The Anti-Spider-Man League - Loose confederation of New York super villains who attempted to join forces against Spider-Man in 1949. They attacked the webslinger in small groups (sneak attacks) and were all defeated. They included The Vulture, The Green Goblin, Mysterio, Electro, and The Rhino. The Green Goblin escaped capture, paving the way for his final defeat later. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Costrolari Family - This crime family controls the docks on the west side of New York city.  They are very influential and powerful, spreading their fingers into prostitution and drugs. They serve under The Kingpin, but do not like it and are always scheming to somehow loosen his grip on New York and take over the west side for themselves. [Chad Wilson]

*CURE - When the Legion Crisis hit, former T.H.U.N.D.E.R. agents Harold W. Smith and Conn MacCleary organized surviving agents into a new organization: CURE.  Smaller than its predecessor, CURE has the advantage of being secret to all but its operatives.  After the defeat of Legion, CURE continues to be the secret protector of the free world, employing its "Suicide Squad" when drastic measures are called for. After a climactic confrontation with HYDRA, CURE has gone even further underground, removing the knowledge of its existence from the minds of its own agents. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Der Nachtabteilungen (The Nighttroopers) - Stealth commandos trained by Ferik Jaggar as his personal shock-troops toward the formation of a 4th Reich. They were skilled in ninja-style stealth and military commando techniques, but did not know how to cloud minds. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Earth Space Corps (ESC)
Formed by  Zero Man after his journey into space on The Argo, the ESC is a covert space program whose specific mandate is to defend the Earth against alien threats. During his odyssey, Zero Man was pointedly reminded how dangerous and unstable a place the galaxy is, and quickly realized that if his adopted home of Earth was to avoid the fate of his homeworld, humanity would need to develop a presence in space as quickly as possible. Reed Richards was instrumental in providing  Zero Man with the resources and contacts needed to get the ball rolling, and the initiative soon proved very popular. Zero Man is currently administrating the ESC, but only until he can train a sufficient number of operatives and place one of them in charge.  The ESC has a base located on the dark side of the moon where training and other functions occur, and currently has access to two ships: The Uncle Sam and The Red Knight. The ESC is still in its formative stages and so far has a very small roster. It includes former hotshot W.W.II pilot Captain Buck Rogers and Yusei Oji, (aka Prince of Space).  The newest addition to the team is Denny Colt, The Rocketman. [Chad Wilson]

Fantasy Associates, Inc. - Gotham City-based entertainment company which stages elaborate theatrical "fantasies" for wealthy clients. Their most popular (and expensive) package is the "Masked Vigilante Mystery - Deluxe Version," which provides the adventurous with a night of catered thrills and spills--complete with clues, evil masterminds and deathtraps--and all for a mere $2,190. Recently, this company--through no real fault of its own--has gotten on the bad side of several members of the Suicide Squad, and will probably stay there for a very long time, indeed. The Fearsome Foursome - Previously known as the incompetent "Penny Ante Gang" by Hub City police, this group's fortunes changed briefly when a meteor (which had collided in orbit with a satellite collecting concentrated cosmic rays) crashed into the top of a run-down Yancy Street apartment building where two of them lived. This occurred during a party welcoming home "Penny Ante Gang" members and new parolees Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm. After the impact, all present in the apartment--Grimm, Storm, his sister Sue and her husband James Sorski--immediatley manifested metahuman powers and ran off, laughing, into the night. As they laid low and started making big plans (which involved an inordinate amount of time thinking up catchy-sounding code names), they were tracked down by  Dr. Hieronymous Joy, who quickly persuaded James Sorski--the group's ersatz leader--that working for him would be the easiest road to The Big Score. Thus, "The Penny Ante Gang" was reborn as The Fearsome Foursome (Thud, The Dragon, Emerald Web and Jimmy Shortround) and initially proved quite successful in implementing Dr. Joy's (and by extension, Legion's) schemes in Hub City. This didn't last long, however, and The Fearsome Foursome disbanded when Sue Sorski and Ben Grimm were murdered at the hands of the Legion-controlled Epsilon. Although both Grimm and Sorski have since returned from the dead, the chances are still microscopically small that the original group will ever re-unite.

