of New Genesis. He is currently imprisoned, alongside Darkseid, in the Great Wall of The Source. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

J
Johnny Jackson (AKA "Johnny the Bootblack") -  Info broker of Central City. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Ferik Jaggar - Young S.S. officer who was groomed to succeed Heinrich Himmler. When the war was deemed lost, Himmler ordered Jaggar to fly a one-man plane to Tokyo, and lay low with Germany’s Axis cohorts until the tide turned. As he flew over Manchuria, Nationalist Chinese anti-aircraft fire disabled the plane, causing it to finally crash-land in Tibet. Jaggar was taken in by the Tulku, who had previously trained The Wraith. He failed to turn the mind of this new pupil, however, and was murdered by Jaggar. Now armed with the power to cloud minds, Jaggar began assembling a 4th Reich contingent of stealth-commandos, called "Nighttroopers". Jaggar was contacted by Murder Legendre, who now worked closely with the "rescued" brain of Dr. Otto Von Niemann. Using Legendre’s zombification techniques, Von Niemann’s mind-commands, and Jaggar’s mind-clouding, the group created invisible "Deathtroopers" to break down defenses in the U.S. and U.S.S.R. In the process, Jaggar’s men freed Krystalnacht from the White House cornerstone. The Black Dragon, the final creation of Gustav Niemann (Otto’s older brother) also served the new 4th Reich strike force. The JLA foiled the plan, and The Wraith had Jaggar committed to an asylum run by one of his agents. An "emergency lobotomy" removed the part of Jaggar’s prefrontal lobe that governed psychic powers. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

J. Jonah Jameson

Nasty-tempered, mask-hating Editor-in-Chief of New York City’s "Daily Bugle." Jameson employed Peter Parker, and still hates Spider-Man with a passion, despite the hero's apparent retirement. Now he employs Eddie Brock, and his current favorite targets are Venom and ElectroGirl. The first "J" in his name undoubtedly stands for "Jerk". [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Emil Jerrod  - Oceanographic magnate in Hub City who sought to make illicit gains in the stock market by kidnapping corporate CEOs, and buying the stock when the "shock" caused the company’s stock-prices to drop (investers thought the CEOs were "bugging out" for financial reasons). To throw police off the trail, Jerrod contrived the device of immersing his victims in a yacht-deck pool filled with seawater and flesh-eating diatoms. The denuded skeletons would be left in the city, causing police to look for some mad, "Jack-the-Ripper" style serial killer. Fortunately, only one victim suffered this fate, as Jerrod was stopped by the combined efforts of The Joker & Harley Quinn, Daredevil, and The Blue Beetle. One of Jerrod’s henchmen is in Hub City Prison; the other fell victim to the diatoms. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Jimmy Shortround (James Sorski)
Small time Yancy Street hustler and numbers runner, Sorski was the "brains" behind The Penny Ante Gang and The Fearsome Foursome. Despite his grandiose, hopeless dreams to someday make The Big Score, he engendered fierce loyalty from his wife Sue and friends Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm. Indeed, Grimm and Storm could have cut a deal for reduced jail time in connection to their disastrous attempt to rob The First National Bank of Hub City had they agreed to testify against James--who had came up with the idea of the heist in the first place. For his part, James was determined to repay them both when they got out of jail. While throwing them a welcome home party at his apartment, a meteor charged with cosmic ray crashed through the ceiling. This incident gave them all metahuman powers. James, for example, gained the ability to shrink himself and anything he touched. Seeing this as the big break they had all been waiting for, James quickly talked his wife and friends into forming a super villain team, The Fearsome Foursome. Since they would be the only Supers in Hub City, James was confident that their new careers would be simple and safe. Unfortunately their careers were neither, as James' first act as leader was to agree to work for Dr. Hieronymous Joy, who had no qualms about using The Fearsome Foursome as cannon fodder. Even after the FF had been routed by the JLA, James still believed that working for Joy would guarantee The Big Score. It was this blind faith that eventually got his wife and best friend, Ben Grimm, killed. Shortly after being sentenced to 15 years in Belle-Reve, representatives from Legion's corrupt government offered Sorski and his comrade Johnny Storm secret pardons in return for their services in hunting down other metahumans. Sorski agreed to help and talked Johnny Storm into joining, as well. Sorski escaped his handlers soon afterward, however, leaving Storm in the clutches of the government. Although many reports indicate Sorski is currently operating out of Gotham City, he recently attacked the Baxter Building in New York in a poorly planned effort to rescue his wife, Sue. This effort ended in a farcical disaster for Sorski that was made even worse by the revelation that Sue didn't actually need or desire rescuing, and that she had, in fact, outgrown him at long last. How Sorski will react to his wife's decision is anyone's guess. (See also: The Dragon, Emerald Web, Thud and The Fearsome Foursome.) [Ted Brengle]

