On the grid at California Speedway preparing to qualify. Vageli set the pole for saturdays American Iron race. He also managed to win first on both saturday and sunday. Both victories were hard earned as Ernesto Roco #2 set the pole for sunday. Both Ernesto and Rob Ainscough #99 put up a good fight. Rob and Vageli swapped for first multiple times in saturdays race.

At Buttonwillow on saturday while the American Iron field was on grid, Vageli was repairing some mechanical issues with #3 in the pits and was not able to get on track until after the green flag had dropped and the field was already about a half lap ahead. Trying to catch up on cold tires he spun on the first lap which placed him even further away from the field which was nearly one lap into the race at that point. After that though Vageli drove a very intense and clean race managing to pass nearly the entire race group A and B (probably 30-40 cars) and capture third place.

On sunday Vageli was offered a ride in the #42 car. The seat was set up for it's owner/driver so the controls were quite hard to reach, but regardless Vageli managed to drive the car well taking into consideration that #42 is somewhat differently prepared than #3 and this was Vageli's first time driving #42. After starting third on grid he managed to capture first place in the first few laps, the car was missing early on and eventually quit running. As a result Vageli did not finish sundays race.
It was a gamble, but for an amateur privateer racer with no financial support it was tough for Vageli not to accept a free ride in a supported and very well developed race car.

Sears Point Sweep! After a very successful and intense season, American Iron finally came home to Sears Point and driver Vageli Karas of the Trackboss Motorsports #3 mustang did some serious ass whipping taking first in class both days and even the overall on saturday. Although Vageli is the overall points leader of 2002, because of the way the rules are structured he missed the championship by just a few points. The end couldn't have been better though as being able to put on such a good show at home is something words cannot describe.