**“The Gotham Knights” – Not an official group affiliation, per say, as much as a useful phrase increasingly used (especially by the press) to denote the masked defenders of Gotham City, especially when—as is increasingly common—their cases overlap and they work together. While more of a casual alliance than an actual team, the bonds between the heroes of Gotham City, several of whom have been personally mentored by The Joker, are nevertheless quite strong, and they will not hesitate to rush to each other’s aid if and when the need arises. Green Lantern Corps

A recently organized, multi-species, peace-keeping organization formed by the secretive, awesomely powerful race called The Guardians from the planet Oa, and the human hero and New Genesis operative Alan Scott. The Green Lantern Corps were instrumental in organizing the more lawful empires of the galaxy into the Alliance, which confronted the threat posed by the aggressor races supported and prodded into war by Darkseid. Modeled after Alan Scott's heroic persona on Earth, the source of the Green Lanterns power are the miraculous Power Rings constructed for them by the Guardians. These rings channel an amazingly versatile and powerful green energy field whose only limitation is an inability to affect anything colored yellow. The exact nature of this green light is unknown, although several scientists suspect it might be a single, malleable wavelength of the elemental energy of The Source. Despite their power, the Green Lantern Corps make it a point to stay out of mundane galactic political matters, acting only as arbiters and intermediaries between the major governments. This aversion to seeking political influence has served the Corps well, but their nascent reputation as incorruptible beacons of universal justice was dealt a crippling blow recently with the revelation of the monstrous betrayal of the peace process by one of the Corps' most prominent members, Sinestro. The Lanterns are currently redoubling their efforts to rebuild the galaxy in an effort to resuscitate their reputation. [Ted Brengle]

The Imperial Guard of the Shi'Ar

Personal security detail assigned to the sovereign of the Shi'Ar. Comprised of the greatest warriors from throughout their empire, recruitment into the Guard is considered one of the greatest honors the Shi'Ar can bestow. Renowned for their skill in battle as well as their loyalty, the reputation of the Guard was recently rocked by the first-ever rift to form in their ranks. Most stayed loyal to the Emperor D'Ken, but a smaller faction, led by Gladiator, argued that their true duty lay with the greater the Shir'Ar Empire, which was being destroyed by D'Ken's lunatic reign. Thus, this faction transferred their allegiance to D'Ken's sister, Lilandra. Following Liandra's successful coup, the majority of the Guard escaped along with D'Ken and served as security for D'Ken's exiled court in K'te space. Later, D'Ken pledged their assistance to assist in hunting down Zero Man as he tried to make his way to the peace conference on Dressilus. They, along with their Skrull allies and the traitorous Green Lantern Sinestro, confronted Zero Man and his comrades on a passenger liner outside the Dressilus system, but were unable to stop them. The Imperial Guard were able to escape, however, and their current whereabouts are unknown, although they are no doubt close to the side of D'Ken wherever he many be. Their recent escapades have left the Guard with a burning hatred for the "traitor" Gladiator, and a grudging respect for the human hero Wonder Man. The members of the Guard loyal to D'Ken include the combat robot Warstar, the neuro-whip wielding Hussar, the immensely strong Smasher, and the pyrotic Starbolt. Back in the Shi'Ar Empire, Gladiator is currently working to form a new Imperial Guard to serve the Shi'Ar, but as with all aspects of the empire's reconstruction, this is going slowly. The Junior G-Men - A group of New York street kids who solved crimes during World War II. They included Ebony White, Rick Jones, Brooklyn, Sammy, Whitey, Specs and Kilroy. The group briefly resurfaced in the early `50s as "The Boy Detectives." Ebony and Sammy went on to be assistants to The Spirit. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Justice Society Of America (1942 - 1947) - America's first supergroup, the JSA was a potent force in American society and helped change the world. Although they had to sit out the majority of World War II due to the effects of Hitler's magical Spear of Destiny, the early 40s were arguably the peak of the group's influence. Formed largely by Uncle Sam, the core members included such legends as Green Lantern, Stonewall, The Flash, The Prowler, Blue Beetle, The Gecko and the golden age Red Knight. Retirements and deaths took their toll on the organization, though, and by the end of the war the JSA was a shadow of its former glory. The few remaining members of the JSA officially disbanded the organization in 1947 after the death of The Flash. [Ted Brengle]