Jingle Belle (Jenny Bale)
The cousin of Harley Quinn, Jenny was widely known in the family as "the flaky one," her inferiority complex and obsession with Christmas eventually leading her to become a yuletide-themed menace. As a child, she and Harlene had terrible slap fights over which was better--Christmas or Hanukah--much of the tension stemming from Jenny's mother's shrill exclamations of "Why can't you be more like your cousin Harlene?!" whenever Jenny screwed up (which was often). Later, as an adult, Jenny was thrown out of Gotham State's physics program her sophomore year after she again spent all her time decorating her dorm room for Christmas instead of studying for her finals. Pitying her, Harley had her husband pull some stings to got her a job as a secretary at Gotham's branch of STAR Labs. Jenny led a nondescript life for several years, but her resentment toward Harley finally erupted when Harley became pregnant. While at Harley's baby shower, Jenny pilfered two of her cousin's Artemis pills, certain that she could make something more of herself if she "had all the brakes" her cousin had. At home, she took the pill. While the Artemis formula did for Jenny work thanks to her genetic structure being similar to her cousin's, it wasn't a perfect fit and there were serious side effects. Thus while Jenny gained heightened strength, endurance, agility and a genius level IQ, she also became mentally deranged and even more emotionally unstable. Now a brilliant borderline psychotic, Jenny christened herself Jingle Belle and was determined to spread Christmas cheer in Gotham and make sure that everyone was merry... through any means necessary. Taking control of The Santa Gang and equipping them with high tech weapons derived from designs stolen from STAR Labs, she masterminded a crime spree pattered after the 12 days of Christmas to fund her schemes, which climaxed in her using a illusion/mind control device, designed by the Mad Hatter and powered by an incredible powerful mystical artifact known as a Dreamstone, to replace Gotham City with a unbearably happy Christmas Land, where those who were not merry were pressed into compulsory service making toys. Luckily  the JLA--despite working under the handicap of having thier minds swapped with each other by another of the Mad Hatter's contraptions--were able to defeat Jingle Belle, deactivate the device and prevent her twisted vision of Christmas from spreading any further. She has now been committed to Arkham Asylum, where she spends much of her time in a padded cell singing Christmas carols and ploting revenge on her cousin. [Ted Brengle]

The Joker (formerly Jack Napier Jr.)

Jack Napier Jr., heir to the National Playing Card Co., tried to stop extortionists from vandalizing the factory. He was shot through the face and fell into a chemical waste vat. The chemicals altered Jack’s physiology and the bullet wound severed the resorius nerves. Looking like a sinister clown, the unhinged Jack became The Joker, a mad vigilante bent on battling the rackets of Gotham City. Backed by his father, Jack Napier Sr., and his sister, Janice, The Joker created an oceanside hideout (the "Fun House") and several crimefighting devices and vehicles, all built on a clown / joke theme. Very resilient and flexible, The Joker must mainline the same industrial waste that altered him every 24 hours…or die. In 1942 he visited Arkham Asylum for a "vacation" and fell in love with his therapist: Dr. Harlene Quinzell. She soon became his partner, "Harley Quinn", and they married in 1954, briefly crusading in New Orleans, where they had honeymooned during Mardi-Gras. He and Harely have since returned to Gotham City. The Joker and Harley are now proud parents of two very interesting children, John and Sarah. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Dr. Henry Jones Jr.

