Well,
the greatest sporting event in the world is upon us again, and
I'm ready for it! If this season's edition is even half as exciting
as last year's, then it will be quite an event. So what should
our expectations be for this year? Well, look for plenty of "upsets".
I don't necessarily mean in the traditional sense, like a bunch
of 13, 14 and 15 seeds advancing to the Sweet Sixteen. More like,
the media darlings falling to a good, yet mostly unknown team.
For example, teams from the Missouri Valley, or Conference USA
or anyone west of the Mississippi for that matter, could easily
make a run in the Tournament at the expense of the Big East or
ACC.
As
for the players, simply enjoy the multitude of big time scorers
in this Tournament. Obviously, the duo of JJ Redick and Adam
Morrison will get plenty of hype (and deservedly so), but don't
forget others like Iona's Steve Burtt, Cal's Leon Powe and SDSU's
Brandon Heath, most of whom won't be around for another season.
As
for predictions, I won't make too many since this Tournament
is so wide open. If you're gonna force my hand, I would pick
UConn to win it all but don't expect me to bet money on them.
Villanova was my initial vote, but a killer bracket and Allen
Ray's eye injury have put a few doubts in my head, though they're
still a tough matchup for anyone. Below are a few other thoughts
on the Tournament. Enjoy everyone!
