2001 Summary/Results

9/1

The Raiders started off the season strong by winning the St. Charles East Invitational. Kevin Kuhlman led the way with a 4th place finish, he was closely followed by Eric Mactaggart who finished 6th. A tight pack of Kyle Nugent (17th), Roger Hsieh (18th), and John Mulrow (20th) rounded off the scoring. The Raiders scored 65 points to Geneva's 79. The team's next big meet is the Peoria Invitational on September 15th.

9/15

The Tuesday quad meet with Batavia & Geneva at Fenton was canceled because of the horrible events that took place on the East Coast. The Raiders traveled to the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational which is the same course as the state meet. Micah VanDenend raced in X-C for the 1st time in over a year, and he topped the 337 man field with the fastest time run in the state so far this year- 14:29 (and fastest 3 mile in the nation according to dyestat) His performance also earned him The Chicago Tribune Athlete of the Week. Place winners Kevin Kuhlman (5th), Eric Mactaggart (9th), Kyle Nugent (31st), and John Mulrow (33rd) helped the Raiders win the meet with 77 points to 2nd place Sandburg's 181 points. The team is running very well and looks forward to the DuPage County Meet on September 22nd.

9/22

Missing their #1 and #5 runners from the Notre Dame Invite, the Raiders struggled at the DuPage County Meet. The team ran strong in front led by Eric Mactaggart (2nd) and Kevin Kuhlman (4th). Kyle Nugent, Roger Hsieh, and Mike Aducci rounded out the scoring. The Raiders placed 4th to state ranked Naperville Central, Naperville North, and Wheaton Warrenville South. The team was disappointed by their performance but not discouraged. Next week the Raiders will get a chance to rebound at the Crete Monee Pow-Wow.

9/29

The Crete Monee Pow-Wow scored all seven runners in a flight race. Without VanDenend, the Raiders struggled in some flights but had a decent performance overall. The scoring went flight 1- Kuhlman (8th), flight 2- Mactaggert (5th), flight 3- Hsieh (16th), flight 4- Nugent (5th), flight 5- Mulrow (4th), flight 6- Adduci (25th), and flight 7- Hawkes (26th). The team placed 12th in a field of over 50 teams. Hopefully the Raiders can return to their winning ways next week at the St. Charles Best Invitational.

9/6

The Raiders returned to the St. Charles course for the 2nd time this season, but the outcome was different. Sandburg ran a great race and took the team title over Glenbard South. Eric Mactaggert and Kevin Kuhlman led the way with 4th and 5th place finishes. John Mulrow and Kyle Nugent ran well finishing in the top 10. Hsieh rounded out the scoring but was further back. The team will compete in the loaded SPC red conference meet next weekend.
