The Amate artisans
from Morelos and Guerrero, Mexico are renowned for their delightful
paintings, originally on Amate tree bark. They speak ancient Nahuatl
as their first language. Today this centuries old folk art form is
transformed using pine wood, to create timeless, hand-painted
heirlooms featuring fanciful, detailed scenes of village life,
including rabbits and chickens, pueblos and plantings, fiestas and
harvests.
They are
all different and all original. They are amazingly detailed. They are signed by the artist.
They are finished with a shiny finish on the front.
The sides and back are finished in a redwood tone finish.
The crosses measure
just about 11in. long and a 7 and 1/2 in. wide. The wood is about
1/2 inch thick.
There is a hole on the
back for hanging. A
label on the back provides information similar to what is written
above.
I hand-picked these designs for their composition, detail and
overall artistic merit. They are just beautiful! ~Liz
