Credit Reporting Agencies
I know.. this one is a no brainer. Everybody hates credit reporting agencies. We’re talking about the companies that
maintain the permanent file on you so if you ever want to buy a car or a house,
these companies provide your credit rating. Well I just got my credit reports from the big three
companies. And there were so many
wrong things on there that I’ll bore you if I describe them all. I’ll give you some of my
favorites. Some of the
mistakes were so cleverly stupid that I almost
didn’t catch them. Examples:
·
Experian had a date of birth of
5/25/1952 for me. Where’d the hell
they get this? I was born on
8/12/1965.
·
Experian also had my driver’s license
wrong. They list it as a New
Jersey number. Not only do I have
a Maryland driver’s license. But
when I did live in Jersey, I didn’t have the number they said I had. Idiots!
·
Trans Union had me going under the
alias of “Thomas P. Tilghman”.
This is particularly disturbing since “Tilghman” was the last name of my
ex-girlfriend. I don’t even want
to know how this came about. But
I’ve never gone under an alias in my life.
·
Trans Union had a Macy’s credit card
listed for me that, according to the sheet, I opened in May of 1969. That puts me at three years old when I
opened my first credit card account.
·
Equifax only had one mistake which was
the bank’s fault, not there’s.
However, I thought I dealt with that mistake last year.
These companies are embarrassing in their lack of ability to maintain
accurate data. I urge everyone to
get copies of their credit reports regularly. Maryland residents get a free one every year. It’s worth it. If you want to know how to go about
getting your credit report, email me.