Prominent professor of archeology at Empire State University. Quite well-versed in occult antiquities. Apparently very fond of hands-on field work. A recent conversation with the Amazing Ghost Fighter indicates that he might have some good stories about the hunt for ancient artifacts (including the Spear of Destiny) before and during World War II. [Ted Brengle]

Dr. Hieronymous Joy - A brilliant scientist and theoretician, Joy was one of the world's leading experts in the field of metahuman studies and the associated fields of parapsychology and advanced physics. Joy held a tenured position at MIT, but also worked as a consultant to both the United States government and private sector companies such as Lexcorp and Stark Industries (where he was a part of the team that analyzed the Red Knight armor). Joy developed (along with Dr. Philip Koepp) the Koepp-Joy Protocols classifying metahuman abilities in 1947 and his study on human psionics with Annette Rosenberg won him a Nobel prize a year later. His pleasantly scattered demeanor, frizzy white hair and ever-present bow-tie struck everyone who knew him as charming, and Joy was quite popular with both peers and students. No one ever suspected that he was a sociopath. Joy lusted after knowledge at any cost and became obsessed with finding the links between quantum theory, "magic" and psionics. In the course of his research, Joy delved into much forbidden lore and eventually made contact with the entity known as Legion using an ancient Ouija board modified with weird technology of Joy's own design. Finding Legion a kindred spirit (literally), the two soon devised a complicated plot that would prove "entertaining" for Legion while also providing Joy unparalleled access to magical artifacts and the opportunity to use them to finally construct a mammothly destructive (but endlessly fascinating) device Joy had designed to prove all of his pet theories. Luckily for Hub City, this device and its creator were destroyed right before activation by the JLA. [Ted Brengle]

The Judge (Harvey Dent) - A mysterious vigilante operating in Gotham City. Little is known about him save that he wears a black judge's robe, barrister's wig and a stylized bronze Janus mask, reminiscent of Greek drama. He employs some sort of chemical agent that causes those exposed to it to experience crippling feelings of guilt and remorse. Only The Joker knows that his true identity is Harvey Dent, Gotham's crusading D.A. (now in more ways than one).  [Ted Brengle]

K
Kali (Dipti Patel) - Supernaturally-powered Thuggi priestess. Patel could literally become the avatar of Kali at will, increasing in size and power; and gaining extra arms, complete with supernatural swords. Patel joined the Axis organization "Pentacle" for the power benefits offered the Thuggi cult, but wound up in Belle-Reve after the "Innsmouth Operation" was discovered and terminated by the JSA. She was involved in the Belle-Reve Riots, and was eventually deported back to India. Her current status is unknown. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Kara (Kara Dollison) - "Meta Avenger" with batlike wings and a reputed ability to corrode flesh at the touch. An absolute pacifist, she could never align herself with Magneto’s methods to help the meta community, and so abandoned him. Her current whereabouts are unknown. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Karate Speedster (Andrew Groves) - Andrew has supernatural powers of speed.  He is a young man with blonde hair who wears a karate outfit and mask while acting as The Karate Speedster. In his first encounter with the JLA, he attacked Geni-Cide by judo throwing her until she went berserk . That was a mistake. [Chad Wilson]

Kato (Ikano Kato)

Japanese martial artist who works with The Green Hornet in Central City. Rescued from drowning by Britt Reid, Kato owed him a life-debt, which he has since repaid many times over. Pretending to be Reid’s "gentleman’s gentleman", Kato actually stays in Central City to continue as The Green Hornet’s "mysterious chauffer." Both agree that The Green Hornet couldn’t function effectively without Kato’s immeasurable contribution to the crusade. Kato and his employer have recently joined forces with The Suicide Squad. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Senator William Keene (Dem. Massachusetts) - United States senator who argued that modern masked vigilantes were the fascistic conceptual descendants of the Ku Klux Klan. Viewing these vigilantes as dangerous, unaccountable fanatics who wantonly trampled civil liberties and perverted the criminal justice system, the Senator drafted the Keene Act during the Legion Crisis, forcing law enforcement to take a harder line against them. He was murdered by agents of Legion masquerading as vigilante metahumans shortly before the act's passage to build public support for an even more sweeping and draconian version of it. [Ted Brengle]

Senator Robert Kelly (Repub. New York)

