Mary MacAllister - The long-lost sister of The Amazing Ghost Fighter, Mary ran away from home at the age of 16, blaming herself and the strain of having to take care of her for her brother Daniel's sudden departure and her brother David's slow slide into the life of a petty criminal. Taking only her father's trumpet with her, Mary was determined to leave her old life and its pain behind her. A musical prodigy, Mary hoped to make a career out of her lifelong love of jazz, but quickly found that opportunities for women jazz trumpeters, no matter how supremely talented, were absolutely nonexistent. Mary then did, in her words, "what any good jazz musician would: Improvise." Cutting her hair and buying men's clothes, she fashioned a male identity as Mark Melody. She managed to pass convincingly after some practice and was able to eke out a marginal living as a jazz player in New Orleans, where sexual ambiguity isn't quite as shocking. During this time, she was actually quite happy, although news reports of her brother David's actions as Epsilon were a stinging blast from the past. Mary could not believe that David would kill anyone and wanted more than anything for it all to go away. One night she had a strange dream where she got her wish: She saw the two people David had killed in a lab somewhere and watched them enveloped by a brilliant white light, after which they started to breath again. When she later heard that Sue Sorski and Ben Grimm were actually alive, she thought it just a strange coincidence. The Amazing Ghost Fighter is not nearly as convinced, as Mary also somehow healed him completely after a portion of his life essence was stolen by the Blood Diamond. Mary's reunion with her brother Daniel (AGF) has not been without trauma, however, in fact it has turned her entire life upside-down. Ghost Fighter has demanded that she return with him to Gotham City, and as this came right after she was kidnapped and almost sacrificed on an Aztec altar by Murder Legendre, she was in no mood to argue. Looking on the bright side, she realized that if there is any city in America that knows about the Blues, it would have to be Gotham. Mary was placed under the protection of The Joker, while her brother assembled his army to make the world safe for what was left of their family. While he was away, she was approached by The Taskforce and asked if she would take the risk of carrying a special scanning device that would record a sample of The Patchwork Man's psionic teleport signature, as they knew he would inevitably strike at her brother through her. She agreed, and when Harley Quinn hovered near death from a week's worth of tainted maraschino cherries poisoned by The Patchwork Man, he appeared to tell Mary that even with considerably healing powers, the poison was corrupting her D.N.A., and Mary would have to use every ounce of her own life energy if she wanted to save her and the twins. Mary immediately saved Harley's life and hovered near death. Luckily, The Taskforce was monitoring the situation and immediately dispatched a medical team that saved her life. She is currently still recovering from her ordeal, but is in good spirits and is understandably quite proud of her small, but vital role in defeating one of the greatest threats the world has ever known. At her own request, she is finishing her convalescence at Gotham General Hospital so she can be close to her brother, David, who still languishes in a coma there. [Ted Brengle]

Conn MacCleary

Conn "Mac" MacCleary was a Korean War vet who became a late, but very effective, field agent for T.H.U.N.D.E.R.  He teamed with Harold W. Smith and others to create CURE, and is second in command after Smith. He lost his left arm to a mine in Korea, and has a sophisticated, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. issue prosthetic created by Dr. Anthony "NoMan" Dunn. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Dr. Ronald MacDonnell - President, Professor Emeritus, Central City Clown College. [Mike Chambers]

Mack The Knife (Real Name: Mackie Goeth) - One of the earliest examples of metahumans in Hitler's service. A member of the S.S. and nightmarishly accurate with his throwing knives, which could penetrate just about anything and which he could wish into his hand at will, Mack The Knife worked as a spy for many years until he fought the Red Knight in late 1939. When Mack The Knife was arrested, the German government--which wasn't yet at war with America--denied any knowledge of his actions and left him to rot in jail. As of 1956, Goeth still had 18 years to serve on his sentence in America for espionage, and when that was up, France, Poland, Russia and England all requested that he be extradited to face further charges. Unfortunately, he, too, was freed during "The Great Escape." While his current whereabouts are unknown, the Israeli national super team, run by the Mossad, is already rumored to be in the U.S. with orders that Goeth never be allowed to injure anyone ever again. [Ted Brengle]

The Mad Hatter (Jervis Tetch)

Mad technologist obsessed with Lewis Carroll’s "Alice" stories and hats. The Mad Hatter plots revenge against his greatest enemy: The Joker. Tetch was returned to Arkham Asylum after escaping and creating much mayhem in concert with Batman and Dr. Henry Pym. Recently, however, he was freed by Mirror Master during "The Great Escape." He was immediately recruited for Nathaniel Dusk's new Labyrinth and co-designed (with Mirror Master) mind control mirrors with which Kingpin tried to ensnare members of the JLA. This plan failed, but the Mad Hatter escaped capture and was believed to be working in earnest on Nathaniel Dusk's next insidious scheme. He was next encountered (and apprehended) in Metropolis. While in Arkham, the Hatter struck up a friendship with Dr. Hugo Strange, as the Hatter had become fascinated by the potential of magic, thanks to his experiences with Nathaniel Dusk, and wanted to learn more. Strange told him of two of his most prized possessions; the Dreamstones, powerful magical artifacts that were said to have the ability to warp both mind and reality. The Hatter then escaped from Arkham, made his way to Strange's house in upstate New York where Strange had hid the Dreamstones, and wasted no time weaponizing them. His first Dreamstone-powered device successfully swapped the minds of many members on the JLA as a perverse Christmas gift to keep them distracted while he worked on his true goal: Using the second Dreamstone as the core of a massive mind control/illusion machine that would turn Gotham City into Wonderland! Unfortunately, while breaking into Star Labs to steal the gold and platinum field coils large enough to channel the energy the device needed, he ran into Jingle Belle trying to steal the same thing, albeit simply because they were gold and corresponded to the requirements of her own personal insanity. As Belle was blond and petite (and crazy as a loon), the Hatter was enamored with her and thought he might have finally found his Alice. Instead she stole his plans and left him frozen inside a giant snow globe. Found by the Justice League, has again been returned to Arkham Asylum. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

*The Mad Thinker (Real name: Unknown) - Arrogant, mentally unstable technological genius who created a giant "Awesom Android" to aid him in an abortive criminal career. While attempting to loot Fort Knox, he and his android were stopped by NoMan, Zero Man and Captain Minus.  The Mad Thinker and the now-dormant android were incarcerated in Belle-Reve, but later released during the Mirror Master's "Great Escape." The Mad Thinker was then recruited by the Red Skull’s Legion of Doom, and was captured by the JLA following the Legion’s failed attempt to enslave the world. The Mad Thinker and his Android have now been returned to Belle-Reve. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

*Magneto - Click name for full entry. [Tom "Nico" Bolenbaugh]

