Introduction

The name of this game is Paradox. I named it Paradox because it is possible to move counter clockwise by moving clockwise. It is also possible to move clockwise by moving counter clockwise.

Object of the Game

The object of this game is to capture all of your opponent's discs (similar to Checkers).

Setup

The playing pieces that are used during the game are 8 discs of one color, and 8 discs of another color.

Each player takes 8 of the same colored disc.

The board is made up of eight circles and arcs which are symmetric to the center of the board, and a ninth circle in the center.

Each player places 8 discs of their color on the board as shown in Figure 1. The game always begins with this setup.

Figure 1

Moving and Capturing

One player can only move clockwise to an adjacent space while the other can only move counter clockwise to an adjacent space along the lines of the circles.

A capture consists of jumping your opponent's disc(s), then removing the jumped disc(s) from the board.

An opponent may be jumped if the player's piece is adjacent to the opponent's and there is a vacant space which is adjacent to and on the opposite side of the opponent's piece as the player's piece(similer to Checkers). If this occurs the player may move to this vacant space and remove the opponent's piece from the board.

Rules

1. One player must move clockwise, while the other must move counterclockwise.

2. If a player jumps their opponent and has the opportunity to jump another of the opponent's pieces they may do so.

3. When all of one player's discs are removed from the board, or a player can no longer move, the game is over. The other player is the winner.

4. A player may capture an opponent's piece only if the player's starting and ending positions are on the same circular line for each jump.

5. If a player has the ability to move a piece they must do so.

6. If a player can no longer move the other player is the winner.

7. The game ends in a draw when neither player believes that they have the ability to win.
