More Hollywood Forever Stars



 

 

The following is a list of people that were located and/or interred at Hollywood Forever after the book was printed.

ADAMS, John Bertram (b. June 21, 1891 Wharton, TX; d. June 21, 1940 Los Angeles, CA) Major league baseball player, he began his career with the Cleveland Naps in August of 1910 and played with the big leagues until 1919.

BARRYMORE, Gene (b. March 29, 1915; d. June 15, 1984 Los Angeles, CA – Section 13, #721) Illegitimate son of actor John Barrymore, Gene was an actor and comedian.

BURKE, Girard (b. March 31, 1912 Latrobe, PA; d. May 8, 2001 Palm Springs, CA - Abbey of the Psalms, Sanctuary of Worship, #2023) Burke served as a private first class in the U.S. Army. A drummer for over 60 years, he played for nine years at the Palm Springs Raquet Club.

CASTIGLIONI, Iphigenie (b. August 23, 1895 Vienna, Austria; d. July 30, 1963 Hollywood, CA – Section 7, #128) A Viennese actress, she was married to actor Leonid Kinskey. She started her career in New York at the invitation of Max Reinhardt to appear in “Eternal Road.” Actress – 15 films: The Story of Louis Pasteur (1935), Maytime (1937), Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), Funny Face (1957), Rome Adventure (1962). Castiglioni also appeared on a number of television episodes from 1957 to 1963 including: Zane Grey Theatre, The Dick Powell Show, Have Gun – Will Travel, 77 Sunset Strip.

CRUZE, Julie Jane (b. October 24, 1913 Los Angeles, CA; d. 1946 - Abbey of the Psalms, Foyer, behind glass) Daughter of director James Cruze and actress Marguerite Snow. As an infant, Julie appeared in films with her mother.

DAYE, Dulce (b. October 22, 1912 Port Arthur, TX; d. December 1, 1954 Woodland Hills, CA - B Building foyer) Former vice-president of the Screen Actors Guild, Daye was a singer/actress and appeared on The Lux Video Theatre in 1953. Actress - 15 films: Jealousy (1934), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Hollow Triumph (1948), Carrie (1952), Deep In My Heart (1954).

GIBLYN, Charles W. (b. September 6, 1871 Watertown, NY; d. March 14, 1934 Los Angeles, CA – Abbey of the Psalms, Sanctuary of Hope, #508) A pioneer film director, he began his career in 1908. He was the director general for the Thomas Ince studio for a while. He also directed vaudeville acts and stage plays at the Belasco in Los Angeles. Actor – 22 films: The Dancer (1915), Woman Trap (1929), The Secret Six (1931), Tugboat Annie (1934), This Side of Heaven (1934). Director – 72 films: An Indian Legend (1912), Number 239 (1915), The Phantom (1916), Upstairs and Down (1919), Ladies Beware (1927). Writer – 6 films: The Brand of Cain (1914), Her Three Mothers (1915), The Price She Paid (1917), Scandal (1917), The Lesson (1918).

HIRSHBEIN, Peretz (b. November 30, 1880 Poland; d. August 16, 1948 – Los Angeles, CA – Section 14, Row D, Grave 33) Hebrew author & lecturer, best know for his novel “Green Fields.” As a playright, some of his work was produced by the Yiddish Art Theatre. Titles of his work include: “Child of the World,” “The Dew Falls” and “Far Away Corner.” In addition, he authored travel and poetry books and novels. Hirshbein died from Lou Gehrig’s disease. Writer – 3 films: The Rabbi’s Power (1924), Green Fields (1937), Hitler’s Manman (1943).

JOLSON, Lillian (b. January 17, 1890 NY; d. March 13, 1948 Los Angeles, CA – Columbarium, 1st floor) Vaudeville and musical stage actress, Lillian was married to Harry Jolson (brother of Al Jolson). Jolson died of a heart ailment.

McLAGLEN, Arthur (b. June 25, 1888 England; d. January 29, 1972 Los Angeles County, CA - Abbey of the Psalms, Sanctuary of Hope) Arthur’s brothers Victor, Cyril, Kenneth, Clifford and Leopold were all actors. One other brother, Andrew was a director. Actor - 13 films: The Card (1922), Port of Lost Souls (1924), The Russian Affair (1928), King of the Wild (1931), It Happened in Hollywood (1937).

PETKERE, Bernice (b. August 11, 1901 Chicago IL; d. January 7, 2000 Los Angeles, CA – Abbey of the Psalms, Sanctuary of Faith #1273) Petkere began her career in vaudeville on the Pantages Circuit. During her teenage years she sang with a dance band and became a pianist for a publishing company. In the mid-1920s she began writing music and had her first song, “Starlight” published in 1931. Petkerre wrote “Lullaby of the Leaves,” “Close Your Eyes,” “My River Home,” “Stay Out of My Dreams,” “A Mile a Minute,” “Oh Moon,” “Wedding Waltz” and many others. In the late 1930s she moved to California with her husband and continued writing songs and screenplays.

SAMBERG, Arnold (b. April 20, 1899 Toledo, OH; d. May 3, 1936 Alpine, CA – Section 2W, #982) Silent film actor, he was also a stand in for actor Joel McCrea. Samberg acted in films under the name “Arnold Gray.” Married to actress Josefina Ramos, they were both buried the same day. Actor – 40 films: The Line Runners (1920), The Skyrocket (1926), Bird of Paradise (1932), Private Worlds (1935), High Hat (1937).

WAYNE, Steve (Norman Weinberger b. 1920 St. Augustine, FL; d. September 5, 2004 Los Angeles, CA – Garden of Legends) In a career spanning forty years, Wayne appeared in films commercials and television series. He appeared in Alka Seltzer, Ocean Spray, Remington Razors and other commercials. Active in community service, he was honored by the cities of Los Angeles, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills for his contributions. His wife Nancy, who died in 1999, was an actress and casting agent. Actor – 19 films: National Barn Dance (1943), Since You Went Away (1944), Duffy’s Tavern (1945), The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947), The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954).

WRAY, Fay (Vina Fay Wray b. September 15, 1907 Alberta, Canada; d. August 8, 2004 Manhattan, NY – Garden of Legends, southwest corner) Raised in Los Angeles, Fay started working in films as an extra while in her teens but will forever be remembered as Ann Darrow in 1933’s “King Kong.” Married to writers Robert Ruskin and John Monk Saunders, Fay died of natural causes and in tribute to her the lights of the Empire State Building were dimmed for 15 minutes the day following her death. Actress – 96 films: Gasoline Love (1923), The Wedding March (1928), Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933), Melody for Three (1940), Gideon’s Trumpet (1980-TV). Writer - 1 screenplay: This is the Life (1944). Wray also appeared in a number of television shows from 1952 - 1960.