The Justice League Of America I (1954 - 1955) - Rising from the ashes of the JSA, the Justice League had an even more sweeping mandate than the original JSA, and often had to defend the entire world from the malevolent designs of a new generation of even more dangerous super criminals. Formed with the aid of such scientific and business luminaries as Lex Luthor, Ted Knight and Tony Stark, the JLA was a cutting edge organization that was astonishingly well equipped and outfitted. Between this and the lure of celebrity that was now also a component of the JLA, soon almost every metahuman hero and masked vigilante in America was at least a satellite member. Although this Justice League's career was short, it was lively, and the JLA often tangled with a wide variety of incredibly dangerous menaces, including Magneto, Darkseid, The Patchwork Man, and--most importantly--Legion. The core members of the first JLA included The Joker, Harley Quinn, Daredevil, Zero Man, The Amazing Ghost Fighter, Blue Beetle, Spider-Man, Titan and the silver age Red Knight. The first Justice League Of America was dissolved by Executive Order during the Legion Crisis in late 1955.  [Ted Brengle]

The Justice League Of America II (1955) - Formed by the Legion-controlled President Eisenhower, this evil aberration was mercifully short lived, but still caused incalculable havoc and misery throughout the nation. This new JLA was packed with sociopaths and misfits, and Legion's repressive regime wasted little time putting them to work crushing dissent and performing atrocities to keep the country in line through fear. Members of this gang of thugs included the impostor Captain America (Clayface), The American Knight(s), The Apostle, "Eternal Flame" (The Grand Dragon), "Lady Liberty" (The Iron Maiden), "Kid Edison" (Electro), and "The Minuteman" (Moses Mayhem), among other supervillains given secret pardons, different costumes and new identities in exchange for their service as government enforcers. This mockery of the JLA was put out of business permanently when Legion was destroyed during the climactic battle for Washington D.C. [Ted Brengle]

The Justice League Of America III (1956 - ) - The latest version of the JLA features a streamlined roster and back-to-basics approach, more akin to the original JSA, eschewing the flashy excesses that helped Legion turn the American people against the first Justice League. Formed by the real President Eisenhower and headquarterd in Metropolis, members of the current Justice League include Captain America, Zero Man, The Amazing Ghost Fighter, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Green Goblin II, Venom, Captain Marvel, Mentalon, Fugue and Phoenix. Labyrinth - Criminal organization created by the enigmatic Nathaniel Dusk for the purpose of world domination. In its original incarnation, Labyrinth employed “gadflies” (The Riddler;  False-Face); “leaders” (The Iron Maiden); and “enforcers” (The Porcupine; The Six-Headed Mummy; Solomon Grundy). This version was destroyed by the JLA in 1954. Dusk has recently returned, however, and reformed the group. Although the new Labyrinth was unsuccessful in its plan to gain control of the Kingpin's criminal empire and the minds of several members of the JLA, little damage was done to the group itself and it remains a significant threat to the world at large. **The Legion of Doom – A so-called “Anti-Justice League,” assembled by the diabolical Red Skull and comprised of the usual assortment of B-listers (or lower), including Kronos, the Mad Thinker and his Awesome Android, The Penguin, Retik the Moon Monster, Toyman, Gremlin, Porcupine II, Tarantulina and The Shade, who actually turned out to be an inside agent for the Justice League. Needless to say, their plan, involving temporal mischief and an invasion launched from the moon, was crushed by the JLA and the ESC. (Adapted by Steve “Sanson” Mollett) [Ted Brengle]

