Wofford prepared this summer to compete with the Tigers. Clemson prepared for a cakewalk. It was the second quarter before Clemson realized they had a game to play.

The Terriers came charging out the gate and ran over the Tigers for a 14-7 lead before Clemson woke up and scored 31 consecutive points to beat Wofford 38-14.

The "wingbone" offense, a three back set, proved highly effective against a speedy Clemson defense as the Tigers over-pursued and missed crucial tackles.

As hard as Wofford tried to pull an upset, the lack of a passing game and fatigue eventually took their toll. In an instant, the momentum turned as a bad pitch on a fourth-and-one option play was scooped up by Eric Meekins for a 29 yard touchdown and the lead. The Tigers continued to roll from there. Wofford ended the day with 276 yards on the ground and only 36 yards passing.

Aaront Hunt kicked a career high 43 yard field goal. His previous had been 31.
