The first Crutchfield to come to Jones County was Stapleton Crutchfield, the son of Henry Crutchfield of North Carolina. He and his wife, Martha, came to Jones County around 1813 with their son Benjamin and their daughter Elizabeth. After settling in Jones County and beginning to farm the land, Martha gave birth to another son, Parsons.
Elizabeth Crutchfield married Booker Leroy Russell, the son of Henry Trent Russell, on November 11, 1828.