Masked Virtuoso (Edward Groves) - Edward's super ability is in his use of swords.  He displays an uncanny mastery with almost any bladed weapon.  In his hands, a blade becomes supernatural and can inflict more damage than would usually be possible and can parry almost anything thrown his way.  His first encounter with the JLA, however, was less than illustrious. [Chad Wilson]

Mastermime (Gary Buntz) - Megalomaniacal street performer and dogmatic cult leader, Mastermime led a platoon of around twenty-five fanatical student artistes in a quiet war against the society that had rejected them. Mastermime schemed to use a combination of mysteriously obtained advanced technology and whimsical pantomime to unleash a terrible crime wave on Central City, while also gaining vengeance on the local clown college where he used to teach in the process. Unfortunately, this plot was literally stopped before it even began when Mastermime and his troupe were positively steamrolled by the Suicide Squad, who behaved in their typically direct fashion. (Created by Mike Chambers) [Ted Brengle]

Mastermind (Real Name: Unknown) - Mastermind is an arrogant metahuman who has the ability to create convincing visual and aural illusions at will.  He wears fine suits and a trenchcoat, and sports a beatnik mustache and goatee.  He is a gadfly for the new Labyrinth and is still apparently plotting with Dusk.  [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Blinky McQuade - Best known info broker in Gotham City. Has a short memory unless cash is slipped to him. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Mentalon - Click name for full entry. [John Phillips]

Menthor (John J. Janus) - Former Thunder Squad member who was chosen to use the Thunder Helmet, a device that magnified psionic powers. The helmet also caused its user to gradually become free of hatred or greed-based emotions; becoming almost saintly in behavior. Menthor was an important T.H.U.N.D.E.R. agent, and died in the Patchwork Man’s attack. The Thunder Helmet was believed destroyed, but this is unverified. (See also T.H.U.N.D.E.R.) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Metamorpho (Rex Mason) - Joined the Justice League (after the "Fearsome Foursome/Dancing Skeletons" incident) as a "publicity gesture", at the urging of his patron, Simon Stagg. Publically known as adventurer Rex Mason, he became "Metamorpho, The Element Man" after a strange accident in a tomb in Egypt (details unspecified). Mutated into a freakish "claylike" humanoid, Metamorpho could change his form at will, and become any element or compound he was consciously familiar with. He could also "exude" part of his body substance in a concrete form (element or compound) and quickly regenerate any lost body-mass from this action (example: he could "paint over" an atomic isotope with lead "exuded" from his hands). Mason was engaged to Sapphire Stagg, Simon Stagg’s daughter. Metamorpho was saddled with an unwanted power, but acknowledged the responsibility of it. He was killed during the Sentinel assault on JLA headquarters in 1955. NOTE: Mason mentioned that Simon Stagg is an "unscrupulous crumb", but he tolerated his patron because of Sapphire. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Metron

Enigmatic entity from New Genesis. Travelling in his strange "Mobius Chair", Metron first contacted Green Lantern during the war years. His motivations and goals are, at best, vague. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Mighty Fly - A common housefly accidentally mutated in the Crimson Ghost's Belle-Reve lab, Mighty Fly was a man-sized and intelligent insect with a heroic human voice.  A  member of the JLA after the Belle-Reve riots, Mighty Fly crusaded until the Legion Crisis, when the poor fellow died of old age (he had lived 14 years...phenomenal for a fly). (Character created by Jeff Allen) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Mighty Mouse (Jimmy Reese) - Eight-year-old boy who lived with his neglectful single mother in the same Yancy Street apartment building as the Fearsome Foursome. Exposed to the same dose of cosmic rays that altered his upstairs neighbors, Jimmy Reese soon discovered that he could transform himself into a powerful new form that had the exact same abilities and appearance as the popular cartoon character Mighty Mouse (one of Jimmy's favorites). Also a huge fan of the JLA, Jimmy went looking for trouble as soon as the JLA appeared in Hub City, hoping to impress them. This enthusiasm almost got Jimmy killed, however, as he started his career by fighting the Crimson Dynamo and Legion. Laying in the hospital, grievously injured and yet still ignored by his mother, the boy's plight deeply touched Harley Quinn, who was later instrumental in having Jimmy removed from his mother's custody and temporarily placed in the care of Lex Luthor. It has recently been discovered that the radiation from the meteor only activated dormant superpowers already present in the boy. It was suspected these superpowers came from the father, making the dicey question of Jimmy's paternity even more complicated. Shortly after the Legion Crisis, Jimmy began to exhibit accelerated growth and hit puberty several years early. As his body suddenly began producing hyper-quantities of hormones, some of them apparently alien, his powers began to fluctuate wildly and all these changes also triggered a radical personality shift. The formerly sweet and gentle lad suddenly began to brim with rage and rebellion. Even worse, Jimmy has now learned that his father is the alien bounty hunter Lobo, who considers Jimmy merely another bastard shired in a back ally on a backwater planet. This revelation has made Jimmy's already unimaginable difficult coming of age even more so. Trying to help him through it is Professor Charles Xavier at his school for exceptional youngsters, where Jimmy has taken on a persona very different from that of his childhood hero. The Mirror Master (Sam Scudder)
A master of refraction and "inter-dimensional" reflective qualities, The Mirror Master was one of The Flash’s most daunting opponents, though he was less-than-stellar in their first encounter (Flash bagged him in a matter of seconds). He was one of the leaders of the Belle-Reve Riots. After he was released twelve years later on good behavior, Scudder worked for Lexcorp, designing space-age optics. During the Legion Crisis, The Mirror Master vanished from Lexcorp's optics lab. Evidence indicates that the reports he made on his research were "double-talk shams". The fears that The Mirror Master would  return as a criminal with new, cutting edge refractive and inter-dimensional technology under his belt became a reality in a manner more ghastly than anyone wanted to believe when Scudder engineered the release of almost every single inmate at both Arkham Asylum and Belle-Reve penitentiary in the biggest jailbreak in human history (dubbed by the press "The Great Escape"). Mirror Master at first appeared to be working for Kingpin, but was later revealed to be one of the prime agents of Nathaniel Dusk's new Labyrinth organization. Scudder, along with the rest of Labyrinth, escaped capture and are now thought to be hard at work on some new, devious plan under the guidance of the evil Dusk. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Mist - Interdimensional heroine. Armed with an electrical blast, invisibility, flight and insubstantiality, Mist travels the dimensions looking for underdogs to help against oppressors. Mist has blue skin, doe-like ears, long pink hair and large black eyes. She wears a white bodysuit with a diaphanous cloak. Her culture is communal, so she doesn't understand the concept of marriage. [Andrea Mollett]

