Lower Mongaup Cemetery - Mongaup New York =========================================
George Knight, now deceased, a friend of our family was the
owner of Knights Funeral Home in Port Jervis, New York.
George directed me to the site of this cemetery which contained
critical information that linked me to John G. VanAuken and
Emanuel VanAuken (Emanuel is not buried here, that I know, of but
his wife Eunice is).
This cemetery is located near Route 97 at the intersection of the
Mongaup River and the Delaware River near Mongaup, New York.
It is near the Orange/Sullivan county line in the Town of Deerpark.
This location was near a lock on the D&H Canal. The lock is
now gone as it was destroyed to expand RT97 and put in a bridge..
The Cemetery in back in the woods and is hard to see from the road.
An article, in the Union Gazette, described vandalism at the site.
George Knight was contacted
about the incident and said the site was the former family home where
his father was born.
