G1 Beasts FAQ v 0.1 Well, a recent discussion got me interested in investigating Beast transformers in G1, so I looked at some of the old Catalogs, along with Cybertronian issues #4 and #5, and made up a list of G1 TFs that have at least one Beast mode. Note that this list covers only US G1. In chronological order (by catalog year): 1984 Autobots None Decepticons: Cassette - Ravage (Jaguar) Cassette - Lazerbeak (Falcon) Cassette - Buzzsaw (Falcon) 1985 Autobots: Dinobot - Sludge Dinobot - Swoop Dinobot - Grimlock Dinobot - Snarl Dinobot - Slag Decepticons: Insecticon - Kickback Insecticon - Bombshell Insecticon - Shrapnel Deluxe Insecticon - Barrage Deluxe Insecticon - Chopshop Deluxe Insecticon - Ransack Deluxe Insecticon - Venom 1986 Autobots: Cassette - Steeljaw (Lion) Cassette - Ramhorn (Rhino) Skylynx Decepticons: Predacon - Razorclaw Predacon - Rampage Predacon - Divebomb Predacon - Tantrum Predacon - Headstrong Sharkticon Trypticon Cassette - Ratbat 1987 Autobots: Monsterbot - Repugnus Monsterbot - Grotusque Monsterbot - Doublecross Decepticons: Sixshot has one beast mode Terrorcon - Rippersnapper Terrorcon - Blot Terrorcon - Sinnertwin Terrorcon - Cutthroat Terrorcon - Hun-Gurr Clone - Pounce Clone - Wingspan Headmaster - Skullcruncher Headmaster - Mindwipe Headmaster - Weirdwolf Cassette - Slugfest (Dinosaur, Stegasaurus) Headmaster Horrorcons - Apeface, one beast mode Headmaster Horrorcons - Snapdragon, one beast mode Scorponok 1988 Autobots: Quickswitch, one beast mode Pretender Beast - Chainclaw Pretender Beast - Catilla Decepticons: Headmaster - Fangry Headmaster - Squeezeplay Headmaster - Horri-bull Seacon - Overbite Seacon - Nautilator Seacon - Skalor Seacon - Tentakil Seacon - Seawing Seacon - Snaptrap Firecon - Cindersaur Firecon - Sparkstalker Firecon - Flamefeather Cassette - Beastbox (Gorilla) Cassette - Squawktalk (Falcon) Cassette - Overkill (T-Rex) Pretender Beast - Carnivac Pretender Beast - Snarler Doubledealer, one beast mode, and comes with Skar, a Bat. 1989 Autobots: Pretender - Pincher (Scorpion) Classic Pretenders - Grimlock (Dinosaur) Decepticons: Pretender - Octopunch (Crab) Pretender - Stranglehold (Rhino) Pretender Monster - Icepick Pretender Monster - Bristleback Pretender Monster - Wildfly Pretender Monster - Scowl Pretender Monster - Slog Pretender Monster - Birdbrain 1990: Autobots: Actionmaster - Skyfall comes with Top-Heavy, a Rhino. Actionmaster - Snarl comes with Tyrannitron, a Dinosaur. Actionmaster - Jackpot comes with Sights, an Eagle. Actionmaster - Raid comes with Lionizer, a Lion. Decepticons: Actionmaster - Devastator comes with Scorpulator, a Scorpion. Actionmaster - Krok comes with Gatoraidor, an Alligator. Actionmaster - Banzai-Tron comes with Razorshard, a Crab. Actionmaster - Gunslinger comes with Catgut, a Cat. Actionmaster - Soundwave comes with Wingthing, a Bat-Like Monster. The following pretenders have humanoid shells. Humans and humanoids are a sort of beast, I guess. The robots don't actually turn into beasts, they just hide in them, so I seperated them out here. 1988 Autobots: Pretender - Landmine Pretender - Waverider Pretender - Cloudburst Pretender - Sky High Pretender - Groundbreaker Pretender - Splashdown Decepticons: Pretender - Skullgrin Pretender - Iguanus Pretender - Submarauder Pretender - Finback Pretender - Bomb-Burst Pretender - Bugly 1989 Autobots: Pretender - Doubleheader Pretender - Longtooth Mega Pretender - Crossblades Mega Pretender - Vroom Classic Pretender - Bumblebee Classic Pretender - Jazz Decepticons: Pretender - Bludgeon Mega Pretender - Thunderwing Classic Pretender - Starscream Unusual facts: Decepticon beasts far outnumber Autobot beasts. Doubledealer's Powermaster Nebulon, Skar, is the only Nebulon with no humanoid mode. The Mega and Ultra Pretenders had organic, humanoid shells that could transform. Fangry has obviously organic details (hair/fur/muscle), unusual (perhaps unique) for a non-Pretender G1 Transformer. A few G1 TFs have no humanoid form whatsoever. I count the cassettes, Sky Lynx, Doubledealer's Powermaster partner, and some of the Actionmaster partners. All of these, except for Sky Lynx and Trypticon, could be seen as the 'pets' of other Transformers. Thanks to Kokampf for corrections and to Doug Dlin & Harold Tietjens for Cybertronian, which was used as a reference.
