Runs That Include Walkers:
Bolder Boulder Road Race: Boulder,
CO. - One of the largest races in
the US, the Bolder Boulder includes walk events. In addition to an
estimated 48,000 on the course, more than 100,000 (including citizen
finishers) flow through the stadium to watch the Memorial Day Activities
and the International Team Challenge.
Big Sur International Marathon - Big Sur to Carmel. Run or walk along
scenic Highway One, the nation's first nationally designated Scenic
Highway.
Lake Tahoe Marathon - You
may run, walk, swim, paddle or peddle one or more of the many events
during Lake Tahoe Marathon week. Events are done over a 1-4 day stay at
Lake Tahoe. The marathon is run on Saturday starting on Commons Beach in
Tahoe City and finishes on Pope Beach near South Lake Tahoe. Their newest
event is a 20 mile walk or run from Homewood to the regular finish line at
Pope Beach. All the runs are point to point and scenic from start to
finish.

Race for the Cure -
In 2008, Susan G. Komen for the Cure celebrates the 25th anniversary of
the Komen Race for the CureŽ, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness
walks in the world, with well over 1 million participants since 2005.
Arthritis Walk
The Arthritis WalkSM takes place from coast coast each May,
kicking off National Arthritis Month. Choose from a 5K or 1-mile course.
Men, women and children with arthritis will lead the way wearing special
blue "hero" caps to show that they are taking control of their arthritis.
March of
Dimes - WalkAmerica
You can help save babies from being born too soon by joining the millions
of people across the nation who come together for WalkAmerica each year.
Support the March of Dimes fight against prematurity, and take steps to
save these tiny babies. Walks are held across the US each Spring.
Avon
Walks for Breast Cancer
One weekend, a world of good. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer has been
designed to allow people of all fitness levels to have a safe, challenging
and rewarding experience. The Avon Walks will begin and end at the same
location, which will be convenient to the city center with plenty of
parking and/or good access to public transportation. After a rousing and
emotional send-off, you and your fellow Walkers will hit the trail. Held
in cities across the US.
Major Walks:
Portland to Coast Walk Relay -
The Portland to Coast Walk is a sister event to the Fred Meyer Hood to
Coast Relay (HTC). Portland to Coast Walk starts in Portland travels 127
miles the same course as the HTC (see Course Map) except for the first
two legs. The WALK START is located in the park under the east end of
the Hawthorne Bridge across the river from downtown Portland. SE Main
dead ends at the park.
Vancouver, WA, Discovery Walk
Festival
Held annually in April, this premier walking event is located in
Vancouver, USA, right across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon.
US Freedom Walk -
An annual October event in Washington, DC.
The Great Lake Walk-
Lake Cowichan, BC is the setting for this challenge. Taking a page from
the Great Walk, the Valley is set to step into its own version of the
ultramarathon walking event.
The Great Walk -
Earn the "Burning Boot Award" walking "North America's toughest
pledge walk." The event takes takes you along 63.5 Km of trail from Gold
River to Tahsis, on Vancouver Island, BC. (we understand they are taking
a break and will not have an event in 2006.)
Willamette Valley Relay - Held in the beautiful Willamette Valley of
Oregon, this July event provides opportunities for teams of walkers.
You'll pass through stunning scenery, discover historical landmarks, and
connect with local communities. Experienced walkers will encounter a
challenging new race opportunity. Social walkers can get together with
friends and family to discover the bountiful Willamette Valley. To
participate, you'll join a team of walkers, rent a van, and walk the
course in relays.
