Spare in down position.        Spare in up position.

I tried to get creative in making my spare tire carrier.  It becomes a big dilemma when you have lockers and oversize tires.  You need a full size spare, and it will not fit between the frame.  I also needed to keep my truck bed useable.  By the time you include the tool box and a 33" tire, you have used up 3/4 of the bed space.  I made this mount to lay down for good visibility in the rear view, and to achieve the pre-runner look.  I also wanted to be able to upright the tire to gain back that bed space.  The back of the tire rack mounts to the rear bumper.  The front mounts in one place in the middle of the bed.  All mounts have poly-urethane bushings to eliminate rattles and to allow it to flex since it is mounted to both the body and the frame.  When the tire is in the upright position, there is another support bar that keeps the tie to the center of the bed.  I also mounted the tool box so that it will easily lift out so that I can have the complete bed free in moments if I wish. I also came up with a custom locking cap to place over the screw threads.  This has confused a lot of people, and I intend to keep it that way.