Mister Miracle (Scott Free)
To prevent a war between their two ancient worlds, Izaya of New Genesis and Darkseid sealed a non-aggression pact by exchanging their sons. Izaya was given the feral Orion to raise on New Genesis, while Darkseid was given Izaya's unnamed infant son. Darkseid handed the child over to Granny Goodness, to raise in her orphanage. Granny was told to be ruthlessly rough on the boy, so that he would one day be compelled to escape from Apokolips, thus breaking the pact. Inspired by the boy's planned destiny, she named him Scott Free. Scott was raised and trained to become one of Darkseid's Aero-Troopers. Never emotionally suited to life on the dark war world, Scott was taught about The Source by Himon (an enemy of the state from New Genesis), and taught to build and use a Mother Box. When he had had enough, Scott escaped Apokolips during the chaos of the Fourth Galactic War and fled to Earth. Scott befriended an aging Earth escape artist named Thaddeus Brown (aka Mr. Miracle), who had a deadly escape wager with Intergang leader Steel Hand. Steel Hand had an assassin murder Brown to guarantee the wager would never be played out. Scott avenged his friend by arriving at Intergang HQ in the Mister Miracle costume and accepting the challenge (being bound to a rocket). Scott escaped, overpowered Steel Hand and his goons and turned them over to the police. Later, Scott found that Granny and her minions were still after him; not letting his escape go unchallenged, despite the destruction of their homeworld. When they found he was now performing on Earth as an escape artist, Granny gave a simple-but-complex order to her minions: "Trap and destroy Mister Miracle." Scott and Brown's old dwarf assistant, Oberon, now tours the country performing escape shows... and staying a step ahead of the remnants of Apokolips. Scott is an auxiliary member of the JLA. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Mole Man - Encountered only once by the Justice Society, the mysterious Mole Man led a subterranean society of near-human troglodytes. Arrested, he was freed due to a lack of any legitimate charges against him (the paranoid JSA invaded HIS privacy). He is presumably still ruling his little underground realm. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Monsterizer (Dr. Henry Pym) - Driven mad by his scientific detractors, the ingenious Dr. Pym created giant monsters (tarantula; scorpion) to attack Gotham City as revenge. The JSA foiled his reign of terror, and Green Lantern hauled him off to Arkham Asylum. Years later, Pym escaped and allied himself with the nefarious Batman. It was during this time that Pym modified his growth formula and became able to alter his own size at will. Little is know about the extent of Pym's new ability as the the JLA was quick to prevent Pym from demonstrating it fully. Pym was incarcerated at the mental wing of Belle-Reve, but he was freed during "The Great Escape." He was next encountered in Metropolis and apprehended. He has since been returned to Belle-Reve. Humorous note: The Blue Beetle thought Pym’s giant tarantula was a ROBOT, and dove into it only to find himself immersed in spider-guts! [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

**Renee Montoya – Gotham City Police detective and the first latina women in the city to achieve that rank, she is the former partner of Harvey Bullock. Initially sympathetic to the city’s masked vigilantes, the murder of her partner by one of The Amazhing Ghost Fighter's enemies has changed that, and she now believes they are more trouble than they are worth. She is especially suspicious of (and angry about) “reformed” villains such as Catman and Batman II. [Ted Brengle]

Moses Mayhem (Real Name: Moses Murphy) - Former heavyweight boxer who turned to a life of crime after he was ejected from the sport when it was discovered that he was cheating by using secret metahuman abilities. His endurance, strength and speed are all far above normal human range and he is a very dangerous hand-to-hand combatant. He has fought Red Knight, The Joker and the Flash among others, mostly in the capacity of hired muscle to other criminals. He has occasionly ventured forth on his own, but these schemes invariably end in quick failure. He became one of the government's metahuman foot soldiers during the Legion Crisis, and even found his way into the false Justice League Of America as the Revolutionary War themed "Minuteman." He managed to escape the collapse of the criminal government, however, and has fled to Gotham City, where he and a couple other minor supervillains formerly employed by Legion have banded together to muscle in on the city's criminal rackets. [Ted Brengle]

Mother Cat (Melissant Groves) - Melissant is the leader Supreme Pack and the mother of all its members. She looks like a bent over older woman who walks with a cane.  Her only super power is her persuasiveness.  She has the ability to ask someone to do anything and they will do it... within reason. In talking to her, you just want to make her happy and be nice to her. [Chad Wilson]

Mr. Mxysptlk

Interdimensional prankster who bedeviled Blue Beetle until he could induce him to say his name backwards. Mxysptlk can be sent back by that means, or by fulfilling another condition that he sets up to wrack the heroes’ brains. NOTE: This is the OLD version, whose name was pronounced "mix-us-pit-lik", and NOT the newer version (pronounced "mix-il-plik"). [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Mt. Fuji (Real Name Unknown) - Tremendously strong and resistant to harm, Mt. Fuji  has all the mass that his name implies, but is also surprisingly agile despite it. Having battled against the Gecko and Yojimbo numerous times over the years, he has built a reputation as a true powerhouse in the Japanese underworld. That said, it is believed that he follows his own version of Bushido and, indeed, he has gone out of his way to protect innocents, especially children. Mt. Fuji was recently hired by Lee Sun Hoc for the recent mob war in New York city. With the collapse of the Shadow Master’s plot, of which he was not a member, he turned right around and returned to Japan. [Tom "Nico" Bolenbaugh]

Mysterio (Quentin Beck)

Ace Hollywood stuntman and special-effects artist who decided to use his skills and knowledge as a super criminal. Wearing an enigmatic “otherworldly” costume, and employing “mystical-looking” special-effects gimmicks, Mysterio is a master of deception. His most annoying gimmick is his use of a compact “fog machine” as a smoke-screen. He has fought both Spider-Man and Daredevil. Sprung from Belle-Reve through Legion's influence, Mysterio was largely responsible for the deception of Nehemiah Scutter. Although Beck really enjoyed that job, once it was over Mysterio slipped his government leash and wasn't seen again until he showed up in the employ of Labyrinth. Thanks to his sealed suit, he survived Porcupine II's nerve gas attack and was whisked away by Nathaniel Dusk to an unknown location. Later he became involved in the Master Of Science's schemes, which lead to his capture. He is currently being held at Riker's Island. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

N
Jack Napier Sr. - Father & patron of The Joker. He is the CEO of The National-Monarch Playing Card Co., and other industries in Gotham City. Click for note from Sanson Comics Insider [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Janice Napier - Sister of The Joker; she is the legal heir to the Napier holdings, following Jack’s "death". Janice serves as an outside agent for The Joker as needed. Click for note from Sanson Comics Insider [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Napoleon Flash (Gus Schultz)

