The multi-talented Oregon artist Lynn Bean
wanted to adorn an appaloosa horse with
traditional Native symbols of power, spirit and
strength, rendered in different mediums. Using
images of hand-tooled copper foil, leather,
feathers and beads to form lightning bolts on
the neck (signifying speed), and a handprint on
the hindquarters (signifying ownership), she has
given birth to an original vision of beauty and
wonder appropriately titled “Copper
Enchantment.”

It’s a Western tradition for American cowboys to
ride saddles that are decorated with elegant,
delicately carved floral and geometric patterns,
and in some cases embroidered with gold and
silver ornaments. With this in mind, Virginia
artist and craftsman Chad Brady, whose uncle has
been a cobbler for over 30 years making fancy
chaps for rodeo cowboys, keeps the spirit alive
with a Painted Pony he has beautifully tooled
with floral, oak leaf and acorn patterns.

Anasazi Spirit Horse

Artist: Robert Rivera
The intricate black-and-white designs found on
Anasazi pottery at Chaco Canyon, which reflect
the timeless character of ancient cultures, are
the inspiration behind this astounding work of
art. Of French and Spanish descent, Robert has
also added new dimensions to the art of gourd
painting, for which he is respected and
collected worldwide. A versatile artist, his
horizons are constantly expanding, making him
one of the most exciting talents working today.
While this horse is decorated with designs found
on Anasazi pottery that dates back 900 to 1200
years, the fact is the Spanish had not yet
arrived on these shores when the Anasazi culture
flourished. While painting, the artist found
himself thinking about the logs that were hauled
by hand from the timbered mountains hundreds of
miles away to build the structures at Chaco
Canyon, the heart of the Anasazi culture. As he
painted, he toyed with an alternate title:
"Where Were You When We Needed You".
This beautiful purse measures 12 x 10.5 x 5.
The beautiful huge rhinestone studded strap
measures about 21 inches long. The purse is
beautiful leather-like light tan with the
Anasazi Spirit Horse printed on one side. There
is a zipper pocket on the reverse. The
rhinestone studded strap is sewn to the purse
with alligator-like imprinted material with
metal studs. The bottom of the purse consists of
the same alligator-like material. The front is
studded with rhinestones. The inside of the
purse is bucket-type with no dividers. There are
two small open pockets on one side and a
zippered pocket on the other inside side.
The top has a zipper closure. It's a beautiful
purse. Leather-like tags indicate the purse's
authenticity. There is a hanging tag on the
outside and one sewn on the pocket on the
inside. Printed tag tells the story of Anasazi
Spirit Horse.
