H Story  (2001)  *1/2

The story concerns a cast and crew attempt to remake the great HIROSHIMA, MON AMOUR, but they fall to the pressure.  Forget Resnais, this is director Nobuhiro Suwa’s failed attempt at Antonioni.  With sound that comes in several seconds after a scene starts, tedious long takes where almost nothing happens, and jump cuts, this looks like a film student’s attempt at profundity.  The movie only comes alive when it’s on the streets of Japan with all of its urban energy.  Nice cinematography, but Beatrice Dalle, looking more like a female Mick Jagger with each passing year, doesn’t add to the beauty.