Gus was a janitor at the Smithsonian Institute, in charge of the Hall of Heroes. While cleaning up on a stormy night, a bolt of lightning came through the window, coursing through the specially-made JLA statues, and then striking the hapless janitor.  The lightning drew upon the mysterious qualities in the unique statues, giving Gus the combined powers and knowledge of the JLA.  Using the power of Metamorpho to reshape himself as a colorful "hero," and calling himself Napoleon Flash, Gus plagued the JLA out of sheer egotism.  His powers were temporary, though, and Gus would use "green lightning" (ala Green Lantern/Sentinel) to recharge himself with the statues. The insidious Batman discovered his secret and stole the statues, planning to use the combined powers himself.  Realizing the threat at hand, and how his actions invited it, Napoleon Flash caught up with Red Knight, telling him the whole story. After Batman was thwarted, and the statues destroyed, Gus happily watched his powers fade away, and went back to his janitorial duties...a bit wiser. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Elektra Natchios

Beautiful, provocative daughter of a wealthy Greek shipping magnet, Elektra attended college at NYU, where she meet Matt Murdock while he was enrolled there. They were both attracted to each other, but remained only friendly acquaintances until Elektra learned that Murdock was in fact the hero Daredevil. She then sought him out, sensing that there were far more alike than she originally suspected. They now share a deep kinship cemented by a growing mutual understanding of the dark parts of the soul that they have both had to struggle against. Elektra has recently dropped out of school to accompany Matt on his quest to find himself, much to her father's displeasure. Little does Elektra's father understand that that this quest for self-awareness is as much hers as Daredevil's. [Ted Brengle]

Alfred E. Neuman - Loyal butler to the Napier family. Neuman is a funny-looking fellow: red hair and freckles; out-of-level eyes; a wide smile with a front tooth missing; large ears. His voice sounds positively idiotic. Click for note from Sanson Comics Insider [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Dr. Gustav Niemann - Mad scientist; older brother of Dr. Otto Von Niemann (Gustav did not feel Otto’s need to add a pretentious "Von" to the family name). Obsessed with the experiments of Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Dr. Moreau, Niemann became a cold-hearted vivisectionist, stooping to any means to further his knowledge. Unlike his brother Otto, Gustav was not sympathetic to the Nazis, but could not resist the offer of unlimited experimental funding and subjects. His first major project was to create a half-reptile super soldier (The Gecko). Niemann’s Peruvian lab was raided by the JSA, and he and his hunchbacked assistant, Daniel, were forced to flee (Daniel served Niemann in the hopes of one day having his brain transferred to a normal body). A member of "Pentacle" at Innsmouth, Niemann had his skeletal structure viciously dislocated by a vengeful Gecko; and recovered at Belle-Reve, where The Crimson Ghost recruited him to work on the "Abuse" virus. During the Belle-Reve Riots, The Gecko ended Niemann’s vile career by shooting him. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner)

Kurt Wagner is a second generation German-American who grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, with his two loving parents.  Due to his unusual appearance stemming from his mutation, he was rarely able to lave his house.  However, this soon changed with an offer from Professor Charles Xavier.  Now, thanks to the Professor, he is honing his teleportation abilities and working with the first friends his age that he has ever had. [Brandon Keller]

NoMan (Prof. Anthony Dunn)
Introduced to the Justice League by Archie Goodwin, NoMan was a member of  T.H.U.N.D.E.R., a "secret government agency" that was destroyed by The Patchwork Man. NoMan is motivated by a sense of duty, and the responsibility of power. He looks like an athletic male wearing a khaki/rescue-orange bodysuit, blue-gray trunks, and leather boots and belt. He packs a very heavy-looking automatic sidearm (Stark Arms .44 Automag; a "space-age" development). His skin is blue; head is bald with matte black eyes (eye sockets appeared perpetually in shadow). NoMan was an aging research scientist who transferred his consciousness into an android body. Duplicates of this body were manufactured by Stark Industries; NoMan could switch android bodies at will. NoMan had re-acquired another device he'd used as a secret agent: a literal "Cloak of Invisibility" (blue gray cloak w/hood) which could make him totally invisible. The device was found, unscathed, in the wreckage of his old intelligence installation, and was graciously returned to his care by President Eisenhower in 1954.  His last android body was destroyed while saving the lives of Warden Braffert and Annette Rosenberg during the Legion Crisis in late 1955, leading many to believe he was dead. It was later learned that NoMan attempted to jump his consciousness into the Sentinel that destroyed him and then tried to interface with the Sentinel's master control computer, Master Mold.  The attempt failed and it was believed for a time that the ordeal damaged NoMan, causing either a psychological break or severe program corruption, twisting his consciousness into the personae of "Shadow Master."  This, however, has now been discovered to be a hoax perpetrated by Dr. Otto Von Niemann, who had captured Dr. Dunn's consciousness after he was repulsed by the Master Mold, and was manipulating NoMan's abilities for his own ends. NoMan has since been freed from Von Niemann's clutches by the Suicide Squad. (See also T.H.U.N.D.E.R. ) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Nova (Real Name: Unknown) - Flamboyant superhero who was suffocated to death by The Sandman. (Created by Dave Dotson.) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

O
The Octopus (Real Name: Unknown)

Ruthless and mysterious crime boss of Metropolis, he was apprehended by The Blue Beetle when Dr. Sivana’s "Hydroencephalic Death Ray" failed to kill (or even tickle) the superhero. Busted out of Metropolis Pen by Black Mask’s men, his men were part of the gangland raid on The Gotham Towers during the Joker-&-Harley Quinn wedding. The Octopus wears black gloves with three white stripes on the back of each. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Jimmy Olsen - Red-headed, freckle-faced, "golly-jeekers" cub reporter and photographer for "The Daily Planet". He’s sometimes called "Blue Beetle’s Pal", a reference Blue Beetle is trying to live down. Perry White still won’t let him call him, "Chief". He’ll probably never get laid. Perhaps realizing this, he went crazy and became the Mad Bomber. He was apprehended by the JLA and is currently commited to Arkham Asylum. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

103 (Rusty Nichols) - "Meta Avenger" with the ability to alter his form and become any element or compound, similar to the late hero, Metamorpho. He abandoned Magneto, and his current whereabouts are unknown. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

**Opus – A genetically-modified and “uplifted” penguin, Opus is the beloved lieutenant, best friend and side kick to Oswald Cobblepot, the nominal Penguin. The first bird treated with Oswald’s revolutionary virus to increase the intelligence of birds, it worked uniquely well on him and he soon acquired human-level intelligence. The Penguin considered Opus a triumph and his masterpiece, hence his name. Later, Opus began to suspect that the spores Poison Ivy designed to spread the virus might caused sterility in birds, but couldn’t bear to crush  his best friend’s dream by telling him. While Opus does require daily “boosters” to maintain the necessary viral load in his bloodstream in order to keep his intelligence, his loyalty and affection for The Penguin is deep and genuine. The two of them have since left Gotham City to find their fortune elsewhere. [Ted Brengle]