Once-respected United States senator who has long believed that metahumans pose a threat to America and the world and need to be strictly regulated for the safety of all humanity. An unwitting dupe of Legion's criminal government, he was instrumental in putting together the Sentinel hunter/killer robot program. Although he survived The Battle For D.C., his chances of re-election do not look particularly good at present. Despite Kelly being an incumbent, the New York GOP did everything it could to deliver the party's nomination to someone else and, earlier this year, state assemblyman Gregg Hartmann defeated Kelly in a quickly arranged primary. Having lost the Republican nomination to Hartmann, Kelly is now running as an Independent. Looking to create a highly-visable wedge issue, Kelly has jumped on "The Great Escape" fiasco with both feet, becoming one of the loudest voices critical of Maxwell Lord, all in the hopes of keeping his campaign alive. So far, it hasn't taken. [Ted Brengle]

Professor Julius Kelp

Nerdy scientist and caretaker for the JSA's Metropilis Observatory headquarters.  Dr. Kelp died of a heart attack in 1947, shortly before the JSA disbanded. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Kingpin (Albert Fiske)

Stocky and powerful boss of New York City’s crime syndicate. The Kingpin is mentally sharp and, despite his ponderous appearance, a quick and deadly opponent in a physical fight. The Kingpin has had a very rough year so far, only barely escaping two significant threats to his criminal empire. The first being the NoMan orchestrated mob war that cost his organization millions. Then, Kingpin's own scheme for revenge against those who had acted against him during the mob war, using a variety of metahuman villains freed from Belle-Reve and Arkham Asylum, nearly ended with Labyrinth taking over his entire organisation after Kingpin was double-crossed by Mirror Master on the orders of his true employer, Nathaniel Dusk. Fiske owes the continued existence of both his business and himself solely to the efforts of the Justice League; a fact he finds very, very dispiriting. Meanwhile, the New York underworld is currently bracing for a purge of nearly biblical proportions. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Stanley Kirkpatrick - Former police commissioner of New York City. Kirkpatrick was deposed and jailed for fixing the "Super Axis" reports to blame The Prowler for the murders of several police officers (actually killed by Krystalnacht). He was replaced by Harold W. Smith. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Klaatu (Ned Brundle) -"Meta Avenger" with phenomenal intelligence, telepathy and cyberkinetic powers. He is currently confined in the new ‘Juvenile’ wing of Belle-Reve. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Ted Knight  - Scientific genius and chief technician of S.T.A.R. Labs. Frequently working alongside Lexcorp and Stark Industries, Knight’s discoveries have broadened the scope of physics. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

*Alexander Knox

Unctuous, wise-guy, sleaze-loving, scandal-merchant investigative reporter for The Gotham Globe, who is nevertheless quite effective at his job. He was the first to take seriously the reports of a "frightening, crime-fighting clown," for instance. More recently, he’s become convinced that Gotham D.A. Harvey Dent is “too good to be true” and is hiding some big scandal that “the voters of Gotham have a right to know about.” Whether Knox is a paid agent of the mob or just a prick who likes to cause trouble is unclear, but he’s recently gone to some pretty unsavory ends to dig up dirt on Dent—including paying for incriminating papers stolen from his house--and the circumstances of Dent’s recent disappearance and reappearance (nearly pecked to death by birds and the JLA covering for him) has played right into Knox’s hands. Needless to say, he’s also been beating the drum about the “dangerous deception of Batman,” as well, and making dark insinuations about “arrangements” between Gotham’s “so-called heroes” and the criminals “they claim to hunt.” That said, Knox really doesn’t have much to offer beyond snide surmises and innuendo. For now. [Ted Brengle]

Kristallnacht - Another product of Nazi occult experiments, Kryitallnacht was inspired by the existence of Uncle Sam. The Nazis captured all the negative psychic energies released during the Kristallnacht pogram and used it to create a being of shattered glass and pure evil. Kristallnacht was extremely resistant to physical attacks, being completely composed of glass shards. He was finally defeated in a battle against Uncle Sam, The Prowler, and the golden age Red Knight, who's flaming sword was able to melt Kristallnacht's glass body into one mass. Uncle Sam had the solidified nightmare imprisoned in the cornerstone of the White House. Years later a group of former Nazi terrorists freed Kristallnacht to help them in their nefarious plots. He was defeated again by Zero-Man who's force sword returned Kristallnacht to his frozen state. Kristallnacht's form is now hidden on an asteroid somewhere in orbit. The location is known only to Zero-Man, who routinely checks to make sure it has not been disturbed. [Tom "Niko" Bolenbaugh]

