Founder and Executive Director
of Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue (PPR), Roberta Weisensee, spent 7 years as a
volunteer at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. Those 7 years were spent
working in the education department studying and working with many
different birds but her passion was for the parrots.
She saw a need for a safe
haven for parrots that could no longer be kept by their owners.
Additionally there was a great need for education on caring for pet birds
in the Pittsburgh area. In 1998 she formed the Pittsburgh Chapter of
Parrot Education & Adoption Center and was the Managing
Director/President until June 2001 when she went on to form the Pittsburgh
Parrot Rescue.
Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue's
dream is to have an education center open to the public on a daily
basis where people can come in at their convenience and learn about
parrots and also meet the many birds that are looking for new homes.