Lexcorp - Cutting-edge R&D firm created and run by Lex Luthor. Lexcorp is a massive enterprise which often receives government defense contracts. It is also the chief patron of the JLA. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Men In Black - Mysterious organization which has been trying to provide security and regulate alien activities on Earth for a very long time. Their agents appear as no-nonsense, closemouthed, humorless, stereotypical government spooks in immaculate black suits and dark sunglasses. They operate under a cloud of secrecy, as extraterrestrials living on Earth is not the recent (and relatively rare) phenomenon that most people believe it to be. As human society is adapting quickly to the knowledge of aliens among them, the MiB predict they will someday soon go public, but not yet, as the magnitude of the alien presence on Earth (and the long-term secrecy surrounding it) is still judged a potentially destabilizing revelation. The MiB share some organizational history with both CURE and the original Leagues Of Extradorinary Gentlemen, the latter being largely responsible for the MiB's good diplomatic relations with many of the races on Mars. For most of its existence, the MiB have known more about the galaxy and its major races than almost anyone else on Earth (although most of their information has come from political refugees from nearby star systems, so it can be very spotty in places), but this level of exclusive knowledge is rapidly diminishing now that open aliens like Zero Man and Genni-Cide have begun to publicly share what they know of the galaxy and its inhabitants with scientists and governments. The MiB is aware of many of the major galactic empires, but is not in contact with any of them, and prefers it that way, to be honest, as they all could squash Earth like a bug. The MiB have recently joined forces with the newly formed E.S.C. and are desperate to send agents offworld: Word has reached the MiB that a member of the Argo expedition signed a contract with The Network during mankind's first official foray outside the solar system. The Meta Avengers - A youth corps created by Magneto in answer to Prof. Charles Xavier’s efforts. He tested them against the New Metas, and lost all of them in one way or another as a result.  The members included Klaatu, Equinox, Derailer, Bitter Girl, Fenris, Kara, Wildshot, Cockroach-Man and Beanbag. The New Metas - Nickname for the combined students of Xavier’s School for the Gifted.  Their capability to work as a team was first tested by an unexpected confrontation with Magneto’s Meta Avengers. The members include Wolverine, Cyclops, Josiah, Iceman, Raven, Seraph, Scaramouche II, Nightcrawler and Aqualad. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Pentacle - Axis black-bag/war-tech cell operating out of Innsmouth, Mass. in 1942. The five "points" (agents) were Dr. Otto Von Niemann, Dr. Gustav Niemann, Kali, Murder Legendre, and The Druid. When the Justice Society disrupted their activities, they were busy making zombie-proto-shoggoths from dead German soldiers. All were jailed except Otto Von Niemann, who was shot and (believed) killed by The Prowler; and Murder Legendre, who escaped. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

**The Perfect Crime Club – Assemblage of mostly Gotham City-based criminals (The Gremlin, False-Face, The Riddler, The Bookworm, The Pied Piper) who banded together to stage a series of high profile crimes. Roundly thwarted by The Gotham Knights. (Created by Steve “Sanson” Mollet) [Ted Brengle]