L
Lady Luck (Brenda Banks)

Wealthy, young Ashton City widow turned crimefighter. A thrillseeker, she has recently joined the ranks of Suicide Squad for "fun." (Character created by Ashley Smith) [Ted Brengle]

Lois Lane

Ace reporter for "The Daily Planet", the dedicated Miss Lane is prone to trouble, and has a thinly disguised crush on The Blue Beetle. Lane was arrested for sedition during the Legion Crisis due to her refusal to back off an investigative report critical of the corrupt government. When the Blue Beetle learned of a plan to murder her while she was in federal custody, he broke into the penitentiary where she was being held and rescued her. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Murder Legendre

Haitian zombie-master who has often allied with other n’er-do-wells (Nazis included) and was The Prowler’s chief nemesis. He has since decided to pit himself against The Amazing Ghost Fighter. He opened hostilities by contacting the evil entity known as Legion and supplying it with information on Ghost Fighter's family. He also quietly stalked Ghost Fighter's sister, Mary, for years, tracking her to New Orleans and watching her new life from the shadows. Building a formidable power base of his own in New Orleans, he and his apprentice, the voodoo priestess Eliza Genevieve, wielded a shocking amount of influence over New Orleans. All the while, Legendre waited patently for the legendary Blood Diamond to be found, which would allow him to to syphon away Mary's significant life energies for his own magical uses. While waiting, Legendre found other amusements, such as imprisoning the Earth's current earth elemental and trying to access the primal living essence of the planet through him. These diabolical experiments were ended by the Amazing Ghost Fighter, Dante, Green Goblin II, Matilda Fortune and Captain Marvel. Thanks to them, Legendre was served a smarting defeat; his lair was destroyed, his large collection of precious soul jars was shattered, his apprentice was apprehended, and he himself only barley escaped capture. Driven from North America and forced to find respite in his more traditional strongholds, Legendre is the weakest he has been in a very long time, and does not relish the experience. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Legion (Real Name: Unknown) - A being of pure thought, Legion's origins are mysterious, but it's generally believed that Legion is the current form of a set of human simese twins who delved too deeply into Things Man Was Not Meant To Know and became something.... other. Whether these twins were always irredeemably evil, or if thier minds only became warped and debased after the transformation is unknown and largely moot. For its part, Legion spoke little of its past, concentrating instead on the moment and its desperate pursuit of exciting new "entertainments," which it sampled first-hand by "jumping" into and possessing human hosts. The few former hosts still alive report vivid memories of these mental dominations and an invading mind both unearthly cold and pathologically solipsistic. What little information that does exist on this entity comes almost solely from these survivors, which explains why Legion always attempted to kill its old hosts with heart attacks as it "jumped" into new ones. Because of this ruthlessness, it is impossible to know how long Legion was active, although it is believed that the necromancer Murder Legendre first became aware of Legion's activities no later than 1954--not surprising considering that both Legion and Legendre frequented the same dark corners of the paranormal world. Soon after, Legendre learned of Legion's desire to begin inhabiting metahumans for the novelty their powers would provide. As Legendre suspected that close relatives of his own enemy, The Amazing Ghost Fighter, might have submerged metahuman abilities, Legendre quickly passed this information on to Legion with his compliments. This information formed the basis of Legion's most cunning and terrifying plan ever. Legion inhabited the President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower, for almost half a year and the damage he inflicted on the country and the world is still being calculated. Legion was torn free of the President and destroyed in late 1955 through the combined efforts of Mentalon, Phoenix, Uncle Sam, Blue Beetle and The Amazing Ghost Fighter. [Ted Brengle]

