UPDATE!
It's been a long time coming. Well, the #03 was sold in summer of 2004 and has gone to a good home in Illinois where its new owner is slowly putting the car back together. The AFR heads have a new home in Santa Barbara, the custom dash is in florida, and the brakes, CCW wheels, and custom rearend are in my teamates Mike Armstrongs #07 AI west car that I co-drive. Mike and I did well in '04 starting out slowly with his car and were able to dial it in to be a front runner by mid season. This is truly an example of a car anyone could build and win with. There is nothing extra-ordinary with this particular car it is just a super clean, well done car with off the shelf parts and minimal custom fabrication. We had quite a few setbacks, however we took a mid-pack car and made it a track record breaker! In 2004 we were able to determine what reasonable upgrades we needed to make to improve on the car without hurting our budget and Mike is making those over the offseason. We plan on testing the car prior to the AI West opener at California Speedway in March to make sure all the car is sound.
On another note I am heavily involved in a new AI project owned by a close friend of mine. It almost all happened by accident. The cars owner consulted with me about building a basic AI car over a year ago and we ended up planning to build the most well developed AI west car in existence! Our schedules only allow for a minimum amount of time each month to work on the car so progress is very slow, but we hope to have the car out by the end of the season. Needless to say, we are both excited about the project. This is the first time I have had the opportunity to build a car almost entirely my way and I think I have been successful so far. Check it out in the sneak peak link. This car will ROCK!!! Added bonus is that there will be a passenger seat so extreme rides will be available.