The Red Knight Corps - (AKA the American Knight Corps) - Hand chosen by Henry Peter Gyrich from among the US Military's finest soldiers, Derek Marshal, Lance Ashby, and Scott Williams were the first three men to participate in Otto Rifenberg's Red Knight Corps which was created to mimic the USSR's Crimson Dynamo project.  Each member trained extremely hard for the honor and displayed a great deal of skill with the new battle armor. Gyrich ordered Archie Goodwin, the Red Knight, to train the Red Knight Corps, an honor which Goodwin did not seem to appreciate. The American Knight project later drafted far more unstable soldiers into the program, and the entire corps fought the JLA on numerous occasions up to and including The Battle For D.C. Eight suits of American Knight armor were known to be created, but only four have been accounted for thus far. Most of the soldiers involved in the project have also since disappeared. Derek Marshal, Lance Ashby and Scott Williams did not desert like the others, however, and were eventually court marshaled for their involvement in the Legion fiasco.  The military tribunal decided that despite quitting the corps before the true scope of the plot was revealed, the three knew enough about what Otto von Rifenberg was doing to be held accountable.  Found guilty of dereliction of duty in not reporting Rifenberg’s activities, the three were dishonorably discharged.  Immediately after the decision, the three were contacted by Magneto who offered to bring them into his brotherhood.  Feeling betrayed and angry by the country they had served, the three apparently agreed. The Rogues Gallery of Super Villains - A loose confederation of Central City super villains who confronted The Flash at least twice during the early-mid 40s. Despite their combined efforts, Flash defeated them both times. Members included The Mirror Master, The Top, The Trickster, Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, and The Pied Piper. The Santa Gang - Five out-of-work department store Santas who banded together in 1955 to rip off the department stores that had fired them. Based in Gotham, they were easily apprehended by The Joker, Harley Quinn and The Amazing Ghost Fighter. Out on parole, they were back to their olds tricks the next Christmas, this time as hired muscle for Jingle Belle, who armed them with super devices based on designs she stole from STAR Labs and then perfected. The devices were unstable, however, and broke down when they attacked a Christmas Charity Ball. Tipped off by The Joker, who has figured out Jingle Belle's crime pattern and knew they would hit the ball next, the Gotham PD was waiting for them there and took them into custody. All five of them are now at Riker's and the chance of them being paroled again in time for next Christmas seems very remote. [Ted Brengle] 

The Sentinels

A class of giant, robotic killing machine designed to hunt down and destroy metahumans. This theoretical "final solution" to the metahuman problem was devised years earlier by the NSA and Senator Robert Kelley, but was only pulled out of mothballs and given a full go-ahead during the Legion Crisis. The hunter/killer robots, several stories tall and bristling with weapons, were manufactured by the dozens and were ultimately responsible for the deaths of the Red Knight and NoMan among others. Eventually they were all destroyed during The Battle For D.C. and the factories that made them shut down. From planned manufacturing runs, it is clear that Legion was planing to soon take the Sentinel's anti-metahuman crusade worldwide--whether the rest of the world wanted it or not. It is theorized Legion hoped that the threat of giant, homicidal American robots flying into foreign countries and killing their citizens would lead either to quick capitulation and an American Empire, or a nuclear conflagration. The Sentinels Of Liberty

American brown shirt organization and nascent secret police force fronted by the impostor Captain America during the Legion Crisis. This fascist throwback was the brainchild of National Security Advisor Albert Hollis Sunderland. Sentinels Of Liberty shock troops, culled from fanatical true believers inside the military and The Sunderland Corporation, quickly gained a dark reputation throughout the nation, stifling freedom at every turn. In the end, however, Sunderland grievously overestimated the appeal of fascism in the country and the expected groundswell of support never materialized; a fact that helped to seal Legion's doom. S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate) - Rumored global defense organization that The Taskforce is said to be evolving into following the defeat of The Patchwork Man. Nick Fury is reportedly heavily involved, and scuttlebutt in the intelligence community has it that a very public announcement will come as soon as the negotiations with several governments are finished and the international treaties are signed. Stark Industries - High tech R&D company created and run by Tony Stark. The company is one of the JLA’s patrons, being partnered with Archie Goodwin and employing NoMan. The central offices are in Los Angeles. (Adapted by Ted Brengle) [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Suicide Squad - When Harold W. Smith created CURE, he decided an enforcement arm was necessary.  He began drafting well-known vigilantes from across the country as a voluntary enforcement team, unofficially led by CURE agent Modesty Blaise.  While not a close-knit team, the Suicide Squad is quite effective.  The charter members included Modesty Blaise, The Avenger, The Gray Ghost, Darkman, The Crimson Fury, The Spirit and The Professional.  When The Spirit was apparently killed during the Legion Crisis, Smith recruited The Green Hornet & Kato to take up the slack. Almost all of these operatives have since been mind-wiped to ensure CURE's security. Darkman, however, learned of what was planned and vanished before he could processed. He is no longer a member of the Squad and his current activities and agenda are unknown. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Super Axis- The Super Axis was formed in 1942 under direct orders from Adolph Hitler and was defeated by the Justice Society of America shortly thereafter. Their goal was to come to America and defeat the JSA and act as a prelude to an attack by Ubermann, the Third Reich's new ultimate weapon. It didn't work. Membership included Baron Blitzkrieg, Kristallnacht, Yojimbo, Iron Cross, and Verdun. (See individual entries). [Tom "Niko" Bolenbaugh]