Otis

Clumsy, slow-witted, overweight personal assistant to Lex Luthor. Lex gave Otis the job as a favor to his cousin Ellie, Otis' mother. Despite being successfully ditched at the JLA Christmas party, Otis has since found his way back to Lex's side. [Ted Brengle]

P
May Parker - Whiney, sickly, guilt-tripping elderly aunt of poor, put-upon Peter Parker. Between her and J. Jonah Jameson, ol’ Pete may well wind up at Arkham soon. Would the person who’s gonna shoot Jimmy Olsen PLEASE save a few rounds for Aunt May?!? [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Parsifal (Edger Serafin) - Nothing less than The Luckiest Man On Earth, Serafin has grown quite bored with his lot and is thinking of joining The Justice League to add excitement to his life. [Ted Brengle]

The Patchwork Man - Click name for full entry. [Ted Brengle]

Rep. Raymond Pelt (R. Illinois) - Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives who briefly became acting President after Dwight Eisenhower and Berry Goldwater were both injured in separate accidents caused by The Cheshire Cat. Two weeks before the accidents, Raymond Pelt was visited by The Cheshire Cat. Apparently Pelt had some very atypical sexual tastes, as well as some improper financial ties to several companies in his district, and The Cheshire Cat threatened to expose him. They reached an "agreement" and when he was later thrust into the Presidency, The Cheshire Cat returned. Between the extortion and the stress of being President during a huge international crisis, Pelt quickly deferred to him and did whatever he asked. This included declaring martial law and giving The Cheshire Cat full presidential access to top secret, experimental government psionics research based on old Patchwork Man designs dating from Project: Faustus. Captain America was hot on the trail of all of this when he run afoul of The Cheshire Cat and had practically every bone in his body broken. Pelt is now arguing that The Cheshire Cat was a JLA member who was blackmailing him while convincingly arguing that he could defeat The Patchwork Man and save the country if he was only given the right resources. He'll still probably be impeached and removed, but there is some sympathy for him in some quarters. [Ted Brengle]

*The Penguin (Oswald Cobblepot)

Laughable "Master of a Million Trick Umbrellas" who is continually being beat up by The Joker, Harley Quinn and The Amazing Ghost Fighter. Even Blue Beetle got to tip him over in his "Giant Mechanical Penguin." He recently signed on to the Red Skull’s Legion of Doom scheme as a hired gun for a quick infusion of cash so he could complete work on his most ambitious plan yet, a lifelong quest that almost all of his criminal enterprises throughout the years had been financing. Finally, the Penguin, who is quietly one of the foremost ornithologists on the planet, had developed a virus that increased intelligence and aggression in birds, and also tuned them even more fully to the natural empathic link he always shared with them. With it, he could influence and train every bird effected and create an avian army that even the Justice League would be hard pressed to stop. The only problem was the virus was fragile and required constant and prolonged exposure to the birds in order to work. Penguin then joined forces with Poison Ivy, who developed a moss-based spoor that would grow on trees and carry the virus. The birds, in turn, would carry the spoor to other trees spreading the moss, and as the moss was also designed to supercharge and insanely accelerate the growth of the trees it bonded with, everyone got what they wanted. Or so it seemed. Actually, Ivy never told Penguin that her spoors caused eventual sterility in the birds exposed to it, and if their plan to take the moss world-wide succeeded, it would mean the extinction of every avian species in less than five years. After several days of a gleeful crime-spree through Gotham City, powered by his flocks of friendly birds, where The Penguin was more successful than he had ever been, Penguin learned from Catman how he had been deceived and his partnership with Ivy ended spectacularly. The Penguin aided Catman, Kid Comet and Scarlet Gray in destroying the immense water pump that would have flooded Gotham with water from the underground lake that lies beneath it, providing Ivy’s trees planted all over the city the water necessary to tear Gotham  apart with their chaotic, unchecked growth; growth that would also spread the spoors all over the eastern seaboard. Afterward, despondent and his lifelong dreams shattered, The Penguin dejectedly offered himself up for arrest to Catman, who let him go, after securing a promise that Penguin wouldn’t be seen in Gotham for at least a year. The Penguin was last seen waddling off with his best friend, Opus the penguin, toward an unknown future. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Alfred Pennyworth - Faithful butler of The Batman. He was more faithful to Batman than vice-versa, as the latter hasn’t bothered to free him from Stonegate Penitentiary, where he still resides. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Pestilence (Leonard Smyth) - Formerly a medical doctor, Smyth's license was revoked in 1950 due to gross malpractice. Following that, Smyth made a marginal living as a Mob doctor until he was found by the Patchwork Man and "Anointed." Pestilence can now alter his victims' genetic structure to mimic the presence of a very nasty strain of the flu. While the illness is not communicable, it is often lethal. Pestilence must touch the victim in order to "transmit" the disease, but this is quite easy as Pestilence can can also turn invisible. Smyth has dearly paid for these abilities though, and remains constantly ill. Smyth was imprisoned on 15 counts of First Degree Murder at Belle-Reve, but was freed, thanks to "The Great Escape." He wasn't sighted until he again appeared as a foot soldier for The Patchwork Man during his recent climactic confrontation with the JLA and Taskforce. Having learned to directly join his power with that of his colleague Famine, they generated a incredibly destructive entropic energy field which they used to threaten the heart of New York, until they were shut down by Green Goblin II and Captain Marvel. Pestilence has again been returned to Belle-Reve. [Ted Brengle]

The Phantom Stranger (aka The Gray Man) - Mysterious agent of The Lords of Order. He banded the mystical members of the JLA together to resist Dr. Destiny’s psychic "dream attack". [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Phoenix (Annette Rosenberg)
It is unclear exactly what occurred when Annette Rosenberg died, but one thing is for sure: It wasn't permanent. Instead, she arose from the fire stronger than she'd ever been before, her already formidable psionic gifts amplified a vast amount. In all other ways, however, she seems utterly normal and completely like she was before. When using her powers to their fullest extent, the awesome form of a giant, flaming bird in flight takes shape around her. The sight is beautiful, amazing and absolutely terrifying. For a year following her transformation, she had custody of Warden Braffert (Mentalon) and they lived in the mansion left to her by Archie Goodwin. A member of The Taskforce (#5, "The Psychic"), she was integral in helping to plan the war on The Patchwork Man. During the war's final acts, though, she was knocked out of action after only narrowly preventing a nuclear device from destroying Los Angeles. Through pure strength of will she reversed the explosion, but the strain apparently triggered a new and more frightening transformation that was felt by almost every living thing in the galaxy. After another brief withdraw into catatonia, Phoenix emerged again, her manner and appearance now both darker and more severe. She was on the brink of killing in cold blood the defeated and unconscious Patchwork Man, but was persuaded not to give in to her hatred and anger by Mentalon and the other members of the Justice League. Touched by their words, Annette was able to reassert her compassionate nature, and this new darker aspect faded away. Still deeply troubled by the ordeal, however, Phoenix has decided to leave Earth in order to learn more about herself and ponder what it is she is becoming. It is not clear when (or even if) she will return. (See also Psilence) [Ted Brengle]

