A few notes from the NHRC September 16, 2000 meeting
Treasurer reported that club finances are in fine shape. A notice was sent out regarding the temporary moratorium on launches at JSC. Several new members have joined in the past month.
The highs and lows of the Ballunar festival were discussed. Winners of the "Guess the Altitude" contest were announced, and thanks were again given to the 38 members that attended and helped out in one way or the other. David Bacque gave a complete report on the Hazard Analasys and Safety report that he has been working on. The hazard analysis looks like it will become important reading for any rocketeers looking to improve the safety and reliability of their rockets. Look for a complete report soon.
Discussions were also held regarding the new Bob Supak Dedicated Contest Equipment. Bob has donated this equipment to the club and will be stored in the Clear Lake area by team effort. Rob Ellis in particular has volunteered to store the bulk of it. Bob wishes that it be known that this equipment be made available to any member that wishes to use it for educational launches or other demonstrations. See a complete report with photos on tha available equipment here.
Publishing the club newsletter electronically was discussed. Some advantages are that members could print their own copy in color and in better resolution than the copies we now use. This would also save the club about 85 cents per copy. Since there are probably members that would not be able to recieve, or not print out a copy, the electronic version would be optional, at least for awhile.
Contest director Andy Eng encouraged members to come out and fly or help out with the upcoming Gulf Coast Regional Contest. Rocketeers from all over Texas and Lousianna have already registratered for the contest.
Club President Tom Lanier was not present due to new commitments, but called in by cell phone to make it known that he will no longer be able to represent the club as president. David Bacque stepped up and volunteered (?) to take the position for the rest of this year and next. A special vote for this may be held at the October meeting, or deferred to the regular elections in November. All members that wish to become more involved with the club and earn the much coveted recognition that comes with that are encouraged to run for office. All positions are up for grabs.
An Estes Skywinder was given away as a door prize.
Overall and excellent meeting with about 20 members in attendance.
