We have collected links to sites from around the world that we believe are good resources for information on death and dying, end of life issues and grief counseling information of interest to Social Workers.

AARP Grief and Loss - Sections for the bereaved and for professionals providing grief counseling.

American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine - Conferences, resources and books on end of life care.

American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine - The American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (ABHPM) was formed in 1995 to establish and implement standards for the certification of physicians practicing hospice and palliative medicine. ABHPM creates and administers the certifying examination, works to implement high standards for training, and contributes to setting the standards for excellence in palliative medicine.

American Pain Society - The American Pain Society is a multidisciplinary organization of basic and clinical scientists, practicing clinicians, policy analysts, and others. The mission of the American Pain Society is to advance pain-related research, education, treatment and professional practice.

Center for Ethics in Health Care - Oregon Health and Science University's Center for Ethics is a leader in compassionate care of the dying. Included on their website is the POLST Program and information on Oregon's Death with Dignity Act (Physician-assisted Suicide).

Center to Advance Palliative Care - The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) provides health care professionals with the tools, training, and technical assistance necessary to start and sustain successful palliative care programs in hospitals and other health care settings. Located in New York City, CAPC is a national organization dedicated to increasing the availability of quality palliative care services for people facing life-threatening illness.

Oregon Health Decisions - An independent, nonprofit, grassroots organization. OHD gives people an opportunity to become involved and have a voice in health care policy. OHD also provides materials to assist people in making better-informed decisions regarding their individual health care needs and wishes.

Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment Program (POLST) - The program goal is to effectively communicate the wishes of seriously ill patients to have or to limit medical treatment as they move from one care setting to another. POLST Paradigm forms are now available in many states and may have a different name. They use the term POLST Paradigm to describe these programs in general.