*The Pied Piper (Hartley Rathaway) - Bored dilletante Hartley Rathaway was born deaf, but an expensive surgery gave him remarkable hearing beyond normal human bounds. Discovering the link between emotional states and sounds, Hartley became a super villain as a lark, becoming The Pied Piper. His pipe is attuned to a wavelength that compels the listener to dance uncontrollably. Routed by The Flash continually, he finally served his time at Belle-Reve and was released from prison. He stayed clean for several years, but his boredom and short attention span eventually got the better of him, and when he was approached by The Riddler to join the so-called "Perfect Crime Club," Rathaway jumped at the chance. While this escapade did divert Rathaway briefly, he is now looking at 3-to-6 more years of boredom at Gotham's Stonegate Penitentiary. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Pinky - Idiotic mutant mouse created during The Crimson Ghost’s experiments. Having the power of speech (a dubious power, considering his limited mindset), Pinky assists his friend, The Brain, in his many abortive schemes to conquer the world. Technically an inmate at Belle-Reve, he and Brain regularly escape to try another mad scheme. Quote: "Narf!!" Yes, he's currently free, too.  [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

**Poison Ivy (Dr. Pamela Isley)

Perhaps the most brilliant botanist the world has ever seen, Dr. Isley is also an utterly amoral sociopath whose love of plants, at the expense of all other forms of life on the planet, is nothing short of pathological. Years of experimentation with dangerous organic compounds and plant-based hallucinogens have altered her body and warped her mind. Her bloodstream, for example, is now so filled with lethal toxins that she can literally kill with a kiss; an ability she often has the opportunity to use, as the absurd chemical cocktail that is her physiology also emits powerful pheromones that give her a great deal of influence over most human males. Meanwhile, her behavior is increasingly violent, grandiose and delusional, as she no longer feels any allegiance whatsoever to humanity. Frequently tormenting Gotham City with her vegitation-intensive schemes, she is a perennial adversary of The Joker and, needless to say, a recurring inmate of Arkham Asylum. Her recent partnership with the Penguin, where they collaborated on a genetically-engineered moss, spread by birds, that super-charged the growth and toughness of trees, while a virus in the mold’s spoors increased the intelligence and aggression of the birds, ended spectacularly when the JLA revealed to the Penguin that Ivy’s spoors also caused sterility in the birds. Apprehended by the JLA, Dr. Isley has been returned to Arkham Asylum. [Ted Brengle]

The Porcupine (Alexander Gentry) - Former military weapons tech who created a powerful, armored, multi-weaponed suit to serve in the illustrious criminal organization known as "Labyrinth". Hired as one of Labyrinth’s most formidable enforcers, The Porcupine was reduced to a pile of ash by The Red Knight’s repulsors less than ten seconds after making his debut. (I guess that makes him the SECOND most pathetic villain in this campaign.) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

*The Porcupine II (Hannibal Gentry) - The son of the original Porcupine, Gentry assisted his father in developing the original Porcupine suit and now hungers to repay the JLA for his father's ignominious end. Having obtained a far more potent set of combat armor than his father's, Gentry is a charter member of Dusk's newly revived Labyrinth. In his first major engagement with the JLA, Porcupine II gained some notoriety by launching a nerve gas attack into a room filled with his own team mates, clearly not caring who got in the way of his vengeance. Indeed, the only people Porcupine II succeeded in injuring were Rhino and Electro: Rhino, being extraordinarily resilient, later revived at the morgue, but Electro was instantly killed. An autopsy on Electro's body confirmed that the nerve agent used was the dreaded "Black Lotus," originally developed by the Sunderland Corporation, hinting that fugitive Sunderland scientists might have had a hand in constructing Gentry's new battle suit. Porcupine II escaped along with Dusk and was next encountered as a member of the Red Skull’s Legion of Doom. Following that criminal conspiracy’s collapse, he was taken into custody by the JLA while his battle armor was taken to Stark Industries for disposal. Gentry is currently being held at Riker’s Island. (Character by Steve "Sanson" Mollett) [Ted Brengle]

The Prowler (Leo Kragg) - Leon Kraggstein was a stockbroker who lost most of his better investments during the Crash. Siding with some union friends, he began stealing documents that could expose unscrupulous robber-barons. After some hired goons almost nabbed him, he resorted to wearing an archer’s mask and carrying two handguns. Now called The Prowler by the press, Leon (Leo Kragg to the "goyishe" business world) found out his friend had been murdered by the businessman’s goons, who were attempting to find out The Prowler’s identity. Enraged, Kragg completed the elements of his "costume" and infiltrated the robber-baron’s plant. There he met Murder Legendre, who thought Kragg was a new "hired thug". Kragg discovered that the businessman was using zombies as cheap labor…including his resurrected friend! In the furious fight that followed, the robber-baron and the zombies were burned alive, and Legendre escaped. Over the years that followed, The Prowler fought everything from gangsters to Nazi spies, taking the stance that "the only good crook’s a DEAD crook!" Leo developed a strange, "psychic armor" that served as an effective defense when he was conscious. The armor was allegedly a link to the mysterious "Source", triggered by his virulent anger. He was finally drafted into T.H.U.N.D.E.R. as a "meritorious hit man", and died in The Patchwork Man’s assault on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. in 1954. **The Puzzler

A clever gimmick villain and master strategist who is fascinated by puzzles. He and his partner, Domino Chance, recently made a splash in Gotham City, capturing The Joker, Harley Quinn and Huntress, staging several flashy heists enabled by equipment designed by Eival Ekdall, and leading several other heroes on a merry chase before eventually absconding with a good deal of gold.  Despite the fact that The Puzzler is free and rich, while the Riddler is currently in custody after another less-than-successful campaign, word has it that Edward Nygma is more than a little miffed at this new-comer and is loudly promising a reckoning.
[Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Psilence (Real Name: Annette Rosenberg) - Beautiful, mute telepath and telekinetic who fought crime in Los Angels from 1946-1949, eventually becoming deeply involved with the Red Knight and his loyal legman, Archie Goodwin (later her lover). Was committed to Arkham Asylum in 1949 after reading the Patchwork Man's mind. At that time she vacillated between catatonia and hysterical screaming and had to be kept in a straight jacket as she would attack anyone who came near her. Her telepathic abilities were discovered to still exist when the Patchwork Man visited her cell when he entered Arkham Asylum to break out the Scarecrow (Jonathan Crane) on March 13th, 1954. Her psychic screams were picked up by the unbalanced minds in the asylum and drove them into a frenzy. Archie Goodwin continued to visit her regularly and when he was around, she sometimes had a few short moments of (very scattered) lucidity. Her mental state continued to deteriorate until the powerful telepath Mentalon made contact with her mind and somehow brought her out of her catatonia. During the final moments of the Legion Crisis, Rosenberg was apparently killed by The Patchwork Man, only to quickly arise, reborn as something far more powerful. (See Phoenix)  (Based on a character concept by Scott Bicket.) [Ted Brengle]

