Sometimes I feel like I belong ---- in a Mary Poppins sequence because of the sometimes daily changes in what I am doing. In addition to the many personal (unpaid) things I like to do, I have a series of business ventures I enjoy. Yes - I do enjoy what I do and enjoy the relative freedom to choose the days and hours I work!

I have enjoyed working with a winery assisting in producing great wines. Unfortunately it just closed due to the owners retiring at the age of 70. Many days I am in the vineyard taking care of vines so they will become that wine. This work is at Butler’s Vineyard in Nazareth, Pennsylvania where I work as vineyard manager as an independent contractor. I enjoy being outside, having the serene view and sounds of the vineyard while hawks circle on updrafts overhead. I may be pruning the vines, on a tractor cultivating, mowing, or transporting a ton of just picked grapes to the truck or winery. Other days I am sitting in front of a computer designing web sites, repairing or even building a new computer. This is entirely my own business too. Web design integrates well with other work such as the vineyard and winery, enabling me to exercise my creative talents and design sites for other wineries and be become even more knowledgeable about the business. The business name for this venture is Astral Web Visions and the URL is http://www.astralvisions.com The business name began one night when I was considering names for the new web design business I was about to start. I was outside on a clear night and was looking up at all the stars. As I sat there contemplating, my thoughts wandered (as they often do) into the vastness and complexity of the universe. Astral Visions began that night! |
Most of my life was spent working in electronics design. Although the availability of such work in this region is now limited and appears to be dwindling even more as the economy struggles, I still do some engineering contract work each year under the business name of Electronic Engineering Solutions. As a result of all these endeavors, I am found wearing a straw hat in the vineyard, dress clothes for engineering when on site, and casual clothes in my office. For the future I would love to have one business. This is not one of the above although it is closely related to the first. I’d like to start a vineyard and winery of my own. Pennsylvania is a terrific state for a vineyard and is becoming well known a a wine region through the help of the Department of Agriculture, The Pennsylvania Association of Wine Growers (PAW), the Pennsylvania Wine Association (PWA) the many wineries in the state, and the many Wine Trails. |