Lightstorm (Dr. Christopher Lux) - Little is known of this metahuman criminal, who can transform himself into a raging, amazingly destructive vortex of swirling energy, sometimes under his conscious control, sometimes not. Once a physicist, whose current state is suspected of being the result of a failed experiment,  Lux  is obsessed with obtaining radioactive materials. After he was “scattered” by a giant prism wielded by the Red Knight in 1951, Lightstorm was not seen again until The Battle For D.C., fighting alongside Legion's forces. He was defeated by the shadow powers of the Wraith and seemingly destroyed, but few people actually believe that he is really gone. [Ted Brengle]

Lilandra

Supreme Majestrix of the Shi'Ar Empire. Lilandra came to power after leading a coup against her brother, the "Mad Emperor" D'Ken, when it became abundantly clear that the Shi'Ar would not survive his reign. Lilandra has since shown herself to be a forceful, pragmatic, but also compassionate leader. In rebuilding the empire, she is relying on considerable aid from the Green Lantern Corps, although she no longer fully trusts them after learning that one of their number, Sinestro, helped D'Ken escape capture. Politically, Lilandra has forged a coalition government that seems stable for now, but she still has much work ahead of her. [Ted Brengle]

Lobo

Star-spanning, hard-nosed assassin and space-biker who first encountered humanity when he landed on the roof of The Gotham Towers to do "hog repair". He pounded Blue Beetle down through the building for kicking over his bike, then went about his business. Also one of the many bounty hunters on the trail of Zero Man just prior to the signing of the peace accord that ended the Fourth Galactic War, Lobo was last seen beating the hell out of confused bar patrons on a frontier world of the Shi'Ar Empire.  [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Lock-Up (Lyle Bolton)

Lyle Bolton worked at Belle-Reve Penitentiary as a guard. While a meathuman himself with enormous strength, great jumping ability and very dense flesh, he resented having these powers and enjoyed working within the prison's Nullifier field.  After "The Great Escape," Bolton was laid off.  No longer working under the Nullifier Field, his super strength and resistance to damage kicked backed in. Unable to adjust to civilian life, he spent his newly found free time developing new styles of handcuffs, and practicing using a short length of Naval anchor chain as a melee weapon. He has now taken the name Lock-Up and has launched a brutal crusade against crime. He first appeared in Metropolis, and then in Gotham during the very brief reign of terror caused by the Atomic Armadillo.  His methods are highly violent and he has been placed on notice by Venom, who has tried to convince him that attacking criminals not in the act of a crime is wrong. Lock-Up disagrees. [Chad Wilson]

Maxwell Lord - Former T.H.U.N.D.E.R. operative who survived the Patchwork Man’s purge, as by that time he was appointed as the Warden of Belle-Reve (replacing Dr. Edgar Parker). He still serves in that post, though he no longer has a T.H.U.N.D.E.R. to report to. As the biggest jailbreak in human history happened during his watch, many expected he would not be able to maintain that post, but the official Congressional investigation that followed eventually cleared Lord and his staff of any actionable negligence or wrongdoing. "The Great Escape" scandal (and calls for Lord's resignation) are now beginning to die down, despite the efforts of several politicians to milk the controversy for their own political advancement. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Lex Luthor

Scientific genius and industrialist who served as an Army Intelligence officer during the war. His Lexcorp is the largest company in Metropolis, and he was the primary patron of the first JLA. He has been awarded temporary custody of Jimmy Reese (Mighty Mouse). One of the founding members of The Taskforce, he introduced Archie Goodwin to John Drake, an old friend from his Military Intelligence days, and served the group as #2, "The Financier." Luthor oversaw the worldwide economic assault on The Patchwork Man's financial network that began the recent campaign against him. While on The Taskforce, he also learned that the only reason Ubermann had joined the Nazis was due to the machinations of the Patchwork Man. In early 1957, with the help of Ted Knight and the Phantom Stranger, Luthor briefly reopened a portal to the Phantom Zone and freed Ubermann. Luthor hoped that Kurtz would be the charter member of a new Justice League Europe, but Kurtz rejected the offer and said he simply wanted to go home. Needless to say, Luthor's actions have proved to be very controversial. For a time, Captain America refused to speak to him, but they have since reconciled. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]