Q
Sgt. Patrick Quinncannon

US Army Sergeant Quinncannon was on Gamma Bomb Test detail when a hod-rodding teenager (former Junior G-Man Rick Jones) blundered into the testing range.  Running after the wayward civilian and tossing him into the nearest bunker, the sergeant took a healthy blast of the gamma radiation.  The result was that Quinncannon gained increased resilience to physical damage and increased strength.  He also gained a psychic attack he calls the 'tally mordew': a psi projectile that looks like a pint of Irish whisky and leaves the target drunk.  Sgt. Quinncannon wears his regular army fatigues, and is currently under Captain America's guidance.  The sergeant is a traditional 'good Irishman' who enjoys a good drink and a good fight. (Character created by Andrea Mollett) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

*Ra's al Ghul
As brilliant and powerful as he is deranged, Ra's al Ghul, "The Demon's Head," has been the leader of the Society Of Assassins for at least a century. Ra's al Ghul's longevity is due to his mastery of the secrets of The Lazarous Pits, mysterious pools that rejuvenate and drive men mad in almost equal measure. Ra's al Ghul has been exposed to the Lazarous Pits for a very long time now, his sanity left behind long ago. What is left is unimaginable dangerous: Fiendishly intelligent, incalculably rich and utterly convinced that humanity is a pestilence that is dooming Earth's ecology. He thus plans nothing less than a purge of human life on a planetary scale, with him ruling whatever is left in blissful accord with nature. Ra's al Ghul is as committed to saving the Earth (in his way) as any hero, and has been devoting his significant resources--financial, scientific and occult--to the problem for decades. He has recently started to move openly, so far fighting only very low-level skirmishes with CURE's Suicide Squad, obviously testing their abilities. He also seems, at long last, to be reaching the outer edge of even the Lazarous Pits' ability to revivify, and has reportedly turned his attention to finding an heir to ensure that his work and empire will carry on. He knows that his daughter, Talia, is in love with the Gray Ghost and finds her taste in men abominably disappointing.  Recently, Ra’s  al Ghul learned of The Penguin and Poison Ivy’s plot involving the elevation of bird and plant species at the expense of humanity, and began aiding them secretly, without their knowledge (although Ivy suspected that a shadowy force was helping them), using his worldwide smuggling network to funnel to them the necessary equipment, resources and scientific information. However, when Ra’s learned that the plot would actually cause the eventually sterility and extinction of all avian species, he immediately turned against the project and tasked Talia with containing Ivy’s creation. As Ra’s organization secretly ran the smuggling ring that the Penguin and Ivy were using, it was an easy matter to turn it around and use it to instead round up and destroy the shipments of genetically-designed trees that Ivy was attempting to ship world-wide. (Character adapted by Chad Wilson.) [Ted Brengle]

Raven - Elf Mage who was exiled from Asgard, and who crusaded with the JLA on Earth for a short time. He was soon forgiven by Odin and admitted to Valhalla for his deeds on "Midgard." (Character created by Dave Dotson) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

**Raven II

Raven is the half-human/half-demon daughter of the human Arella and the demon Trigon.  In order to protect mother and child, both were sent to Azarath, a place “between all dimensions.”  It’s peaceful, pacifist society helped mother and daughter, but the stigma of being half-demon was hard on Raven.  Always and everywhere she was watched, as the people of Azarath looked for signs of her father’s influence.  She was taught how to master her powers and, above all, how to strictly suppress her emotions so that she could maintain control over her demon half. Recently, despite the efforts of the people around her to keep it a secret, she learned of the prophecy that connected her birth to Trigon’s return.  Afraid and alone, she ran from her home and eventually, through her wanderings,  found Earth and its heroes.  Witnessing their power and heroism, she knew this, of all places, was where she could be safe.  Finding sanctuary at Professor X's School for   the Gifted, she has not yet told anyone of the prophecy, as she is afraid she will lose her newfound friends.  She hopes that by leaving Azarath she has circumvented the prophecy.  However, as Trigon knows, his day of ascension comes ever closer no matter what plane she has fled to. (Character adapted by Melissa Leeseberg) [Brandon Keller]

Red Knight (Golden and Silver Age) - Click name for full entry. [Ted Brengle]

The Red Kommissar (Col. Natalia Kerensky) - Soviet super-soldier whose abilities were based largely on intensive training and special weapons. An attractive, athletic redhead with a bubbly-to-seductively-mysterious personality, The Red Kommissar wore a skimpy, deep-red leather "harness" costume and high boots, and sometimes a beige trenchcoat over that costume. She was a key allied super-agent during the war, and now continues to serve as a high-level officer in the KGB. She was a bridesmaid at Harley Quinn & The Joker’s wedding, and woke up in bed with Archie Goodwin the morning after (from then on she called him "comrade cuteski"). With her country embroiled in a bitter Civil War, she now defends the city and people of Moscow from all enemies foreign and domestic. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Red Lotus (Real Name Unknown) -  A skilled martial artist with a reputation as a hot head and a disdain for non-Chinese, Red Lotus specializes in flexible weapons, such as chain whips, nunchaku and the three section staff. Red Lotus and his brother White Cobra served the Yellow Dragon Society as chief enforcers.  Deciding that they deserved greater status, the brothers became part of the Shadow Master’s plot to take over the New York underworld.  After the failure of the plot, the two brothers went into hiding. [Tom "Nico" Bolenbaugh]

*The Red Skull (Real Name: Unknown)

Feared Axis agent, trained by Hitler, himself. The Red Skull squared off against Captain America, Captain Britain, and The Invisible Agent repeatedly. He was finally apparently killed in the same climactic Nazi laboratory explosion that ended the life of Captain Britain. In 1957, however, the Red Skull was revealed to be alive and leading a new “Anti-Justice League” group named (unironically) The Legion of Doom. The Skull actually showed great patience and restraint by staying in the shadows as long as he did and not immediately attacking his old foe Captain America, but his plan, involving an attempt to change history to prevent metahuman development on Earth, opening up the Earth for a Lunar Force invasion led by Retik the Moon Monster, was still thwarted by the JLA and ESC. The Red Skull escaped capture, however, and surely plots new villainy. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

