Memorial for Brad and Peggy VanAuken

Bradford J. VanAuken Sr.

Bradford J. VanAuken, 76, of Walker Street, Holly Hill Florida, died December 19, 1997 in Milford, Pa. at a Milford Care Center. Brad had been recovering from a severe head injury caused by a fall on July 28, 1997. Brad came to the Holly Hill area in 1981 from his native Port Jervis, N.Y. Burial was at Volusia Memorial Park, Ormond Beach, Florida.

Brad was a U.S. Navy Veteran. During World War II he served in the Pacific, Atlantic and Mediterranean Seas aboard a destroyer escort, where he was a torpedo man.

Brad was a retired railroad car inspector for the Erie Lackawana Railroad. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Destroyer-Escort Sailors Association. He was also a member of a Barbershop Chorus.

Brad was a member of one of the oldest familes of the Upper Delaware Valley, near Port Jervis, N.Y. His father, Joseph VanAuken, was a descendent of Marinus VanAken, the immigrant,and Pieternella dePrez. Marinus VanAken settled in Ulster County, N.Y. prior to 1685 and came from Cadzand, Holland. Brads mother Clara Belle Doty VanAuken's ancestry runs back to Edward Doty, who was one of the original pilgrims to immigrate on the Mayflower in 1620. Brad descended from hardy, sturdy, pioneer families. In September, he was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Margaret.

He is survived by three sons, Bradford J. Jr., Williston, Vt.,Stephen K., Shohola, Pa., and Dr. Hugh J., Granger, Ind.; one daughter, Susan LaFauce, Milford, Pa.; 13 grandgrhildren, and two great-grandchildren.


Margaret Adelaide VanAuken

Margaret Adelaide VanAuken, 76, Walker Street, Holly Hill, Florida died Monday, September 29, 1997, at Halifax Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Daytona Beach. Burial was at Volusia Memoria Park, Ormond Beach.

Peggy was a retired clerk for J.C. Penney Company. She also worked as a nurse at the New York Foundling Hospital in New York City prior to her marriage.

Peggy came to the Holly Hill area in 1981 from her native Port Jervis, N.Y. She was member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Daytona Beach, where she was active in the choir and ladies club. She enjoyed crafts, bingo and singing.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Bradford J.; a daughter, Susan C. LaFauce, Milford, Pa.; three sons, Bradford J. Jr., Williston, Vt., Stephen K., Shohola, Pa., and Dr. Hugh J., Granger, Ind.; four sisters, Joan Altes, Daytona Beach, Fl., Jane Jackovich, Port Jervis, N.Y., Mary McGoey, Matamoras, Pa., and Pat Chase, Newburgh, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Peggy was a devoted mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother.
