STAR TREK: INSURRECTION (1998) **1/2
Reviewed 12/12/98
Star Trek: Insurrection is hokey, sentimental, and has just tolerable special
effects, but I found its relentless idealism infectious enough to be disarming. After all,
there's something about the gall of having characters who don't hesitate a second to throw
away their careers to do the right thing. That and the movie didn't really take itself
seriously. It was almost a comedy. The worst thing is that Jonathan Frakes is incessantly
annoying both as actor and director. The series needs a director who can actually put
together a suspenseful sequence. After several ample opportunities to kiss the love
interest, Captain Picard never gets around to it, once and for all proving, he's certainly
not Kirk.