**Retik – The so-called “Moon Monster,” this alien warlord commanded a small army of soldiers, possibly refugees or mercenaries fleeing the Skrull-Kree conflict, who at some point settled on Earth’s moon, quietly fortifying a tiny part of it with ambitious to use it as a staging area to invade Earth. Retik allied himself with the Red Skull and joined his Legion of Doom in service of this, but his dreams of conquest were dashed by the JLA and ESC. He is currently in ESC custody, awaiting transport to Oa, where he will face the stack of war crimes charges he racked up elsewhere in the galaxy and fled ages ago. (Adapted by Steve “Sanson” Mollett) [Ted Brengle]

Dr. Reed Richards

Brilliant young scientist who first gained notoriety with the development and deployment (with the assistance of the extra-terrestrial Zero Man) of a series of satellites designed to collect and analyze comic rays, allowing NASA to calculate the threat they might pose to future astronauts. One of these satellites was hit by a meteor in high orbit, infusing the meteor with concentrated cosmic rays and setting up a series of events that created several metahumans in Hub City, most notably The Fearsome Foursome. Richards also owns his own freelance R&D company headquartered in the Baxter Building in New York city. Currently he has taken in Sue Sorski and Ben Grimm and is investigating their miraculous return from the dead. In the last few months, between the attempt on his life by the Latvarian monarch Dr. Doom, and the successful completion of the Argo expedition which he organized, funded, and made possible through his revolutionary stardrive design, Richards' worldwide fame and popularity have become considerable. (Ted Brengle)

*The Riddler (Edward Nygma)

Annoying, but ingenious, criminal whose passion for riddles and puzzles have cooked the brains of many a hero, but have also resulted in Nygma’s repeated arrests. After acting as an "harassment agent" for Labyrinth, he was tried and convicted of treason. That conviction, however, was reexamined and overturned on the basis of an insanity defense devised by criminal attorney Diedre "Slip" Claws. Because of this, Nygma was transferred from Belle-Reve to Arkham Asylum. Not that it mattered: He, along with everyone else, was released during 'The Great Escape." Nygma was thought to be again working for Labyrinth, but instead turned up as a founding member of the “Perfect Crime Club.” It wasn’t, and he has been returned to Arkham. Adding insult to injury is the fact that Nygma is now painfully aware that someone called The Puzzler has brazenly stolen his act and recently made off with several million dollars worth of gold while doing it. Nygma vows that this "pretender" will get his. Soon.  [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Otto Rifenberg - Otto Rifenberg's history has been filled with questionable activities.  He was recruited by Hydra when that organization first founded their research and development group known as AIM.  Rifenberg did a great deal of work for AIM developing advanced weapons systems until the cell he was working in was shut down by the Red Knight.  Rifenberg claimed that he was blinded by his obsession with science and had no interest in either AIM or Hydra's political ambitions.  He was pardoned and recruited by the US government and placed in charge of the "Red/American Knights" project, developing battle armor similar to the designs of Tony Stark which mimic the abilities of the Red Knight.  Rifenberg's designs sacrificed power for mass production capabilities and he envisioned a time when entire batallions of troops will be able to take the field in his designs.  Rifenberg has since disappeared and is rumored to have returned to AIM, taking with him everything that wasn't nailed down at the government lab in the process. [Tom "Niko" Bolenbaugh]

Rocketman (Denny Colt aka "John Elton")

After retiring from his Suicide Squad affiliation as The Spirit, Denny Colt laid low under the name, “John Elton.” Missing the excitement, he approached CURE director Smith with the request to rejoin Suicide Squad armed with better equipment. Smith referred him to old T.H.U.N.D.E.R. techs Jeff King, George “Commando” Cody and Larry Martin, who outfitted Colt with a newly designed jet pack and an ‘electrostun’ gun. Code-named, “Rocketman,” Colt worked with the Suicide Squad on three missions in South America. In the last of these, the squad worked with the newly formed Earth Space Corps to bring down the alien tyrant, Krankor. ESC chief Capt. Buck Rogers asked Colt to join ESC and, with a nod from Smith, Colt accepted. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Willow Rosenberg
The Adamantium Age Red Knight, Willow Rosenberg is evidently the daughter of Annette Rosenberg and Archie Goodwin, although how this can be possible is currently unknown. Willow apparently stole Victor Von Doom's time machine at some point in the future and used it to travel back into the present to aid the JLA in the First Patchwork Man War. Having borrowed the identity of JLA intern Betty Ross, whom Willow knew would not start work for another six weeks, her aid was at first very surreptitious (although she did very briefly become Red Knight to help rescue Venom from his first encounter with The Patchwork Man). While at her post at the Hall of Justice, several Patchwork Man plots were quietly halted by Willow without anyone even knowing anyone was in danger. Then, on the night of The First Patchwork Man War, Willow jammed the JLA communication system so that the Scarecrow could not flood every JLA communicator with his experimental "fear frequency," and disappeared. Operating quickly and quietly, she helped shut down Patchwork Man terror attacks throughout the country before they even began, leaving behind only scattered ambiguous sightings of the Red Knight in action, and giving the JLA the opportunity to rest before they directly confronted The Patchwork Man. During this climactic final confrontation, she appeared briefly and helped turn the tide of the battle, demonstrating a profound mastery of the Red Knight armor's capabilities. When the battle was over, the JLA realized that the mysterious "second Red Knight" had slipped away. None of this information is currently known by any member of the JLA (save Fugue, of course), and Willow has now returned to her own time, leaving the identity of the Betty Ross impostor and the "second Red Knight" to remain two separate, and maddeningly unsolved, mysteries. [Ted Brengle]

Betty Ross

A student at the University of Metropolis and the daughter of General "Thunderbolt" Ross, Betty has been selected to work as an intern at the Hall of Justice. Betty took the position in late 1956, only a short while after the First Patchwork Man War. As a side project, Betty continues to search for clues as to the identity of the mysterious redheaded impostor who used immaculately forged identification papers to steal Betty's identity and gain access to the JLA for six weeks prior to Betty's arrival at the Hall of Justice. So far, the trail is frustratingly cold, but Betty Ross has a share of her father's stubbornness and is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. [Ted Brengle]

Roy - Not a lot is known about Roy. He's friends with Stan Belarsky. Efforts to find out his last name ended... poorly. Eventually Roy's hair-trigger temper will be channeled into something remotely useful and he will become the second pillar in the Mystery Men: Mr. Furious. [Mike Chambers]