The Supreme Pack - First appearing during the Legion Crisis, the origin of The Supreme Pack is unknown. The group operated in the southwestern United States as agents of the criminal government and satellite members of Legion's "Justice League." Supreme Pack is a single family, the Groves; Andrew (Karate Speedster), Lidia (Dragon Woman), Michael (Wolf Strike), Edward (Masked Virtuoso), Robert (Element Man), and matriarch Melissant (Mother Cat). After the fall of Legion, Wolf Strike and Dragon Woman parted ways from the family. [Chad Wilson]

The Sunderland Corporation - Large military contractor with rumored links to CIA and NSA Black Budget Operations. Evidence found at a Sunderland Corporation office in Hub City suggests that the company was involved in Heroin smuggling as well. An indispensable ally of the criminal government, the company was prosecuted out of existence in 1956 after the fall of Legion. Founded in 1939 by General Albert Hollis Sunderland (Retired). "The Taskforce" - Top secret think-tank that was founded by Archie Goodwin and was tasked with only one goal: Study The Patchwork Man and develop a way to neutralize him, by any means necessary. For years, only the highest echelons of intelligence and the JLA ever even heard the whispers that this organization even existed. Rumors swirled of a close association between it, Adrian Veidt, the remains of T.H.U.N.D.E.R., MI5 and CURE. One very popular rumor had it that the Suicide Squad was the field arm of "The Taskforce," but that operatives as highly ranked as MacCleary (and possibly Smith) weren't even aware of it. While this was incorrect, the two groups were closely allied and had similar origins and contacts within the same special unit of British Military Intelligence which had created  England's League of Extraordinary Gentleman (the world's first recorded superteam) and assisted in organizing a later American variant of it. The activities of both Leagues are still classified and their existence (not to mention their roles in defending civilization from various threats) remains completely unknown to the general public. Formed around the few remaining remnants of England's League, and what remained of the organizational skeleton left behind from T.H.U.N.D.E.R., The Taskforce was officially founded in November, 1954, after months of hard work by Archie Goodwin which began the day after The Patchwork Man reappeared in March, 1954. In September, 1956, The Taskforce revealed itself fully to the JLA. Headquartered at their surreal secret base designed to cloud The Patchwork Man's senses, the governing council, know as "The Working Group" (with some seats left vacant through death, disappearance or other factors), was comprised of:

During The First Patchwork Man War, the Amazing Ghost Fighter was inducted as #13, "The Shaman." Now that The Patchwork Man has been defeated, many of The Working Group are retiring, but a few now seem to be working toward moving the organization into a new public phase as a global security force of considerably reach and resources. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. - A super scientist [name classified] created fantastic technology in the early 1940s, but was killed by a Nazi agent. FDR ordered the creation of a “non-existent” agency to use the technology for National defense. By 1946 the multi-national agency was formed: The Higher United Nations Defense Enforcement Reserves (T.H.U.N.D.E.R.) The agency had several regular agents and four “super-agents”: Dynamo; NoMan; Menthor; and Werewolf (see separate listings). The agency later “recruited” The Prowler as a govt-sponsored hit man. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. was destroyed by The Patchwork Man in 1954 after getting a little too close to the facts surrounding him. NoMan has since re-emerged, and has gained the patronage of Stark Industries. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Squad - First string, non-powered agent team for T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Members included Guy Gilbert (team leader; former Special Forces),  Dynamite [John Adkins] (demolitions; former SEAL), Kitten [Kathryn Kane] (technologist), and Weed [William Wylie] (locksmith; escape artist). The Squad was killed during the Patchwork Man’s attack on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

