Listener and Viewer Comments from the Tom the Jazzman Web Site
http://pages.prodigy.net/tomthejazzman Enjoyed your tribute to Stanley Turrentine. I taped it Sunday PM and I have been enjoying it on tape in the car. Thanks again for "the Jazz Man" J J P in Kinston Again, many thanks for your excellent Jazzzzz (intentional) progamming on Sunday eve. Some of my favorite artists are Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, George Shearing, and a lady one doesn't hear much of any longer, but I enjoy, Chris Connor. By the way do you ever play any of Stan Kenton and June Christy or Anita O'Day? They are all good. Thanks again JJP in Kinston Those photos, and the way you have them on site, are fantastic!!! Jo Ann, Fresno, Cal. Very, very impressive photos! It's one thing to take snapshots, but to catch "that" creative" moment takes an informed eye - I know! Good Job! In Harmony, Michael M. in Nashville, TN OK, you play great Jazz, are a great tour director, take good pictures, know where all the good restaurants are located and a wonderful cook. What other hidden talents do you have hidden from us? Brenda in Greenville Thanks for the note re Diana Krall. On September 23 we'll be at the Firebird Cafe on W.46th to catch Jackie and Roy. I want my two sons and their wives, they live in NY, to see these old vets perform before they hang-it-up. Charles Keep up the great work..... I appreciate the communications. Tommy in Kinston First, may I say how much I enjoy your Sunday evening program. I was particularly pleased two weeks ago when you opened your program with the Antonio Carlos Jobim composition "Wave" that featured Oscar Peterson. Would love to hear more of Jobim's brazilian jazz and if possible more song stylings by the late great Miss Ella Fitzgerald. J.J.P. in Kinston I am enjoying the music tonight. I could listen to Jazz day and night. Susan in New Bern A new found career....great photos .....thanks for sending them. RR in Los Angeles Really super quality shots, Tom. They really add to the site. Looking forward to seeing more from various performances around the country including some of the ECU and 'down east' festivals. MW in Smithfield Wow. those are great shots. were those taken with the sony digital camera? JM in D.C. Checked out the photographs.......did you take them when you were in NY? Good show. if you did! Keep up the great work. CCB in Beaufort Good clarity on your photo's , had to hit refresh a couple of times to get them to completly load but it was worth it , looked as if weather was great. KW in Greenville I LOVE THESE PHOTOS! SG in Brooklyn Tom, these were great! You're quite the photog. IT was especially good to see Brubeck playing still. Cheers! CZ in New Bern Great pictures. I love the Cassandra Wilson! EJ in Boston I really miss your show. Love your web page and all the info. LB in Asheville I was there in 1997 with roy Hargrove's group and it was beautiful...just like it is on the photos. I am looking forward to returning. Musically yours. EC in Durham Tom listened to you Sunday night all the way to Raleigh and then ran out of signal. Good job. JP in Kinston We thoroughly enjoyed your program last night. Music like that just isn't available like that anywhere else around here. Keep up the good work. FW in Ayden I really miss hearing you "live" on Sunday evenings. Living in Ashville we have Public Radio, but they don't play jazz like you. I miss your program, insight, knowledge and love for the music. I will continue to pledge if you will just send me some tapes from your program. LB in Asheville Beautiful Tom! I just finished checking out all the info. Keep up the great work and keep 'em listening. JG in Fort Lauderdale, Florida I really appreciate the time and energy you devote to Jazz and your tireless efforts to share information with us. I really admire your dedication. MM in Hubert The difference between you and the rest is simply this: Yours is not a jazz program, nor is it a jazz show. I consider your Sunday evenings a "JAZZ EXPERIENCE." By the way, I like your idea about the Web page. SR in Falkland You are right when you said that just when we think we know what you are going to play next, you surprise us. The flamenco-style music was wonderful! I didn't catch the name of the album, but you said we most likely couldn't find it locally anyway. Please send me the information. Thanks. We really have benefited from your excursions to the "real" world of jazz. I really like living in eastern NC, but without you we would miss out on a lot of good music. We really appreciate you and all the hard work you do on our behalf (not the least of which is dealing with people who don't think jazz has a place in the world!) KT in Greenville Your evening of jazz is the best I have ever heard. You constantly amaze me with your in-depth knowledge. SR in Falkland Hi Tom, We've been traveling a lot so I've been a sporadic listener this summer.. what I have heard is inspiring as usual. This is a great site!! SB in Greenville Donna and I really do like your show. I have listened to you since you had Tom the Jazzman on Sunday night out of Chocowinity. DD in Washington Thank you for taking my call last Sunday night and for the email. I checked out the Beck and Bruno CD "Polarity." It did not have the renditions of "Time After Time" (Cyndi Lauper tune) or "Blackbird" Beatles) that you played in succession on your program on June 4th. I also listened to the CD, and they don't seem to play with the same style as the duo on your program. As I recall, the guitars might have been acoustic - not amped like Beck & Bruno. Also, when you said the title of "Blackbird," I think you said it in French. Sorry if this is confusing, but I need to find out who played those tunes! I would appreciate any other suggestions. Thank you, and I hope you had a good trip to NYC. By the way, we listen to WBGO all the time. JK