I've been told that, as a consultant, I should never give out free advice.
But if I don't give you some samples of my thinking how can you tell if you'd be
comfortable being my client. Like all free advice on the Internet though,
you'll have to use this at your own risk.
- My thoughts on Sweat
Equity. This was originally a handout for a seminar I moderated a few
years ago at an SBA small business conference.
- I've collected a lot of different lists over the years that describe what
records you should keep and for how long. This
list, available on line from an accounting firm, is the best I've seen so
far. Even though they show financial planning as one of their services,
they're located in Maryland so we're not really competitors.
- My thoughts on practical record
retention. In the real world there's more to it than just keeping the bean
counters, lawyers and government happy.
- Want to know your estimated life expectancy? Try this site. Since this
calculator is based on sex as well as current age it gives a more realistic
estimate than the politically correct unisex tables used by the IRS and most
insurance companies. Try both sexes for a given age to see the difference.
Also, remember that as you age your projected age at death also increases, but
not as fast as your increase in age. Experiment a little by entering
increasingly older ages to see why you need to take this into account in your
planning.
- Finally, for hardened do-it-your-self types, here are some
links to government sites of potential interest:
Internal
Revenue Service - Digital Daily and Home Page
Connecticut - Department
of Revenue Services
Massachusetts -
Revenue/Taxes
New York State -
Department of Taxation & Finance
SEC - Securities &
Exchange Commission