The Vendetti Family - A New York-based crime family, the Vendettis control the docks on the east side of the city. They are very influential, but very discrete in their public appearances, preferring to keep a low profile. They are firm supporters of The Kingpin. [Chad Wilson]

*The Warlords - Subterranean race/culture of near-men whose ultimate aim is to conquer the surface world. Due to lesser numbers, the Warlords use stealth and espionage in their attacks on the more heavily armed surface world. Warlords are green-skinned humanoids with large, yellow, nocturnal eyes; wide, slit mouths; and small ears. They are completely hairless and smooth-skinned. They sometimes wear full, gold-colored armor. Their culture is very militaristic and technocratic. They have special burrowing craft for travel beneath the earth, and to and from the surface. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. fought a secret war against them beginning in 1946.  The term "warlords" was based on the "anglicized" term for their leader, "The Warlord". T.H.U.N.D.E.R. proceeded to apply the term to the entire culture. After T.H.U.N.D.E.R. fell, The Warlord allied himself with the Iron Colonel Stormfront and assisted in the conquest of Magneto's secret undersea fortress, eager to use its advanced technology in the service of his continuing campaign against the surface world. These grand plans, however, were thwarted definitively by the arrival of the JLA; The Warlord himself dying at the hands of NoMan. They were quiet for a time and unknown to the general public until they allied with HYDRA and staged a grand assault on the surface in late 1956. The global campaign went very  poorly, however, thanks largely to the Suicide Squad, and the Warlords are now thought to be extinct.  [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Apokolips - Great Darkseid’s domain, Apokolips was a dismal world of fire-pits, war machines and elite shock troops. It was utterly annihilated, along with New Genesis, as Darkseid's masterplan to access the elemental power of The Source reached fruition. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane - Founded by Dr. Amadeus Arkham, this facility contains the criminally insane of Gotham City. Psilence, though not a criminal, was sent there due to some promising treatment techniques being employed there. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Belle-Reve Federal Penitentiary - Located in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, this maximum-security prison was created to house meta-human offenders. Its first warden was Dr. Edgar Parker, who was later discovered to be The Crimson Ghost. He was replaced by Maxwell Lord. The futuristic security system created by time-travelling criminal Prof. Joseph Doakes (The Fifth Avenue Phantom) is under scrutiny by S.T.A.R. Labs, Lexcorp and Stark Industries. The Crimson Ghost’s large-size “nullifier” is still the first-line-of-security against the meta-human inmates. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

"Crux Of Empires" - Colloquial term for the small sliver of neutral space that forms a buffer between the boarders of the Skrull, Kree, Shi'Ar and Warpsmith empires. Sparsely populated, the Network maintains a significant trade presence in the area. The other major local settlement is the independent planet Dressilus, where the treaties that ended the last two galactic wars were negotiated and signed.  [Ted Brengle]

The Hall Of Justice

The headquarters of the Justice League of America. The first Hall Of Justice was built by LexCorp in 1954 and destroyed two years later by the Sentinels and the impostor Captain America during the Legion Crisis. Following the defeat of Legion, a new Hall Of Justice was commissioned by the United States government and provided to the JLA as a gift from the American people. This new Hall Of Justice was completed in early 1956 and is located in the center of Liberty Park, downtown Metropolis. [Ted Brengle; Image provided by Steve Mollett]

Hod - The Warpsmith homeworld and capital, Hod also houses the massive warp batteries that are the source of the Warpsmiths' power. As the Warpsmiths' original home star went off the main sequence 3,836 years ago, Hod now "tours" the Warpsmith Empire. Empty orbits have been cleared specifically for Hod within the temperate zones of all the Warpsmiths' subject systems, but Hod no longer requires a star to sustain its biosphere, as it is ringed by a network of satellites that can simulate solar radiation as needed. The location of Hod changes from week to week, and in times of emergency, such as the recent Galactic War, day to day. [Ted Brengle]