in NYC Hooray! I found the mysterious CD! It is Luc & Birelli's "Duet" album. Thank you for the last tip - I love the album. I am really enjoying listening to it - especially to "Time After Time" & "Blackbird." Thanks again for helping me with the treasure hunt. JK in NYC hi TJ! I am excited about the wonderful intriguing new things you display on your Web Site. SS in Goldsboro Keep up the good work! SB in Morehead City Tom, I know all will be great - got to miss it - leaving today for the International Trombone Festival in Utrecht. GB in Greenville Tom, The show has been great, and I have been painting to it, for a show I am entering in Washington. The trip was quite enriching to you, and it shows in the new stuff you have. Keep educating us all about what is happening in the real jazz world. Thanks, EM in New Bern Great show tonight. The variety was the best in a long time. DR in Goldsboro I hope all is well. Willie and I enjoyed meeting you. Thank you for the show last night, and especially for playing Steve Kuhn. I think you effectively captured the WTEB Radio East audience's curiosity for his and Ms. Jordan's upcoming Wilmington, NC performance. What is the name of his album that you played for us, and are the songs you played on the air from the same album or some other(s)? JA in New Bern Cool site, it's bookmarked. Favorite artists: Krull, sinatra, hancock, sting, Marsalis (either one), Brubeck, Sade, bela fleck, (victor wooten especially), Benson. My Least favorite stuff is blues. KF in Greenville Great show. PN in Greenville Yours is the only "Public Radio East" program that I actively listen to. FS in New Bern Please post a picture of Tom the Jazzman at his radio microphone on this site. BM in Newport News Boy! You're doing well with the hits on your website! Doesn't that make you feel pleased now that you have a URL of your own? 'way to go, Tom! MM in Greenville Your tribute to Louis Armstong last night was outstanding! It was very tastefully done; you really out did yourself. Thanks a million. SR in Falkland I am sitting here listening to Tom the Jazzman's tribute to Louis Armstrong. This has not only been an entertaining evening, but Tom has kept the "educational" flavor of this news-oriented organization by including lots of interview clips with highlights from the history of Louis Armstrong and jazz as he spread it through the world. KT in Stokes I have not been able to listen to the entire show, just a lot of it. This is a great one. I could listen to this particular show many times a year and never tire of it. I always have and always will love Satchmo. Thanx for a really great show. RVH in Jamesville Hi Tom, I'm writing from Cripple Creek, Colorado. My brother Chuck B. lives in Beaufort, N.C. and gave me your Email address. I understand your station call numbers are 89.3. We have a Public Radio Station in Denver with the same numbers. KUVO 89.3 (The Oasis In The City) Exclusively jazz, Latin and Chicano. It is sure nice to get the information that you send out and I hope that it will continue. Question, Is Art Farmer still performing in the States or is he sticking pretty much to his turf in Europe? Thanks again. Is your station connected to the Internet so that people outside your broadcasting area can pick up your program? DB in Cripple Creek, Colorado What a terrific idea! I love your site, and am sure that you'll reach a lot of folks with it. Best of luck. I don't get on the web often - maybe once or twice a week - and I've been meaning to thank you for your suggestions concerning my latest recording. However, I didn't see your mailing regarding song titles until after the fact! That particular e-mail showed up sandwiched between two old e-mails I had saved, not at the end of my listings, and I didn't ever see it until last week. Oh, well. The recording went well, and I'm beginning to shop to labels. Do you have any recommendations, and would you be willing to take a listen? Let me know. And keep the jazz going! Warm regards, CF in Cary Finally we can call U a star....you're larger than life....more visible than ever. Wish I could hear your show on the Net. DN in Flint Michigan Thanks so much for the e-mail service.......it is, indeed, a great service! I'll look forward to the information re up-coming concert dates and CDs. CB in Beaufort I was listening to your program when I realized that next weekend will be the Louis Armstrong Centennial, and I will be in Denver (not the one outside of Charlotte, the one in Colorado) visiting grandchildren. Since I'm well aware that WTEB's signal gives out somewhere west of I-95, it looks like I will miss out on whatever observance you may have planned. Any suggestions? CG in Goldsboro You are now on my favorites list. Thanks. And thanks for ALL the wonderful CDs. JR in Montclair, NJ I was visitor # 32. Do I get a prize? BE in Greenville I heard your show for the first time Sunday evening and enjoyed it greatly. I wonder if you might be familiar with a song I heard long ago that would fit beautifully on your program? The title was "We May Never Love Like This Again" and the group was called Etorre Stada (or something that sounded phonetically like that) Look forward to next Sunday P.M. RW in Wilson Keep up the good work. Let's hear it for more jazz on WTEB. JS in Morehead City Happy anniversary. Your programming on Sunday nights is the only reason my wife and I contributed to WTEB this year. We need your work at the station; we appreciate the e-mails, and we look forward to celebrating with your anniversary. Trust me, another night of Tito Puente could only be wonderful. DS in Greenville Congratulations on 16 years - I had no idea you had been commuting for that long. You deserve a tremendous amount of credit for that effort and your on-going work to make our Sunday evenings so enjoyable. AH in Greenville Looking forward to the photos. EP in Wilson |
