CELEBRITY  (1998)  **1/2

Reviewed 12/4/98

Woody Allen's beautiful-looking black and white film about how you can judge a society by whom it chooses to celebrate has good ideas but muddled execution, especially since how Judy Davis's character achieves happiness amounts pretty much to her sleeping with Joe Mantegna. What all the other characters see in Kenneth Branagh's self-centeredness and Judy Davis' neuroses is never clarified, but Charlize Theron and Leonardo DeCaprio shine.