Lunar Station Beaumont

Located on the dark side of Earth's moon, this is the main base and headquarters for the Earth Space Corps. It has recently been renamed to honor Ensign Edward Beaumont, who died at the hands of Zero Man, but was actually another victim of Dr. Johnathon Crane, The Scarecrow. New Genesis - Paradise-like world that was home to Izaya the Highfather and the New Gods. Its destruction, along with that of its exact opposite, Apokolips, signaled the end of Darkseid's participation in the Fourth Galactic War. Much like Apokolips, several of New Genesis' inhabitants are believed to have escaped just prior to their world's obliteration. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]

Oa - Home of the mysterious Guardians and headquarters of the Green Lantern Corps. Oa is located far outside of known space, thousands of light years from the centers of galactic government. Little is known of Oa, except that it is the sole planet orbiting a very old green giant star, and by all rights it should not be even remotely habitable, yet it is. Many theorize that Oa is an artificial planet constructed in dim antiquity by the Guardians to house their particular power node connected to The Source. If members of the Green Lantern Corps--the few individuals allowed to visit Oa--know the truth of this, they aren't saying. [Ted Brengle]

The Phantom Zone - Colloquial team for a dimension that seems to exist in a tightly - wound "pocket" far beyond the normal bounds of known time and space. The Phantom Zone exists is some strange boundary state between matter and energy, and objects traveling into the zone are converted into this largely insubstantial form as well, removing their needs for physical sustenance. As the passage of time is greatly slowed within the zone, living inhabitants are rendered practically immortal and ageless, but are also unable to physically interact with each other or anything else in this all-but-empty, churning gray void. For reasons that still remain unclear, while it is relatively easy to open a stable gateway from the surrounding universe into The Phantom Zone, it is all but impossible to create a gateway from inside The Phantom Zone back into the outside universe, thus those who are dispatched there (or unwisely journey there of their own accord), almost never come back. Because of this, several civilizations, most notably the Kryptonians, have used the Phantom Zone as a convenient storehouse for criminals and political prisoners for many years. Human mystics have also been aware of the zone for centuries and have used it for similar purposes at times, although they tend to call it "Limbo." It is conjectured that The Phantom Zone may form the buffer between the Material and Astral Planes, and that the theoretical highest quantum levels of hyperspace may link to The Phantom Zone. Starholm - Homeworld of the Master Traders and the nominal headquarters of the Network, Starholm is located on the other side of the galaxy, in the frontier beyond Shi'Ar space. While most of the administrative support for the Network exists via the guild conclaves located on member worlds and at trading hubs, a voyage to Starholm is often the last hope for those wishing to resolve substantial grievances or contractual disputes with the Network. The journey to Starholm can be long and perilous, however, and is often undertaken only by fools and the desperate. [Ted Brengle]

"The Village"
Peculiar main base of operations for The Taskforce located on an island in the Adriatic Sea. It appears at first to be a simple English summer resort, but very quickly various oddly surreal touches become obvious; Dixieland jazz music is played through loudspeakers everywhere, candy- striped attendants in bowler hats hover, and no one is ever referred to by name, but instead by a number which they wear on badges featuring a silhouette of a penny farthing bicycle. This bizarre "community" was specially designed by Taskforce member #8, "The Psychologist." He theorized, based on his own work on the human collective unconscious, that a rigorously banal, yet aggressively artificial, surreal and intentionally dream-like environment, where individuals were replaced by numbers and archetypes, would easily fade into the background "noise" of the collective unconscious and be very difficult for The Patchwork Man to lock onto. It worked marvelously, and The Patchwork Man spent years trying to find The Village, but to no avail; it's continued secrecy and security being the first major victory over The Patchwork Man and one that was known to drive him into a frustrated rage whenever he was confronted with it. The Village played a large role as a staging area during the recent war against the Patchwork Man. With his defeat and incarceration off-world, what will now become of The Village remains unknown. Xavier’s School for the Gifted - Located outside Metropolis, this boarding school is where Prof. Chas. Xavier teaches young metahumans and trains them to use their abilities for the common good. [Steve "Sanson" Mollett]
